Sterre Weldring - Vision Video - Abby Sage - SPECTRA*Paris

Sterre Weldring - The Best.

Yesterday singer-songwriter Sterre Weldring released her new single 'The Best'. Sterre Weldring's new release is a special one: for the first time, she's releasing a cover of "The Best," a song originally by Nashville-based artist Josiah and the Bonnevilles. Encouraged by none other than Josiah, Sterre decided to record an acoustic version of 'The Best', one of her favorite songs. "'The Best' is a sad and melancholic song, but will most of all bring comfort to those who recognise themselves in its story" says the artist.

Sterre Weldring is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Amsterdam. Her music can be described as 'melancholic indie-pop', a genre in which she writes songs about all kinds of love and relationships, with the  aim of comforting others.

Her passion for this music started around the age of 15, when she discovered British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg and experienced how much comfort she could get from music herself. At the age of 18, Sterre therefore decided to study in Brighton at the BIMM (British Institute of Modern Music). One of her other idols, James Bay, had attended the same school. She developed her own sound within Brighton's vibrant music scene. A comparison with Amy Macdonald and Florence + The Machine is often drawn.

Back in the Netherlands, Sterre settled in Amsterdam where she studied philosophy. A study that taught her to look at life in a reflective way, something that is also reflected in her songs. The search for answers has a therapeutic and comforting effect, both for herself and for her audience. It has already brought her to the Popronde and the final of the Grand Prix of the Netherlands in 2019. Last year she released her debut EP 'Lost Lights'.

Vision Video - Beautiful Day To Die.

Athens, Georgia based Vision Video return now with “Beautiful Day To Die,” a remarkably vibrant single from the post-punk/gothic quartet, through which they announce their sophomore album, Haunted Hours, for an October 11 release. The band premiered a video for the track via Post-Punk, and they head out across the Eastern half of the U.S. starting tomorrow night in Nashville [all dates below]. Watch + share the video via YouTube. Pre-order Haunted Hours here.

Led by songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Dusty Gannon, who served two tours of Afghanistan in the Army before becoming an EMT with the Atlanta Fire Department, channels these experiences of the horror of war and trauma into his music. Discussing “Beautiful Day To Die” he noted, “I wrote this track about my experiences as a paramedic and firefighter seeing a lot of death first hand, and how you become well acquainted with it in a very surreal, yet comfortable way.

It’s about how I had to become friends with the concept of mortality because I was around it so regularly. The shock of seeing bodies becomes more pedestrian, and you’re even able to see beauty in some situations; like when families come together over loss, or the stories people will tell you about the deceased.

This song is about celebrating the frailty of life. We do not get to decide how, or when we will die, but it is all the while certain. While that can be somewhat existential-dread inducing, I like to think of it as a clarion call to appreciate what time we are afforded.”

Abby Sage - Pool Party.

LA /London based alt-pop artist Abby Sage shares her new intimate and thought-provoking single “Pool Party,”accompanied by an experimental music video directed by Aidan Dick. The visuals exemplify how often young adults must hide behind an invisible mask to get through the day-to- day runnin' around that no one prepared them for. Both honest and utterly relatable, Abby Sage arrives with a new perspective on the contemporary world, for better or worse.

“Pool Party” was written during a writing trip to London and produced by British producer duo MyRiot (London  Grammar,  AURORA,  Halsey). On her  latest  effort, Abby  Sage  offers up a hazy  alt-pop world that ties together nostalgia and the uncertain future. Sage has always had a knack for clever songwriting  that touches upon wistfulness and  modern malaise and “Pool Party” is a shining example. The production contains many sonic layers hoisted by her mesmeric vocals and intricate alt-pop  infused  guitar  strumming.  In  addition, mild  drum  beats  and  fuzzy  bass  lines embody the temple of the track. “Pool Party” follows the release of her dreamy effort “Force of Habit,”released this past spring and serves as the first glimpse into her forthcoming project out later this year.

Speaking about her new single, Abby Sage shares this: “Pool Party is a metaphor for kids not being prepared for the world. ‘Pool party kids can’t swim they ask nobody just sink to the bottom and think (off the deep end).’ Kids are dealt a tough hand, having such a vast amount of information at their fingertips with nobody to guide them or explain what it all means. They have to drown to learn.”

SPECTRA*Paris - Indigo Cypher.

Enigmatic Italian singer Elena Alice Fossi has released the next fascinating single, 'Indigo Cypher', which is taken from the forthcoming new full-length of her dark electro project SPECTRA*Paris. The fifth album of that band is entitled "Modernism" and has been scheduled for release on August 26.

SPECTRA*Paris comment: "Memories of a life that does not belong to you…", singer, composer, and lyricist Elena Alice Fossi muses. " If you don't feel at least a bit like a fish out of water in this grotesque theater that is humanity, then this song is not for you! We were born in deception and there we stay until we realise that real life is running elsewhere. 'They' shape us in order that we make our own lives and that of others worse. 'They' mold us to obey slaves and to become slaves ourselves. 'They' shape us so as to love our family even when it has nothing to do with us."

