Jo Yonderly - Mark Elliott - Turkey The Bird - Souly Us - Loumy - William The Conqueror - Kalbells

Jo Yonderly - Dead inside the inside.

The long time missing underground artist Jo Yonderly has finally been found! After years of searching, the man behind the mystical and enchanting demos that reached the Rama Lama HQ some time ago have been tracked down in Malmö, Sweden.

This with great help from Djoana Djones who is currently making a documentary about the journey, the first teaser is available to see here. ‘Dead inside the inside’ is the first track to reach the public’s ears from a forthcoming debut album.

‘Dead inside the inside’ is something you’d imagine to be a classic, but hard to define from what decade, or is it even from the future? It hits you right from the start and as the title line echoes in eternity you really get the feeling of being “dead inside”.

We asked Jo Yonderly to describe Dead inside the inside for this press release and he said: "I generally don't like blogs and papers, and so it evens out, but if you have to quote me, tell them it's about the abscense of mental health".

Dead inside the outside is out now on all platforms through Rama Lama Record.

Mark Elliott - Talk to Yourself.

Mark Elliott's “Talk to Yourself” The Runaway Home member’s latest single begins with a mellow guitar intro evocative of Chris Stapleton’s Jazzmaster on “Tennessee Whiskey.”  The groove will immediately bring you into the bluesy, guitar-forward, country space occupied by Keith Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” and Hunter Hayes’ “Rainy Season.” However, “Talk to Yourself” is far from a sad song about a downhearted girl or a failing relationship.

It’s a heartfelt, comforting waltz that reassures you “it’ll all work out if you try” and treat yourself like a good mother or kind friend would. With his earnest, soulful voice, Elliott comes across as exactly such a figure. Accompanied by American Idol alum Melinda Doolittle, the Americana singer-songwriter delivers just the track we need to help us recover from a long and hectic year.

Mark Elliott is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, author, and principal vocalist/guitarist for the Americana band Runaway Home. He has written for some of Nashville’s top publishing houses, including Sony-Tree, Maypop, and Bluewater Music. He’s a winner of the coveted Kerrville New Folk Award and had songs covered by both indie and major-label artists. Mark’s book, The Sons of Starmount: Memoir of a Ten-Year-Old Boy, is out in paperback and audiobook.

Turkey The Bird - Cave Rave.

Turkey The Bird, the band feat. Andre Manella from Switzerland is on guitar, is New Zealand's answer to Simon & Garfunkel (if & was a musician too). They write catchy folk songs with stunning rich melodies. Songs that tell uplifting stories about love and life. You can hear them on their new single 'Cave Rave'. But this time, life proved its quite dramatic side.

Cave Rave is based on a true story. It's a song about a sailing trip through the Pacific in 2014, when their boat «Sol» was hit by a storm. The trio remembers those days in serious trouble: «Our yacht was beached and scrapped. Whilst waiting for rescue, a number of small people gave us refuge in their dwelling. It was a home carved by hand into the side of a cliff, and this is a song in their memory.»

Turkey The Bird are spread around the globe, creating beautiful three part harmonies and toe tapping rhythms: Andre Manella from Switzerland is on guitar, bass and percussion. Adrian Whelan from Ireland is on guitar, bass and spoons, and Sol Bear Coulton, the token kiwi, on Banjo.

Souly Us - Everything Has Changed.

Rising Australian country duo Souly Us have released the music video for their latest single “Everything Has Changed.” The video, which features gorgeous scenes of members Ben and Kate performing on the Aussie shores, made its Australian debut on MTV and CMT last night. The corresponding single was recorded by the couple in lockdown and was released this past December on all digital and streaming platforms.

“Everything Has Changed” combines the duo’s signature country sound with a strong indie influence to create a truly unique and captivating soundscape. The song opens up with bright acoustic guitar and clean electric guitar accompanied by a locked-in rhythm section. Kate’s vocals provide a beautiful and soothing melody to complement the instrumentals. Considering how mellow the beginning of the song is, it feels fitting that the corresponding scenes of the music video are set in the couple’s home.

The chorus finds the 2020 Akademia Music Award winners barefoot on the rocky beaches of their hometown singing about how “everything has changed.”

“We are from Inverloch, a beautiful coastal town in southern Victoria, Australia. Living by the beach has definitely had an influence on the music we create, especially lyrically. We often speak of beach surroundings and we even go there to write sometimes! It’s amazing the inspiration that comes to you just by sitting there, breathing in the ocean air and watching the waves hit the shore.” - (Ben Mawdsley, Souly Us)

Loumy - What I Need.

