Someone has shared 'I Can't Remember How To Talk To You' a smooth and hook fuelled pysch pop track. Allman Brown's 'Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles' is a gentle folk song that gradually morphs into something much more powerful. 'Full Time' from Field Guide is one of those personal songs that quickly becomes quite infectious and heading for a second listen. If you need a fix of feel good music and a bit of a lift Winter has it covered with the charming 'Bonsai'. Adámas blend genres like it's second nature to them, the result is splendid as 'Change It' ably demonstrates. From Denmark we have Rainbrother and their new album 'Island' from which we feature 'Honeybird' a song that suggests the album is well worth checking out. KEØMA sparkle with 'Lovers' a vibrant and danceable tune that is more than just a little catchy. Saltwater Sun have shared 'The Great Deceiver' the title track from today's E.P release as the band continue to impress in a big way!
Someone - I Can't Remember How To Talk To You.
Multi-disciplinary Amsterdam artist Someone, AKA Tessa Rose Jackson, releases her new single I Can’t Remember How To Talk To You via [PIAS] Recordings. A grooving twin-paced slice of infectious psych-pop, equally indebted to Tame Impala, Arthur Russell or early 90s French electronica pioneers Air, it is the final single taken ahead of her upcoming new EP Orbit, out 1st May.
The EP uses the metaphor of orbiting planets to comment on our overstimulated generation. It suggests that in spending so much time on our phones and social media, being constantly exposed to external distractions, we are ’orbiting’ around each other and our passions, rarely actually touching, resting, focusing long enough to truly connect.
The single in question also has a more personal, relatable meaning: “It’s the story of somebody meeting their ex at a party in a wobbly, punch-fuelled moment. In the verses, she’s all cool, kind of a lilting ‘Yeah, I’m doing great, I rock at life’, but in the pre-chorus little cracks start to appear. Suddenly, this hysterical chorus comes crashing in, and she’s ended up on top of the table, mascara streaming down her cheeks… as it turns out: Actually no, she’s not fine. And yes, that escalated quickly.”
Whilst the artistic undertaking around her debut EP Chain Reaction (creating a short film for each track on the record) was already ambitious, yet delivered flawlessly via Someone’s creative drive, the project around Orbit is again nudged up a level. Tessa wants to explore the intensity with which art and music can be fused, in a way that they enhance each other fully. Hence she has created an interactive Augmented Reality exhibition that combines Someone’s psychedelic music with cutting edge technology and hypnotic art.

Allman Brown - Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles.
Since making his mark on the illustrious singer-songwriter scene with his breath-taking debut album ‘1000 Years’ in 2017, Hong Kong-born but London-based frontman Allman Brown looks to continue his ascension with his latest single ‘Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles’, lifted from his forthcoming sophomore full-length ‘Darling, It’ll Be Alright’.
Taking cues from other uplifting artists such as Bon Iver and The National, ‘Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles’ sits as a wonderfully serene yet progressive return for the frontman. Starting with a smooth and humble elegance that showcases his talent for captivating songwriting, the release slowly builds and builds into an explosive crescendo of epic and anthemic power.
Taken from his upcoming new album, ‘Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles’ looks to capitalise on the success of his previous releases such as his ‘Sweetest Thing’, a track that amassed more than 40m Spotify streams worldwide, leading to over a million listeners every month, and bringing his unique talent to the world stage over night.
Produced and recorded with long time collaborator Ian Barter (Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith) in January 2019 at his Reading-based home studio, the singer has taken the emphasis of his first record and built upon it with sheer gusto and aplomb. This new single acts as the gateway into his forthcoming LP, giving listeners a taste of what to expect and see how he has evolved as a songwriter since we last heard his voice.
Speaking about his new single, Allman Brown added, “Lonely Hearts, Los Angeles is about the distinct feeling of being alone in one of the most singular cities in the world, the sensation of all that grime, glamour and heartache that’s in the air. It’s also inspired by the weird and constant sonic disruption of my tinnitus; it’s a small effort to fight back against it. The song is an ode to everyone in LA struggling against the current to achieve their dreams.”

Field Guide - Full Time.
In my opinion, songs are the 2am version of how you’re feeling. Full Time was born in the midst of a lot of life changes; I had just moved, my relationship was coming to an end and I was mourning the loss of the way things had been.
We worked really hard to get the mood right for this EP and I’m really happy with how it turned out.
This EP is the first time I have ever completely self-produced my music. It was extremely satisfying to guide the direction of these tracks on my own.
The songs were mixed with Oz Fritz at Ancient Wave Studios, in Northern Carolina. The studio is located on a farm just outside of Nevada City. It was an inspiring place to exist for a while and focus on creating - Field Guide.

