Fleetwood Mac - Tour Rehearsal 1979

Image
This is part of a series of tour rehearsals undertaken by Fleetwood Mac over three days on a sound stage in Los Angeles. The rehearsals took place from the 18th to 20th October 1979, and there was an audience in attendance for the 'warm up' performance made up of friends and family. The rehearsals were filmed using a single camera video shot except on the 19th October where multi camera material exists. DVD boots of the rehearsals are in circulation, the sound quality on some is not to good and picture quality even worse. This is audio only from one of the sessions and is a whole lot better quality. 2010FM - February Magazine Two

Image
We start our second new music round up with SAADI whose promotional biography tell us & I quote ' As precious stone is extracted fr om its natural environment to be cut and polished, revealing its infinite multi-colored reflections, SAADI derives elements of musical influence and transforms them into pop gems rich in melody and reflecting an almost schizophrenic obsession with music. SAADI, the musical pseudonym of the radiant Boshra al Saadi, is an eclectic and transcendental artist with a unique ability to create harmonious tunes tiled from fragmentation's of both empathetic influence and detached curiosity. Drawing early influence from sources as diverse as Bob Dylan, classic 80's synth pop, traditional Arabic music, punk rock, Nigerian music and Brian Eno, SAA DI assembles her musical creation to form what is fundamentally her own. This collision of pop-smarts, exotic influences and fearless eclecticism spawns music which sounds both sophisticated and delightfully ...

XTC - Live In Belgium 1982.

Image
This is a show from the final XTC tour (this concert was broadcast on FM radio), from a gig at L'Ancienne Belgique, Brussels, Belgium, back on the 7th March 1982. The last major hit of XTC's touring phase was "Senses Working Overtime," the first single from their double album English Settlement and a top 10 hit in 1982. At the peak of their popularity, the band embarked on a major tour, but Andy Partridge suffered a mental breakdown on stage during one of the first concerts of the tour in Paris on March 18th, 1982. The European and British dates were cancelled and after completing only one show in San Diego the whole US leg was also abandoned. Source: FM Broadcast. Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@320kbps. Bad Company - Electric Ladyland 1992

Image
In 1986 Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke decided to re team for a new project. Their label, Atlantic Records , however, insisted they resume the Bad Company name. But Paul Rodgers was already engaged with a new super group called The Firm. So the remaining two members hired ex-Ted Nugent vocalist Brian Howe as the new lead singer, Steven Price as the new bass player and Greg Dechert (ex-Uriah Heep) on keyboards. Brian Howe's vocal style brought more of a pop-rock sound to the band, as opposed to Paul Rodgers' more bluesy style. Over a six -year span from 1986 to 1992, this version of the band released four albums including Fame and Fortune, Dangerous Age, the platinum selling Holy Water and Here Comes Trouble. The final studio album of the Brian Howe era, 1992's Here Comes Trouble , featured the Top 40 hit 'How About That', and 'This Could Be The One' (number 87). The album went Gold but the formula was growing stale. Before touring in support of Here Come...

2010FM - February Magazine One

I was not sure quite what to make of Peasant (Damien DeRose) when I was first sent a song of his last year, for whatever reason something was missing for me, and however much this site is about supporting new artists and music, liking what you hear has to be a key part of any endorsement. OK so you have guessed what happened next, but I will state it anyway, was I surprised and delighted when I received a copy of his forthcoming album! His record companies promo actually states "While the last album gave many people their first taste of Peasant, in the eyes of the moniker’s human form, Damien DeRose, this was a mere appetizer to what would soon come to fruition". So that's what happened, it turns out I was not to keen on the appetizer, but I have to say the second course 'Shady Retreat' is absolutely delightful. Listen: 'Well Alright' Website: MySpace . Buy (pre-order): Paper Garden Records . Shady Retreat is available via Paper Garden Records on March ...

John Hiatt - Take Root Festival 2008.

