Sunscreen - Zoey Jurss - Charcoal Burners - The Prime - Ben Evolent

Image
Sunscreen have just released their new single 'High Over Love'. The bands alt rock style is uncluttered, each instrument has it's space, with the vocals adding further melodic vibes on this pleasing song. With influences such as First Aid Kit and Gillian Welch one things for certain, Zoey Jurss has very good musical taste, and what's more, her latest song 'Love, Love, Love' indicates she is pretty talented in her own right. Charcoal Burners album 'The Best Day You Could Imagine' came out in April, however the New Zealand band have only just hit our radar, and their distinctive and hard to categorise rock is well worthy of a mention and a share. The Prime have recently released their new E.P. 'Eternal Sky' and these accomplished rockers know their stuff, having originally formed in 2010, they got back together last year and the new material is top level natural rock! We are back down under for Ben Evolent and his latest entitled 'S...

Ana Egge - Bronston - The Dead South - Box Of Moxie

Image
Ana Egge has just released the video for 'Cocaine Cowboys', it's her second feature on Beehive Candy the last being in April 2018 when we remarked on her "melodic and gorgeous vocals". Well that remains the same and the inclusion of Iris DeMent on harmonies this time, really is something special! Scottish alt-rock four piece Bronston have released 'Burnt Snakes' a potent bluesy rocker with perfectly matched vocals and a tight and feisty band adding plenty more. The Dead South are already well know to many and rather popular to say the least, however 'Diamond Ring' is just such a fabulous song from the Canadian Bluegrass band, it just has to be included. In February we first featured Box of Moxie with the track 'Submission Admission' and he is more than welcome back with the new song 'Bounty From The Seas' as the genre wanderer continues to release more fabulous material. ----------------------------------------------------...

Liam Duncan - Janice Prix - Those Who Ride With Giants

Image
Liam Duncan has released his new album 'If I Don't Feel Better' from which we have chosen 'Broken Hearted' to share. The theme for the album is based around a relationship ending, in this case Liam's personal experience, and what is impressive is the maturity regarding this, it's not a "poor me" outpouring of angst, rather an honest appraisal of a sensitive subject. 'Glitch' from Janice Prix might be based on a heavy and hardly uplifting subject, yet is a superb alt rocker, one that takes a challenging story line and turns it into something of an anthem, perhaps this is another definition for the term - juxtaposition.  Those Who Ride With Giants (aka MJ Callaghan) has just released 'The Walk of Thunder' an atmospheric alt rock instrumental that genuinely sounds like a full band performing, so much so that a genuine live ensemble is being assembled to take this music on tour. ---------------------------------------------------...

The Black Watch - The Riptide Movement

Image
The Black Watch have just released 'Mad' ahead of John Andrew Fredrick releasing his 17th full-length album 'Magic Johnson' as lead song-smith of the black watch. With a quick tempo and slick rock delivery, it's notable just how the fresh the piece feels, considering how much music has preceded the song.  Dublin's The Riptide Movement have just announced a London show at The Islington on Friday 4th October hot on the heels of their recent new song release 'I'll Be There'. The song is a vibrant indie rocker that's rather catchy to put it mildly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Black Watch - Magic Johnson. An avowed Anglophile, author, English professor and irrepressible Los Angeles based songwriter John Andrew Fredrick is about to release his 17th full-length as lead songsmith of the black watch. 'Magic Johnson' is released in the UK th...

Youth Sector - Mathilde Fernandez - Winona Oak - Junaco

Image
Youth Sector have just released 'Renting Spaces In My World' a crisp post punk song where the vocals have plenty of eighties new wave influence, the music is rhythmic & vibrant and when you put it all together, the whole is hook fueled and potent. Mathilde Fernandez has just shared her latest single 'Chanteuse De Guerre' along with a suitably matched and impressive video, whether you understand the lyrics, or not, this is just to hard to resist. We have two versions of  'He Don't Love Me' the new 'Stripped' version, along with a live video piece. Winona Oak is of course the artist and both versions are gorgeous, intimate and full of feeling. Finally today we have Junaco and a song titled 'In Between' a gentle, tender and melodic piece where the vocals shine and the acoustic backdrop is just right. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Youth Sec...

Little Church - Shiny Glide - Manwomanchild

Image
We have the latest E.P from Little Church titled 'It's Not You' streaming in full below, it comprises of five songs opening with 'Last Night' a gorgeous track that typifies the bands music where various genres merge into a distinctive and refined band sound. Shiny Glide (aka Antony Venneri) shares 'Innocent Moon' a beautiful, sweeping and natural ballad, accompanied by a fabulous video collage of old film and cartoon clips, that somehow add to the tenderness of this song. It's been some time since Manwomanchild appeared here, that said 'Bellwether' is a welcome return, the lyrics are clever and the video suitably works alongside, the song is catchy, personal and very pleasing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Little Church - It's Not You (E.P). On their latest release Its Not You, Little Church seamlessly merges rock, soul, layered psychedeli...

Annabel Allum - UV - Kyle Craft & Showboat Honey - We Are Strangers

Image
It's our fifth feature for Annabel Allum in just over a year and we don't mind! The Guildford (UK) artist continues to deliver impressive and driven songs packed full of hooks, the more the merrier as far as I am concerned. UV 's vocals are striking and emotive whilst the ambient musical backdrop gives them even more exposure on 'Wilt' a powerful and intriguing song. Kyle Craft & Showboat Honey have just shared 'Deathwish Blue' along with a video, it's a dreamy, atmospheric and pleasing power ballad and it's hard to resist a second play. Finally we have seven songs to enjoy on We Are Strangers new E.P. It's hard to categorise the music and yet it also has the conundrum of a timeless feel on some of the songs, whatever, give it a listen this is very good music. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Annabel Allum - When The Wind Stopped. It’s beco...

Eli Raybon - The School Book Depository - Far Caspian

Image
Eli Raybon first appeared with us back in March when we commented on his "sci-fi weirdo auteur" description, however as 'Primitive Man' demonstrates he is also a really fine songwriter and performer. His sci-fi concept album, Supertoys, is due out July 12th, and it's packed with some superb material, it's well worth checking out when you get the chance. We featured The School Book Depository a couple of times back in 2017 and now we have the new song 'The Trail', where once again the vocals of Fredrik Solfors are so engaging as is the whole atmospheric smooth rock vibe running through this piece. Having already featured 'Astoria' and 'A Dream Of You' from Far Caspian' s brand new E.P. 'The Heights' it's good to be able to include the full collection from this excellent Leeds (UK) trio, in fact this makes it appearance number six on Beehive Candy, clearly they are doing something we really like, how about you? ------...

Brother Son - Toby Johnson - Winter Wilson with Fairport Convention - Caracol

Image
Brother Son have a rather distinct brand of Indie Rock partly garnered by their musical influences, however nothing can take away how they have developed some superb songs, where as mentioned in their press release, blues, soul and even jazz styles manifest themselves. As for the new album 'Goodies' I have to say, this is a very fine collection of music (streaming in full below). From Toby Johnson we have 'Isla' the first of four songs from his forthcoming E.P. It's a fine modern folk song, the musical backdrop is restrained, the vocals just right for the genre, and the overall production exudes quality. If you dig further back in time on Beehive Candy you will see plenty of evidence for our love of live music and also Sandy Denny. Early in 2018 we featured Winter Wilson a couple of times, and their return with a live album full of original songs from the pair, along with a gorgeous cover version of Sandy Denny's 'It'll Take a Long Time' (perfo...