Winter - Bonsai.
A new EP from LA's Winter is on it's way. The first single & video, "Bonsai", a technicolor whirlwind who's setting is the perfect dreamscape for the song's nostalgic summer energy. The video was directed by Ambar Navarro, who's videos for Cuco, Soccer Mommy, Anna Burch, you've likely seen.
The band is the songwriting outlet for Samira Winter, who grew up in Curitiba, Brazil with an American father and a Brazilian mother, before moving to the US at 18 for college. She started the project in her last semester in Boston then relocated to Los Angeles where the band currently resides.
Since then, she's built a loyal fanbase and toured the US and Brazil extensively. Despite coverage from Noisey, Rolling Stone, Line of Best Fit, and The 405, among others, she's managed to remain a hidden gem of LA's DIY scene, but her 2019 seems poised to change that.
Winter has toured with Speedy Ortiz, Broncho, Anna Burch, and played festivals such as Desert Daze and the Animal Collective Big Sur festival. They have toured internationally in Europe, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. Winter has released two records “Supreme Blue Dream”(2015) and “Ethereality”(2018) as well as the (mostly) Brazilian album “Estrela Magica” in collaboration with the psych band Triptides.
The Infinite Summer EP shows a more playful 80's spin on Winter's already nostalgic sound. With songs in both English and Portuguese, the five track EP follows the range of emotions any girl will experience in her bedroom daydreams. Infinite Summer will be out April 13th in partnership with Record Store Day as an exclusive to all indie record stores.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adámas - Change It.
About "Change It": An exploration of the everyday inner struggle. A lullaby for the broken, a song for those who keep going, against the day. A call of awakening, an invitation to transformation through the acceptance of who we are. A shameless procedure, a petition to love one self with no limits, no judgement, as is. To change whatever stands in between of who you were and who you want to be.
About Adámas: Formed in 2015 in a warehouse on Pico Boulevard and in the heart of Los Angeles' Byzantine Latino Quarter, Adámas began as a sonic/lyrical exploration of sounds and themes between friends inspired by Fela Kuti, Talking Heads and traditional music from around the world.
Since then, the group’s members, who have worked with the likes of Raphael Saadiq, LCD Soundsystem, Kanye West, Aloe Blacc, Celia Cruz, Jungle Fire and Monophonics to name a few, embraced their Greek/Colombian/West African/Californian cultural and spiritual roots as Afro Hellenic Punk, a unique infusion of Afro derived psych-funk/soul and electronic sounds that defies geography and time. Following their March 2017 single release titled “Living the Dream” (Belú Music), Adámas are now preparing for the release in Spring 2019 of their first formal offering, the EP titled “Liminal”.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rainbrother - Honeybird.
Danish band Rainbrother have released their new album Island. Fronted by songwriter Bjarke Bendtsen, the five-piece explore themes of voluntary isolation, lost love and self-acceptance over ten tracks.
In order to escape the rat race and record the album, the band relocated to the attic of an old farm along with producer Kennie Takahashi (Danger Mouse, Beck, Black Keys).
On tracks such as opener ‘Black Chemicals’, earthy, textured guitars are paired with distinctive vocal harmonies that are reminiscent of Fleet Foxes. Elsewhere on the record, for example on ‘Rio Rita’, more progressive elements come to the fore with clear nods to Pink Floyd and a wider palette of sounds, both acoustic and electronic.
Along with touring their native Denmark and the UK, the band have appeared at Bestival, SPOT Festival and SXSW – where in fact the band made the news on the BBC and CNN for an immigration debacle involving their front man Bjarke. When he was denied entry, they had to improvise and they used a pre-taped performance from him projected on a screen behind a drummer while they played their parts in sync.
The metaphorical ‘Island’ refers to withdrawing from the digital noise of the physical world, taking stock of what’s important and choosing to spend more time with the people that you really care for.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEØMA - Lovers.
“Lovers” is the first single from KEØMA's forthcoming album Saudade, and offers an honest and personal glimpse into the duo's lives. Sweeping synthesizers and chorus guitars ride shotgun to Klopfer’s cheeky vocal; which delivers pertinent observations such as “I am the one who chokes one your cigarettes and I don’t even smoke”. There’s a flirtatious tone to the whole undertaking that’s a side of KEØMA we haven’t seen before, with an intimate narrative we can all relate to.
The video features a home video-esque, carefree adventure while the two wander the charming streets of Paris. KEØMA is a collaborative project between Sydney-born, Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Kat Frankie and Cologne-based singer songwriter Chris Klopfer. Kat Frankie is a well known character in the German music landscape via her soulful indie pop, dynamic live shows and collaborations with top-tier German acts (Clueso, Olli Schulz, Casper & Materia). Chris Klopfer hails from the indie rock world, writing in both English and German and duetting with some of Germany’s finest singer-songwriters (Gisbert zu Knyphausen, Moritz Krämer).
This fateful and organically evolving project came together after Klopfer caught a performance from Frankie and suggested they write a song together. The name originates from a Castellari Spaghetti-Western movie about a gunfighter who returns to his hometown only to find out that it’s been ravaged by plague and menaced by outlaws.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saltwater Sun - The Great Deceiver.
Guitar pop powerhouses Saltwater Sun announce the arrival of their highly anticipated EP The Great Deceiver, released today 5th April and preceded by its explosive title-track.
Displaying the quintet at their anthemic best with a barrage of infectious guitars and melting hooks, the follow-up (and EP title-track) has a deeply personal meaning as frontwoman Jen Stearnes reveals: “I wrote this song to my younger self. I always wanted to sing but doubted myself because I hated my appearance and feared it would be scrutinised if I put myself out there.
We all grow up with unrealistic beauty standards, or expectations of how we should be and that makes me think about all the other people have been held back, or made to feel small or like they don’t have a place by those ridiculous standards and expectations. I’ve found confidence over time, but this song services as a little pep talk every now and then, and is here for anyone else who needs it; The Great Deceiver is about finding your voice, not giving in to self doubt and learning to be comfortable in yourself, whoever that is”.
Ramping up preparations for their EP release with impressive support slots alongside US alt-rockers Jimmy Eat World, Anteros and The Amazons, the Reading fivesome will be celebrating with a launch show in their hometown, before a slew of festival appearances at the likes of Live At Leeds and Liverpool Sound City, with more to be announced in the coming months.