Image
This is John Hiatt performing a solo acoustic set at the Take Root Festival in Oosterpoort, Groningen, Holland back on the 4th October 2008. The material is a mixture of songs from across the years, along with a few from his current album of the time 'Same Old Man'. Some artists have the ability to grab my attention from the first chord and in this case the power, passion, energy and full sound just adds to the occasion. The radio host mentioned that John was flown in especially for this gig, having performed in North America throughout the summer promoting the album. He has also worked alongside Lyle Lovett on a number of occasions since 2008 and is currently touring Europe performing undertaking both solo and joint gigs with Lyle. Source: FM Broadcast Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@192kbps. Genre: Rock, country, blues. Set: Full Set. Foo Fighters - Reading Festival 2002.

Image
The Foo Fighters are another one of those bands that have been around for a lot longer than it seems (for me anyway). Formed in 1995 by Dave Grohl originally as a one-man project after the dissolution of his previous band, Nirvana the Foo Fighters have of course gone on to stadium filling, Grammy award winning super group status. What would have been if Dave Grohl had accepted a permanent position as the drummer in Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers back in 1994 (he very nearly did). This is The Foo Fighters live at the Reading Festival (England) back on the 24th August 2002, and the recording comes with an additional four songs performed by the band on BBC TV's 'Later With Jools Holland' from November 2002. Source: FM & TV Broadcast. Sound Quality: Very good stereo (Nero Music Files). Genre: Alternative rock, post-grunge, hard rock. Set: Full Set. Set List: Reading Festival: 1. All My Life 2. Breakout 3. This Is A Call 4. Learn To Fly 5. Disenchanted Lullaby 6. Times...

Andrew Bird - With Bowl Of Fire Live 1998

Image
I have to admit I was about ten years late in 'discovering' Andrew Bird . It was only a couple of years ago that I first gave his music a listen and I have been kicking myself ever since (OK not literally), however the back catalogue has been fun to say the least. Back in the late 90's the music was quite different to today's indie rock and folk direction, with an element of old time swing and harmonies. Taking on the role of bandleader, Andrew Bird released Thrills on Rykodisc in 1997 with his group Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, shortly followed by second album Oh! The Grandeur in 1998. Both albums were heavily influenced by traditional folk, pre-war jazz, and swing , with Andrew Bird relying on the violin as his primary musical instrument, as well as providing vocals along with his trademark verbose lyrics. The Bowl of Fire featured musicians from Andrew Bird's home town of Chicago, including Kevin O'Donnell, Nora O'Connor, Andy Hopkins , Jimmy Sut...

Sam and Dave - Sweden 1967.

Image
This is a wonderful four song set from 'Soul Men' Sam and Dave . Although this is hardly an exclusive to Beehive Candy it is a must have for any soul music fan and worthy of a share. The audio quality is incredible considering the age of the recording. The following from wikipedia puts the whole show in context: S am & Dave's live act earned them the nickname "Double Dynamite". Phil Walden, Otis Redding's manager, said "I think Sam and Dave will probably stand the test of time as being the best live act that there ever was. Those guys were absolutely unbelievable. Every night they were awesome." An October 1968 Time article reads: "Of all the R & B cats, nobody steams up a place like Sam & Dave ... weaving and dancing (while singing!), they gyrate through enough acrobatics to wear out more than 100 costumes per year." Jerri Hershey described in Nowhere to Run: They carried red suits, white suits, three piece lime green suits, a...

Renaissance - Live In Cincinnati 1970.

Image
This is the original line up of Renaissance live in concert at Ludlow Garage, Cincinnati, USA, on the 25th February 1970. The band were formed in January 1969 by former Yardbirds members Keith Relf and Jim McCarty . In February 1970, they embarked on a North American tour, but this month-long trek proved a mitigated success, as because of their Yardbirds credentials they found themselves paired with bands like The Kinks and their new classically-oriented direction didn't always go down well with audiences. Line up changes started not long after this tour and eventually left only Jane Relf and John Hawken from the original line up. There are however some strong musical parallels that can be heard in this set that clearly continued to develop within the second incarnation of the band that would see Annie Haslam take over on vocals by 1971. Source: Soundboard Sound Quality: Highly listenable (some tape hiss and low audio levels) mp3@160kbps Genre: Progressive rock, folk rock. Set:...