Her last singles made it into the playlists of various radios, even abroad. Now Zurich-based Loumy is following this success with «What I Need», her intense dreampop-inspired ep. Rarely you hear such intimate and dreamy music coming from Switzerland, in the feel of Heather Nova.

«What I need», the leading-song of the ep, is about self-sabotage and represents a conversation between Loumy's reasonable, rational side and her emotional, impulsive one. While the emotional side has known for a long time that certain things are not working, she still is holding on them, looking for reasons and explanations. Meanwhile all rational warnings are set to fail.

Loumy's career started writing her own songs at the age of 15. Soon she founded the duo Tales of Two with a friend. First concerts and an EP followed. For three years now Loumy has been pursuing her solo career, which led to the release of her first single «December» in 2019.

Winning a singer-songwriter competition of HoneyBee Records, Loumy got the chance to record one of her own songs with five other artists in early 2020: «Moonlight» once marked the beginning of her career. One she's now continuing with her new ep «What I need».

William The Conqueror - Quiet Life.

Acclaimed UK band William The Conqueror announce their new album Maverick Thinker will release on March 5th through Chrysalis Records. The band also shared their new single "Quiet Life," a charming, slow-building lament that broadens out like a rolling landscape with a fuzz and crunch that gets toned down for something altogether more reflective.

Of the new single, frontman Ruarri Joseph stated, "With 'Quiet Life,' we wanted to step outside the sound of the trio and build some walls, add some layers for this one. It's a trippy, fuzzy wander down someone else's memory lane, so we went cinematic."

"The video is a time capsule of a very strange morning back in March 2020," he continued. "My friend and filmmaker Luke had just arrived in LA from Sydney to shoot some super 8 of us in the studio, but as soon as he arrived, the studio shut down and we all had to leave. We had a few hours before our new flights, so we headed to Venice Beach thinking it'd be a cool, buzzing place to get some shots and turn some film over. I guess having been in the studio bubble for the past week, we hadn't had a reference for this 'pandemic' we kept hearing about. Wandering around an empty Venice Beach was a rough landing for sure. Consider the bubble well and truly burst. And full props to Luke for flying from Sydney to LA and back in the space of two days and not complaining once (at least not to us anyway)."

Maverick Thinker was recorded out in LA (alongside producer Joseph Lorge) at the legendary Sound City Studios right ahead of last year's March lockdown, and put the band behind the glass and treading the same carpet as Nirvana, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and Fleetwood Mac. A cursory listen to this new record suggests they might well have inhaled the spirit of them all. But to compare them with the greats does the West Country's William The Conqueror a disservice for they sound unlike any of the above. These are slinky, swampy rock 'n roll songs, razor sharp, dripping with the blues and an oft sardonic vocal delivery by Ruarri, the band's songwriter chief and lead vocalist. Written in the English countryside, it's made for sticky basement bar room stages where they dare to come alive with a vision of bigger rooms and broader stages. Taking that zest to tape has lost none of that fervour.

Kalbells - Purplepink.

Kalbells—led by Kalmia Traver (of Rubblebucket) with her bandmates Angelica Bess (Body Language), Zoë Brecher (Hushpuppy, Sad13), and Sarah Pedinotti (Okkervil River, LipTalk)—have announced the release of their sophomore album Max Heart, out March 26 on NNA Tapes.

Max Heart explores what happens when we let go of what doesn’t serve us in order to leave space for the blessings that do. The album’s ten vibrant and subtly layered tracks of mesmerizing psychedelic synth pop (co-engineered with Luke Temple) were birthed from the band’s practice of listening and accountability, rejoicing in their queerness, and promoting each other to be their most genuine selves. Max Heart is a portrait of badass women harnessing their improvisational magic.

A prime example of Kalbells furthering their sum energies is the effervescent funk of lead single “Purplepink,” out today. Co-written between Traver, Bess, and Pedinotti, a hyper synth bass darts around elongated keyboard sighs. The video, conceptualized and directed by Lisa Schatz, features 3D animated rocket ships, faceless furry creatures, a 30 foot glittery hologram of Maddie Rice (Jon Batiste’s Stay Human, Saturday Night Live Band) shredding on guitar, and Kalbells as warrior space queens. Read the full bio here.

Max Heart is available to pre-order on standard black & "Salty Pickle" green vinyl, as well as on compact disc and digital formats here. The album will be available on "Red Marker" red vinyl exclusively from local indie record stores.