Empathy Test - Lusterlit - Mcbaise - Louise Connell - Winter and Trabants - Sophie Morgan

Background - Empathy Test recently shared their latest single "Everything Will Work Out". The track is from their forthcoming EP 'Everything Will Work Out' (out Nov 3rd) and also appears on their new LP 'Safe From Harm' (out Nov 17). The duo explains that their latest single is about "hooking up with your ex and then waking up in the morning and realising you're not going to get back together, but it's okay; it's for the best". On November 17th, the band will be releasing two debut LPs, 'Losing Touch (Remastered)' and 'Safe From Harm', both of which contain remastered versions of previously released material as well as brand new tracks. You can pre-order the EP via iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp, and pre-order the LPs here.
Empathy Test was formed in 2013 by childhood friends Isaac Howlett and Adam Relf. Sharing a mutual love for all things sci-fi, the London-based duo draw inspiration from ‘80s movie soundtracks, ‘90s guitar bands and underground dance music. Their name, borrowed from Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner, gives a clue to the DNA of a band that, since its conception just three years ago, has self-released a string of meticulously layered, life-affirming Synthpop tracks that have won them both critical acclaim a legion of dedicated fans worldwide.
‘Everything Will Work Out’ represents a bold new sonic statement from Howlett and Relf, who, in a now wholly oversaturated synth scene, have used their considerable talents to form an enthralling, standalone identity. Shedding the dark, melancholy nightscapes of early tracks like their debut, ‘Losing Touch’, which has now had over half a million plays on Spotify, this new single finds the band stepping into the light, rocking the kind of chorus you wouldn’t be surprised to find on a new Haim album. Packed full of hooks and constantly evolving, Everything Will Work Out is the perfect final taster for new LP, ‘Safe From Harm’.
Fiercely independent, the band remains unsigned, having already turned down their fair share of record deals in favour of crowdfunding their twin debut albums via PledgeMusic. The hugely successful campaign is now 575% funded and counting, showing the huge weight of support they have behind them. Despite the lack of label-backing, they’re also turning in the kind of Spotify streams you would expect from the latest industry-backed buzz band, with their last single Bare My Soul already having racked up 70K+ plays. WEBSITE. FACEBOOK.
The vocals are notable from the beginning as they drift above a rich synth layered musical soundtrack. 'Everything Will Work Out' is a refreshing electro pop song with bags of feeling.