2010FM - January Magazine Three

Image
We start off our third round up of new and nearly new music for January with the superb Swedish indie band Sambassadeur . With two albums behind them, the indie pop artists have transformed their sound with the third album European (Due out Feb 23rd on Labrador Records). Receiving a considerable amount of praise in the past through their 'DIY' approach, Sambassadeur are able to express further growth on their latest release. With the help of producer Mattias Glavå, European maintains the bands personal style, with the addition of a classic and orchestrated sound. OK regulars to Beehive Candy know our of love for the Swedish music scene and in our opinion these folk are another fine example of why we get rather carried away as soon as you mention Sweden & music in the same breath. Listen: 'Stranded' Website : MySpace Buy: Pre order a signed copy of European Previous material (mp3's) Sambassadeur Since forming in 2003, Sambassadeur was one of the home recording...

Steve Winwood - Cleveland, Ohio 1987.

Image
This is Steve Winwood during his first 'High Life' solo American tour. The concert was recorded by Westwood One (for the Superstars series) and has circulated as a bootleg, both as a double vinyl album and silver disc CD. It is also sometimes available in slightly more legitimate forms as a Westwood One radio disc through dealers of radio shows who advertise in collector's magazines. This is the most complete version of the concert I have been able to obtain and runs as a 45 minute single track. Although it has been circulated as recorded in 1986 it is in fact from a concert at the Blossom Music Center, Cleveland, Ohio, USA in 1987. Audio quality is extremely good. Source: FM Broadcast Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@320kbps. Genre: Rock, blues rock. Set: Broadcast element of concert. Set List: 1. Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys-Glad 2. Freedom Rider 3. While You See A Chance 4. Valerie 5. Band Intros-I’m A Man 6. Higher Love 7. Gimme Some Lovin' Links: Official...

2010FM - January Magazine Two

Image
Parisian band Caravan Palace made their live debut in the United States on January 10th with a performance at globalFEST 2010. Although I failed to mention this prior to the event I did want to bring this intriguing band to your attention. I like to discover different and maybe quirky musical styles and there is something about this act that I really enjoy. Another act to keep an eye (and ears) out for this year... Comprised of Charles Delaporte (bass, programming), Arnaud Vial (guitar, programming), Hugues Payen (violin, programming), Colotis Zoé (vocals), Toustou (electronics, trombone), and Chapi (clarinet), Caravan Palace is chiefly influenced by Django Reinhardt but also cites Vitalic, Cab Calloway, Justice, Lionel Hampton and Daft Punk as influences. They made their debut on the French independent label Wagram Music and promoted the release with the single "Jolie Coquine.” After a year of intense touring of clubs, theatres and festivals in support of it they reached as high...

Boomtown Rats - North London 1978

Image
This is the Boomtown Rats live in concert at the Middlesex Polytechnic in Hendon, North London, back on the 16th September 1978. This recorded version has been circulated as 'Dont Believe What You Hear' and is reckoned to be the best audio quality boot of the show, however it unfortunelty misses the last song of the gig (Do The Rat). BBC TV recorded the concert, and from distant memory I think it was shown 'live', I remember watching it, and from Bob Geldof's comments it would appear to be the case. The sheer energy and the incredibily professional performance from a 'band of the time' bring back great memories. Source: BBC TV Broadcast (audio). Sound Quality: Very good stereo mp3@320kbps. Genre: Rock, pop, New Wave. Set: Broadcast element of concert. Set List: 1. Mary Of The 4th Form 2. Me & Howard Hughes 3. I Never Loved Eva Braun 4. Don't Believe What You Read 5. Rat Trap 6. Kicks 7. Joey's On The Street Again 8. Living On A Island 9. She...

Genesis - A Trick Of The Outtakes 1975

Image
This set of Genesis outtakes have been given some very real care and attention by the 'Progressive Rock Remasters Project', and rather than duplicate effort I have taken the release notes to provide the background details. On a personal note I have always felt that the era after Peter Gabriel left the band was as creative and inspiring with the albums from 'A trick Of The Tail' through to 'Duke' remaining firm favorites of mine, although if I was pushed for my all time favorites I guess 'Foxtrot' and 'Selling England By The Pound' would be two of the 'top three' along with the album these outtakes are associated with. From the release notes: The Sheffield brothers built Trident studios at No. 17 St. Anne’s Ct. Soho in 1967. This studio was the recording site for many rock albums of the 1960’s and 70’s including David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and many tracks from the Beatle’s White Album. The Genesis sessions captured on this CD were re...