Turkey The Bird - Golden Bear - Peter Cat - HMS Morris

Turkey The Bird were first featured here back in September and they return today with 'Art and Design' where their refreshing bright and stylish brand of indie pop impresses again. ===== Golden Bear have today released their new album 'Dear Texas'. The album mixes Texan country rock with Americana and both the musicianship and natural vocals ensure this is a great collection of songs. ===== Peter Cat has released the new album 'The Saccharine Underground' from which we have two tracks, namely 'SO STR8' and 'The Big House'. Musically the band cover considerable territory including post-punk, glam rock, baroque pop and synth-pop, so treat these two really fine songs as but a glimpse of the whole. ===== HMS Morris make their fourth appearance on Beehive Candy this year with today's single release 'Partypooper' and once again this versatile duo are on splendid and upbeat form.

Turkey The Bird - Art and Design.

Turkey The Bird is New Zealand's answer to Simon & Garfunkel (if '&' was a musician too). Catchy folk songs with stunning rich melodies and effortless smooth lyrics. Songs that tell uplifting stories about love and life. You can hear them on their new single 'Art and Design'.

The bearded trio is spread around the globe, creating beautiful three part harmonies and toe tapping rhythms: Andre Manella from Switzerland is on guitar, bass and percussion. Adrian Whelan from Ireland is on guitar, bass and spoons, and Sol Bear Coulton, the token kiwi, on Banjo.

This tasty folk-pop-track called «Art and Design» blends a simple tapestry of lyrics with a very catchy melody, the message conveying  the concept of art and design to a shape and form. Looking through a camera lens while travelling through time, «there's a right way and a wrong way you can view a piece of art», the band says. The track reflects on the complexity and simplicity of art and design in the real world.

Golden Bear - Dear Texas (Album).

Golden Bear is excited to announce the release of their new album, Dear Texas. As the title implies, the album is a love letter to the band’s home state. All of the songs were written and recorded during the quarantine, with band members contributing their parts from their homes.

Dear Texas takes listeners on a journey across Texas from the west Texas plains through the hill country, all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. The album’s songs convey a yearning to get on the road, remember past adventures, and to create new ones.

Chris Gregory on making Dear Texas: For years I thought there needed to be a song about Port Aransas, a city which so many Texans love. One day in March, I was sitting on the couch with my guitar, watching “Magnum PI”, and the riff came to me. I wrote the song in about 10 minutes. For fun, I recorded it and sent the song to my buddy Scott, who added some pedal steel and sent it back to me. I was blown away by his contribution, and decided we needed to do a whole album in this style, and inspired by this state.

Listeners (Texan or otherwise) are sure to enjoy the landscapes, characters, stories, and atmosphere found throughout Dear Texas.

Peter Cat - SO STR8 / The Big House.

Recorded over a two-year period at Glasgow’s Green Door Studios, and mixed by production wunderkind Chris McCrory of Catholic Action, The Saccharine Underground showcases an audiophile's staunch commitment to the analogue form. All songs were recorded to tape, and no digital instrumentation whatsoever was used.

The album's title invokes the genre of baroque pop prevalent in the American pop music of late 1 960s and early 70s, otherwise described as ‘cowboy psychedelia’.

It sums up the contradiction that lies at the heart of the record, in which melodic and textural sweetness is yoked into the service of a wry, dry songwriting style,
narrating stories of awkwardness, failure and foolishness which are oddly life-affirming.

The Saccharine Underground is a sonically ambitious first album, tossing together post-punk, glam rock, baroque pop and synth-pop into a swirling forty-minute cabaret. Lead singer and songwriter Graham Neil Gillespie gives coherence to these diverse compositions with his arch, bass-baritone vocal style, reminiscent of Bowie and Bryan Ferry´s artier turns.

HMS Morris - Partypooper.

Following the release of ‘Babanod’, ‘Poetry’ and ‘Myfyrwyr Rhyngwladol’ earlier in the year, HMS Morris are back with the fourth and final single in the series, ‘Partypooper’, will be released on November 6th.

Songwriter Heledd Watkins explains Partypooper’s origins thus: ‘It’s a response to the mental highs and lows of being a musician – or any kind of human person really. A great deal of us struggle with a little internal partypooper, a malignant imp who likes to wait until we’re at our happiest before screwing up her mean little face and blowing mightily on her shit-horn of doubt and regret, leaving our ears ringing and our confidence in tatters as she skips gleefully away. She’s not above putting the boot in when you’re down either; during the downtime in between gigs, or as you’re reading a crap review of a record you spent the last year perfecting, or when you see a hype band flying past at 100 miles an hour to New Music Friday-land or some equally alluring destination. We all have one. We all deal with them in different ways. Here’s hoping that mine has a fear of high-tempo Latin numbers with horns and distorted wailing.’

Partypooper features guest appearances from the superb Owain Gruffudd and Gwyn Owen from Band Pres Llareggub (Owain also arranged the brass). Iestyn Jones is on drums. It was recorded at St Peter’s and Fitzhamon Studio in Cardiff, and Stiwdio Sain in Llandwrog.