Lusterlit - Flight.
Background - Lusterlit today share thier new video for the song Flight from the List Of Equipment EP. Directed by Deb Magocsi, it is inspired by The Fortress Of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem and is filled with images that conjure the magic, the Brooklyn, and the altitude of the story, not to mention Ms. Josephine Baker.
Lusterlit is having a video release show today Friday October 20th at 7PM at Communitea (11-18 46th Rd, New York, New York 11101). They will be sharing the bill with Frank Olson Twins, Neil Kelly and Jheremie Jacque, all of whom will also be premiering new music videos as well as performing.
With their songs created for Bushwick Book Club, BBC founder, Susan Hwang and BBC contributor and producer, Charlie Nieland, have joined forces to perform as the new, literature-inspired duo—Lusterlit.
Both vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, Charlie and Susan alternate lead vocals and harmonies while supporting each other on guitar, bass, synth, traditional Korean drum and accordion. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK, BANDCAMP.
The brand new music video for 'Flight' adds further character, interest and identity to what is a funky and fabulous song. We featured the EP earlier this year & really recommend a listen at the very least.

Background - "Mcbess is an illlustrator and musician originally from the south of France, living nowadays in London.
From playing drums, saxophone and percussion in a jazz band in Cannes as a teenager, to being part of multiple rock bands in London, it’s been quite the journey.
During the winter of 2014 Mcbess recorded Seabass in the south of France, between two family dinners, a way to capture the almost post-apocalyptic mood that resides in Cannes during the rest of the year in this dormant resort.
Giving birth to “mcbaise”, becoming a sandbox to create some smooth tunes with the right amount of 'weird.'" BANDCAMP, FACEBOOK.
There is a gentle and lazy feel to '610', a cool and laid back rocker that mixes melodic hooks with some bluesy vibes. If you like this track then check out the other twelve songs on their album 'Windowsill', I think your in for a very welcome surprise.

Louise Connell - Ilo.
Background - Louise Connell is a singer-songwriter from Airdrie, near Glasgow. Previously performing and releasing her music under the name Reverieme, she has earned a considerable reputation as an outstanding songwriter, with a particular knack for framing intelligent, literate lyrics in haunting and beautiful melodies, delivered by “a voice that would melt iron” (Ravechild).
Her first studio album, Straw Woman (2016), was released to consistent critical acclaim and overwhelmingly positive reviews, and was the featured Album Of The Week on several BBC Radio Scotland programmes as well as receiving general airplay on Radio 2, Radio 6 (Lauren Laverne’s “Headphone Moment”), Radio 4, Virgin Radio and Amazing Radio.
Recently, her work has come to the attention of legendary artist and designer James Marsh. Famous for his wonderful illustrations for records by Talk Talk, Jamiroquai and many others, James drew inspiration from Louise’s newest songs to create a series of beautiful designs for her forthcoming releases, which will be the first records released under her own name Louise Connell.
These will be a series of three 6-track EPs, each of which will reflect a slightly different aspect of Louise’s writing and performance. The first EP, Squall will be released on October 20th, with parts 2 and 3 (Echo and Rale) following in January and March 2018 respectively. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
We featured Louise Connell in February last year when she was using the Reverieme moniker & it's a pleasure to share another beautiful song from her with 'Ilo'. Her gorgeous vocals are accompanied by a refined musical arrangement and the good news is that there is plenty more to follow.

Background - LA-based (by way of Brazil) dream-pop band Winter recently wrapped up a tour opening for another female-fronted LA act, Cherry Glazerr, a show supporting Colleen Green, and a show at the Desert Daze Festival in Joshua Tree in Oct. Their stand-alone single "Just Stay" featuring Trabants has just been shared.
Winter is a dreamy indie rock band whose sound was conceived in Boston. The current tour finds Samira Winter backed by Justine Brown, Chelsea Brown, and Anders LaSource of fellow LA band Summer Twins.
The quartet released their first full-length album, Supreme Blue Dream, via Lolipop Records in 2015. The aptly titled album floats on with a youthful sense of nostalgia and romanticized segues into adulthood. Influences include most of the 90s holy grail of grunge/alternative music (Dinosaur Jr., Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Pixies, etc.). Winter aspires to connect others with their inner child by making blissful, beautiful and ethereal pop music. FACEBOOK.
'Just Stay' is a soothing and lush dream pop meets indie rock song. Melodic and flowing, it's very catchy and the accompanying old home movie footage (I'm guessing that's what it is) is fabulous.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sophie Morgan - Hey Annie.
Background - Twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Sophie Morgan released her debut EP Annie recently and the video for lead track Hey Annie is available to watch now.
Born in Liverpool and raised in Rainhill and Widnes, Sophie began playing piano aged 6 and wrote her first songs aged 9. Brought up on an early musical education of Nick Drake and Van Morrison, and later introduced to Joni Mitchell and Carole King, Sophie released her first single Marionette last year and followed this with Quietly, picking up BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music support along the way.
After a chance meeting with The Verve’s Simon Jones, whilst singing in church at a friend’s wedding, Sophie began recording in Simon’s Chester studio alongside Davide Rossi (Goldfrapp, Coldplay, The Verve) and it was there that the Annie EP was produced.
Hey Annie is the perfect introduction to the EP. It is a folk-tinged track with a delicate animated melody and a warming honeyed vocal. The EP is shaped by Sophie’s musical influences and is a body of work that is ahead of her young years. The video is a relaxed affair and shows Sophie and her tight-knit group of musician friends performing the track together in retro inspired footage. Sophie says;
“It encapsulates my earliest musical years, marking the end of the first chapter and the beginning of the next. The EP features the playing of all the musical friends I have made so far and is a real family affair recorded between all of our houses. I can feel that warmth and homeliness in the imperfections of the recordings - like the squeaking of my old piano stool or the creaking of the floorboards in my living room.” WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.
'Hey Annie' is a gently melodic song where Sophie Morgan's vocals are full of feeling. The band deliver a superb soundtrack, with high quality musicianship, as can be seen (and heard) on the 'live' music video.

The She's - The County Liners - Valerie Ghent - Ponytails - The Sound of Ghosts - Winter

Background - With their respective tongues in their respective cheeks, Sami, Hannah, Eva, and Sinclair of The She’s proudly present to you their second LP - "all female rock and roll quartet". This time The She’s are behind the wheel, self-producing this release with counsel and encouragement from tUne-Yards’ Merrill Garbus.
Lyrically, The She’s deliver a more mature, grounded, and self-aware album than ever before. Their storytelling is cathartic and relatable. Across twelve tracks, The She’s examine themes of guilt, heartbreak, disappointment, frustration, yearning, and acceptance. The She’s effortlessly balance lyrical sophistication and bluntness, like in “Death Dreams” when Sami plainly asserts, “hate how you treat the air like you’ll find your breath in it somewhere.”
Tonally, "all female rock and roll quartet" strays a bit from earlier releases. Drawing inspiration from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Sleater-Kinney, and tUne-Yards, The She’s have officially leveled up in terms of sonic experimentation and eccentricity. From the blown-out wall of blistering guitars in “Ashes”, to the trance-inducing ebb and flow of the rhythm section in “Sorry”, to the spacious, angelic build up of vocal, guitars, and percussion in “Holly”, The She’s second LP offers up a plentiful spread of compelling tones and arrangements for listeners to lose themselves in.
"all female rock and roll quartet" is not what long time fans of The She’s might expect. Some time has passed since their last release, and it seems as though they’ve been through some stuff since then. Sonically raw, this album is a vulnerable and honest depiction of who The She’s are now. "all female rock and roll quartet" boasts a new level of confidence and creativity in their songwriting, storytelling, and musicianship; willingly letting moments go unresolved and letting loose ends hang with intention and certainty. Bandcamp here, Facebook here.
'Heartache' is a beautiful swaggering alt rock song, that has a natural live feel to it. Full of hooks and free of any pretentious moments, it's one fine rocker.