So Are We - LA Love.

So Are We’s long awaited album 'Piece of the Puzzle' is now ready for release! Warm, harmonic and beautiful Americana inspired pop music.

So Are We consists of songwriters Guro Vikingstad (vocal) and Stian Haslie (guitar), occasionally backed up by a band when songs call for it and when the stage is big enough. Their music is americana inspired pop with very personal lyrics, often based on their own lives. The duo is also a couple off-stage, and has a big collection of romantic, sad, happy and funny stories to provide inspiration.

Before the release of their upcoming album, they will release the fourth and last single track named LA Love, today September 25th.

So Are We had a shy start as a duo in 2015, and has since then released 2 singles and an EP, receiving great acclaim from critics. In 2018, So Are We toured around Norway doing 15 concerts, and during their 5th year as a duo built a big and devoted audience. Guro’s voice is often described as intimate and soulful, and Stian’s guitars sometimes sound like a variety of violins but then suddenly turn into the blues devil himself.

FM Collective - In My Backyard.

FM Collective is the Seattle-based music project of Mike Lucero, a multimedia producer known for his work in music, street art and public installations. Lucero has collaborated with many of Seattle’s most prominent artists, including members of The Posies, REM, Macklemore, Heart, Hey Marseilles, Portugal the Man, and The Head and the Heart.

Fittingly, FM Collective was born as a collaborative effort, namely with Ken Stringfellow (Posies, REM, Big Star) on vocals, bass, production, and mixing duties along with a rotating cast of fellow Seattle artists. On their latest single “In My Backyard,” the duo looked to create a romping country song with protest charging through its lyrics, enlisting the help of Andrew Joslyn (Macklemore), Colin Richey (Hey Marseilles, Cloud Nothings, Cataldo) and Kyle Zantos (Head and the Heart). The protest in question was centered on the political deterioration within Lucero’s own community in the wake of Trump.

“This song was inspired by an act of vandalism that occurred at the Jewish temple that I am affiliated with in Seattle,” Lucero says in a press release. “The incident occurred in the spring of 2017 right after the election of Donald Trump which had stoked the flames of thugs across America, including anti-Semites. While Seattle is one of the most progressive cities in the country, it was evidence that, even in the most modern, forward-thinking and tolerant cities, darkness lurks in the shadows. Today, the message resonates stronger than ever.”

All of the proceeds that FM Collective have raised thus far has been donated to Grammy’s Musicares program, raising nearly $20K to date.

Turkey The Bird - Everybody Needs A Little Sunshine.

Weird times. We're not supposed to travel at the moment, for example to the sea. But no worries, now the sea comes to your home, thanks to Turkey The Bird. The trio has packed sunshine and vacation-feelings into a big box and send them over.

Their songs: enlightening stories about life and love. Their melodies: three-part catchy tunes. The rhythm: leaves you at least tapping your feet. And the beards: the trademark of the band fronted by Swiss musician Andre Manella.

Well then, spread the towel! Song into the Boombox! Relax! And you'll discover that Turkey The Bird are Switzerland's answer to Simon & Garfunkel.

Jenny Banai - Couchwalker (Album).

This album was a hard one for me to write. I felt uncomfortable often, stretched, if you will, lingering in the in-between.

I don’t know if there has been a more honest and weak time in my life than now (but I only say that now) and I believe in the importance of sharing, in equal parts, both the consolation and desolation of this strange and beautiful tent I walk around in.

Jenny Banai is an old soul and a child of the nineties, and as such, has inherited both the contemplative wonder and the wardrobe of her parents. She is a fresh and authentic voice who pairs powerhouse vocal abilities with unique and clever pop arrangements.

She blends jazz, folk, and rock into sophisticated pop music that both celebrates and laments the dynamic of human relationships and the relationship with one’s self.

Elana Stone - Permanent Limbo.

Following the success of her single release, Elana Stone returns today with a charming and colourful animated video clip for 'Permanent Limbo'.

Created by a Melbourne artist Luna Tunes, the video premiered earlier this week via Music Feeds. Fun and explorative in nature, the video clip cleverly depicts the narrative of the intertwining of human relationships, and more specifically how we relate through technology.

When explaining the vision of her video Elana explains she was "In the midst of recording the song I had an idea for an accompanying music video. It was essentially about the merging of humans and technology - the many pitfalls and wonders of this emerging industry.

I decided to reach out to a Melbourne based artist that I came across who made beautiful caricatures of robots and cats and dogs for AIME - the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience. We set about bringing his beautiful colourful robot characters to life. The story shifted again and the result is an incredibly optimistic depiction of robots steadily gaining intelligence, personality and enlightenment."