The County Liners - Love Letter.
Background - The County Liners, Mary Jane Dunphe & Chris McDonnell in the County Liners, release date: Friday, November 17th 2017
The County Liners started in Mary Jane Dunphe and Chris McDonnell's country home in Olympia, WA in the winter of 2016. Longtime friends and collaborators, Chris and Mary Jane began writing 80's/90's inspired country tunes when Mary Jane found herself bedridden with a debilitating ankle injury.
Adding to the starkly naked approach of the record, the group reinvisioned lyrics from McDonnell's mother, Virginia Maurer, for the single “Love Letter.” Riley Kendig, also living with Dunphe and McDonnell, Mirce Popovic joined the band to help arrange and perform the deeply personal songs for this five song EP. Recorded and mixed by Captain Tripps Ballsington, The County Liners debut is nothing short of heartbreaking. Bandcamp here.
My first impressions were, 'Love Letters' sounds like a late seventies new wave song (maybe Television) performed with more modern Americana vibes. I reckon there are enough complements within that assessment, to leave it just there!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background - NYC recording artist Valerie Ghent celebrates her newest video, New York City Streets, with a worldwide release on youtube.com/valerieghent and a call for response videos made by anyone who loves New York City.
A love letter to her native city, the New York City Streets video was shot in all five boroughs of The Big Apple, in dozens of locations, many of personal significance to the enthusiastic and rockin’ NY singer/musician/composer. “New York is a beloved and iconic city for people around the globe”, Valerie says, “Whenever I travel people tell me how much they love NYC! So I’m inviting anyone who loves New York City to make your own video with the song, showcase your favorite parts of New York, and post it on YouTube. Show us your “New York City Streets!”
Voted #2 Best Song of 2016 by West Coast Music Radio, New York City Streets features rock solid performances by veteran New York musicians who have played on countless hits by world-class artists including Ashford & Simpson, Luther Vandross, Chic, Roberta Flack, Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, David Byrne and many more. A free mp3 of the song is available from Valerie’s website, for anyone who wants to make their own version of a New York City Streets video. Website here, Facebook here.
'New York City Streets' took me straight back to The Crusaders & Street Life. It's not a clone of said song, it just has that wonderful vibe and a timeless feel. The video is equally wonderful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ponytails - Ponytails EP.
Background - Ponytails came to fruition in March 2016, spawned from best friends Harvey Merrit (vocals, bass) and Travis Goeres (lead guitar) love of pizza and the theme music of Sylvester Stallone movies. Liam Ness (bass, rhythm guitar, vocals) and Simon Furminger (drums, vocals) joined in late March and in September 2016 started working on their self-titled EP.
Recorded at Little Red Sounds with Felix Fung And recorded over the course of three long days really pushed the band and producer to their fullest. The band released their first single "Pieces" on October 1st, 2016 followed by a full release of the EP on November 1st.
The anticipation of their EP was strengthened by word of mouth from their electric live performances and off stage antics that has garnered attention from the Fox Cabaret, the Biltmore, Roundhouse radio and headlining Beatroute's Rifflandia stage (last minute) at the Copper Owl.
They have shared the stage with the likes of, Wishkicker, Leisure club, Peach Pit and Dopey's Robe. They returned to the studio this summer to start work on their first full-length LP. Bandcamp here.
With an album on the way the original 'Ponytails EP' is getting a fresh share & is most definitely worth a feature. A collection of fresh indie sounding rock songs, the EP may well be the first step for a good few people to check out what's to follow.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background - The Sound of Ghosts are an Americana roots musical collective hailing from Los Angeles, California. The five-piece collective of accomplished musicians have crafted a musical experience unlike any other with their unique arrangements and vast variety of influences. A culmination of traditional front porch Americana, folk-laden melodies and vintage rock’n’roll, The Sound of Ghosts have succeeded in bringing their own edge to this timeless genre of music.
The Sound of Ghosts are James Orbison (vocals, bass), Anna Orbison (vocals, ukulele), Ernesto Rivas (lead guitar), Phoebe Silva (fiddle) and Jon Sarna (drums). United they have pushed the boundaries of typical Americana and created an ever-evolving sound demonstrating the diversity of each of their own different musical backgrounds. Included in this are elements of classic rock, musical theatre, country and everything in between, Rivas explains “everyone's different perspective is an essential part to the diverse sound we create”.
The Sound of Ghosts formed in memory of the band’s friend Dave Lamb, who passed away too soon from Leukaemia. Lamb headed an acclaimed band ‘Brown Bird’ with his wife that was named NPR’s folk group of the year. James Orbison was touched and inspired by the impact Lamb had made on not only him, but the community around him. James Orbison fell back into music as a mechanism to cope with his grief, where he consequently rediscovered his passion for writing and playing again. They decided to name their band ‘The Sound of Ghosts’ which was the title of Brown Bird’s first album, as a way to honor Lamb and to be constant reminder of his love for music.
Their upcoming release entitled Delivery and Departure is filled with diverse soundscapes and a multitude of sonic textures. The new music is set to be an immersive listening experience. Anna Orbison explains, “I hope it inspires people to look at the world in a little different way. Notice the things around you… that’s what we write songs about”.
Lead single ‘Train to Nowhere’ is an upbeat folky song with driving guitars, catchy hooks and story-telling lyricism. Showcasing the band’s signature sound of fiddle fueled melodies and soaring harmonies, accompanied by a powerful trumpet solo, it is assured to get listeners up and dancing. "This song is a perfect mix of what we do best”, reveals Anna Orbison. Originally inspired after watching two acclaimed Netflix documentaries entitled ‘Big Easy Express’ and ‘Festival Express', the narrative was built around the ideology of escapism and the importance of adventure. The song symbolizes the journey of self discovery and introspection. Website here, Facebook here.
If Americana in any of it's diverse forms is your thing then 'Train To Nowhere' may well ensure another band become firmly stuck on your musical radar. With a tune this good, that would probably apply to lovers of music way beyond just this classic arrangement.

Winter - Jaded.
Background - LA-based (by way of Brazil) dream-pop band Winter just wrapped up a tour opening for another female-fronted LA act, Cherry Glazerr. The band has added additional fall dates and will be playing the Desert Daze Festival in Joshua Tree in Oct. The new video for their stand-alone single "Jaded" has been released.
New live dates are listed on Beehive Candy's tour news page, Facebook here.
Dream pop with attitude 'Jaded' is more of a powerful slide towards fresh punk. No wonder considering the bands influences, this is a feisty piece by any measurement.

Weekend Wonders: Saint Marilyn - Lori Cullen - Navy Gangs - Matt Stillert - Winter

Background promo - Brooklyn-based synth-pop duo Saint Marilyn released their track "Frustrate Me". The single marries hazy psych-pop synths, dub scattered drumbeats and spine-chilling vocals.
Vocalist/drummer Che Houston opened up to them about the track: “We wanted there to be an indecisive aspect to the way the synthesizers bend and move, to emulate the fluctuations of emotion in a personal conflict."
After releasing their EP 'Shoshone' last year, the band flourished with a dancy high-energy live-show, integrating live drums and bass into their sound, and making rounds at popular New York venues. "Frustate Me" comes ahead of a full-length release, set to come out in 2017, which will see them experimenting with elements of house and psych-pop.
They'll play two New York dates this month, at C'mon Everybody on October 18th, and at Bowery Electric on October 25th. Facebook here.
'Frustrate Me' is a synth pop song with expansive and delightful vocals, and a sensitive synthy soundtrack. Put together you have a smooth gliding and melodic song that's foundations are solid quality musical vibes.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Background from Lori - Having two of my favourite people who also happen to be my favourite songwriters write an album of material for ME to sing is beyond exciting.
Like so many songs on this record Ron Sexsmith has written lyrics so personal but also so universal. Making babies is nothing new or original but when you have your own the world is forever changed. The joy and love is infinite and you'll never sleep the same again.
This song, as well as the upcoming album, was recorded at Canterbury Sound by veteran engineer Jeremy Darby (FOG, Pixies, Lou Reed) and produced by Maury Lafoy, who also played bass along with the core band of drummer Mark Mariash, keyboardist Robbie Grunwald, and guitarist Swinghammer.
I'm set to release "Sexsmith Swinghammer Songs" on October 28, 2016 via True North Records, Oct 29 - Toronto, ON - Hugh’s Room (Album Launch). Pre-order here.
With the background above I was expecting quality and 'Then There Were Three' is that, and a whole lot more. It's one of those songs where I almost feel the need to plead, that you give it a listen. I cannot wait for the album!

Background - Navy Gangs is a pop quintet currently residing in the washed out and overly demanding area of New York City. Singer/Guitarist Matthew Tillwick, Guitarist Noah Kohll, and Drummer Gavin Cordaro began orchestrating music together in 2012 at Central High School in the red light district of Omaha where they failed their junior years miserably.
For 2 months they took jobs working in the desert dome at the Henry Doorly zoo until they saved enough of their dismal wages for one way bus passes to New York City, where they moved in temporarily with Kohll's grandmother Estelle.
After making some new friends in Washington Square park, the 3 boys found themselves in a basement scene in little Italy. It was there that they met their bassist, Wilson Keithline from Providence, Rhode Island. Together they became Navy Gangs, a troupe who's songs grab influence from dark rooms, hopeless romanticism, table wine, and back page humor.
The EP was recorded in Noah Kohll’s grandmother Estelle’s home by Joey Kimono straight to 2 inch tape and was mixed and mastered by Steve Marion of Delicate Steve. It features vocals and percussion from long-time friend Coley Gold, a nomadic vixen who plays shows with the band often but never rings ahead of time (just shows up).
Derived from heartbreak, endless internet streaming, and the pain that is being social, Navy Gangs debut EP is a pop miracle. EP released this Friday October 14th via No Roads. The boys will take the stage every week of October for a month-long residency at Berlin NYC. They'll share the stage with Beth Israel, Jennifer Vanilla, and Rubber this Friday October 14th. Jonny Couch will celebrate his own EP release on October 20th, with Navy Gangs, Plain Dog, and Bodega. The final date will include Hotline, Grooms, and Vivienne Eastwood, on October 29th. Facebook here.
The video has a curiously surreal and engaging start to it, the song 'Mondays' follows and lives up to expectations set. It's a confident indie rock anthem of sorts, that hooks into me, and insists on another listen (and another).

Background - The boycotter of the metaphorical shoe, poet, protester, grower of veggies and facial hair, Matt Stillert, says he's just getting warmed up. In the Adelaide winter just gone, after a three year musical journey spent on the road, the solo barefoot wanderer reunited with his band ‘Madclassic’ (Tim Foster, Dave Phillips) and recorded his most refined studio work to date in the form of new single ‘K.I. Honey’.
The hypnotic rhythm and seamless guitar play in ‘K.I. Honey’ provides a platform for a subtle yet powerful message that carries an air of protest and activism. Stillert says of the track, "K.I. Honey is about unity, power in numbers and sticking it to the man. “The bitch took my money" is not about an ex-girlfriend, the bitch represents ‘the man’ and the oppressive powers that be who are keeping us all financially enslaved in order to maintain their positions of power."
Though at its heart, ‘K.I. Honey’ is a celebration of the tribal love and healing power of musical harmony. It's named after the Ligurian Honey Bees residing on Kangaroo Island that make some of the best honey in the world and that are known for their friendly nature.
Matt explains,“I draw the analogy of the hive and the human tribe; we could take some wisdom from the co-operation of many lives for a higher purpose. Considering the bees on K.I. are possibly the last of their kind, the message extends to illuminate the precariousness of our global human situation, adding an air of desperation to save what's left and to maintain an inhabitable earth with a peaceful future for life on the planet." Matt is kicking off the ‘K.I.Honey’ tour in Victoria this October and heading north, making his way up to Queensland by the new year, playing over 40 shows along the way with even broader touring plans set for 2017.
With the ‘K.I. Honey’ video capturing the grass roots essence that is integral to everything Matt Stillert, the clip was filmed in the heart of Adelaide during the middle of a bitingly cold winter and is testimony to the struggling, yet surviving and passionate local music scenes across Australia. Stillert hopes ‘K.I. Honey’ will be a source of imagination, empowerment and positivity for all who hear it. More here.
The music is refined and skillfully delivered, whilst the vocals have character and resonate wonderfully. 'K.I. Honey' has a message, the song delivers that, and some smooth feeling vibes.

Background - LA-based (by way of Brazil) dream-pop band Winter shares their latest single "Dreaming." Originally written in 2013, the song was almost lost when the band's laptop was stolen on tour. This summer a version of the song was miraculously recovered on a backup hard drive, and a music video for the single will be released soon.
Winter is a dreamy indie rock band whose sound was conceived in Boston. Beginning as a collaborative effort between Samira Winter and Nolan Eley, their first recordings culminated into the 2012 EP entitled Daydreaming. Following the release, Samira’s relocation to Los Angeles brought on the recruit of additional members Matt Hogan (guitar), Justine Brown (bass), and Garren Orr (drums) to create a band that would manifest her ultimate dreams.
The quartet released their first full-length album, Supreme Blue Dream, via Lolipop Records in 2015. The aptly titled album floats on with a youthful sense of nostalgia and romanticized segues into adulthood. Touching on not one, but two languages (English and Portuguese), this bi-lingual group of dreamers do their part to lay us down softly while keeping listeners eager for each tune. Winter aspires to connect others with their inner child by making blissful, beautiful and ethereal pop music.
Winter is now working on their upcoming record Ethereality. The band supported Broncho on their 2016 North America Tour and recently performed at Animal Collective’s Camping Weekend in Big Sur in September. Facebook here.
Tour Dates:
October 18 Los Angeles, CA - Bootleg Theater w/ Ducktails, Ablebody (Record Release), Wyatt Blair
October 21 San Francisco, CA - Slims w/ Picture Atlantic
November 5 San Diego, CA - Blonde Bar w/ So Many Wizards
November 6 Fullerton, CA - Continental Room w/ So Many Wizards.
'Dreaming' is dream pop with a little indie rock slant. Even the guitars have something of a hazy distant feel, whilst the vocals glide smoothly above, it's a breath of fresh air, on a warm sunny day.