Charismatic, enigmatic, and absolutely outstanding, singer Elena Alice Fossi, who is best known for her work with Italian electro-trailblazers KIRLIAN CAMERA, presents "Modernism", the fifth album of her eclectic project SPECTRA*Paris.

"Modernism" is transfiguring electronic music through the prism of Elena’s voice and several collaborations with other musicians into a beautiful kaleidoscope of stylistic colours ranging from EBM, future pop, dark electronic, art pop, and various influences more.

The Money War - Sterre Weldring - Polar Klub - ModernFolkRevolution - Starlite Campbell Band

The Money War - Blood (E.P).

Rounding out a monumental 2021 with their distinctive graceful tenacity is WA indie pop/ rock duo The Money War with the highly-anticipated unveiling of their latest EP ‘Blood’ today November 5. Delivering elegant pop pureness that beats with the steely resolve of an indie-rock heart, Dylan and Carmen Ollivierre of The Money War approach their craft with unwavering sincerity, recounting intricate experiences through gorgeous melodies and elegant production.

Recorded at their studio where it was produced and mixed by Dylan, ‘Blood’ is about connection, exploring the binding ties of family, partners, even strangers, while showcasing the pair’s songwriting depth and refined sonic execution. The duo explain:

“The EP is a collection of songs that bookmark 2021 for us. We’re always writing, but these were the 5 songs that rose to the top and we felt that we needed to record.” Opening in a bittersweet flourish of nostalgic grace is title-track ‘Blood’, written about the complexity of family relationships and bloodlines, the contrast between the jovial strum of the guitar and the melancholic press of the keys a reminder of the reality of changing lives.

Next, ‘Miles Away’ begins its euphonious journey through golden saxophone solos and Carmen’s velvety vocals, the track’s transcendent melancholy spreading the disheartening feeling of being emotionally disconnected from somebody close to you. The EP’s centrepiece ‘Lost in the Rhythm’ arrives as a dreamy dance track, using gripping instrumental layerings and pulsing percussion to produce an addictive cadence as Dylan's warm, heartfelt vocals take the lead, delivering the track's introspective lyrical exploration of overcoming anxiety with a self-assured strength.

‘Zoom’ follows in a romantic cloud of longing, as gentle guitar, delicate vocals and a distance-crossing chorus weave a vulnerable tale of living through a long-distance relationship during a pandemic. Closing out the EP is ‘Man at the Station’ featuring warming indie-folk beats, cosy acoustic guitars, drifting violins and Dylan’s wholesome vocals to take us on a romantic late-night journey with a carriage full of strangers that become a little less so by the song’s end.

Sterre Weldring - Turn Around / I'm Gone.

After the succesful singles 'Not With Me' and 'Remedy', Sterre Weldring will now release her debut EP 'Lost Lights'. Sterre Weldring’s debut EP is full of songs about lost but beautiful souls. People who haven’t really found their way in life yet but are trying to do better, hence the metaphor ‘Lost Lights’. Being lost can cause hurt to yourself or to others, but as these songs point out, can also teach you valuable lessons as there’s often a beauty, a rawness, hiding behind that kind of pain. Sterre reflects on this and on herself and concludes that after all the pain is relevant, as we can learn and grow from it, to evolve into a light that eventually isn’t lost.

At the age of 16, Sterre Weldring was still a bit young for the conservatory, but she made a very mature decision: she started studying songwriting at BIMM (Brighton Institute of Modern Music). In between studies, she completely immersed herself in Brighton's rich music scene. While jamming, and playing live, she quickly developed her own sound, which she describes as folk-pop. In concrete terms, this means that her songs have a pop structure, on which she puts a folk stamp on with her characteristic voice. Amy Macdonald is a common comparison.

After a successful 2019, including a place in the final of the 'Grote Prijs van Nederland' and a tour through the country during 'Popronde', the Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter is now releasing her new single. This song is part of her new EP, which will be released today November 5th.

Polar Klub - I Feel It Too.

Singer and guitarist Lukas Heer plucks the best strings of self-irony: a musician who prefers to run away than to dance, writes music to which you have to stay.

In rhythm, in motion, in mood.

With his project Polar Klub, he takes us on a journey through the 60s, 70s and 80s, drawing on the genres of psych-rock, post-punk and dream pop for his beats and riffs.

For the new track "I Feel It Too", the Glarus-based musician has again conjured a wonderfully cranky sound - completely in DIY feeling.

ModernFolkRevolution - ModernFolkRevolution (Album).

You may not immediately recognize the name Lonnie James, but if you’re familiar at all with the Canadian indie rock scene of the 1990s, he was a ubiquitous presence, playing drums for a seemingly endless array of artists and significantly contributing to the most vibrant and influential period of Canadian rock and roll.

After a lengthy hiatus, and back home near Calgary, Lonnie James has now returned with a new project dubbed ModernFolkRevolution, whose self-titled debut album was released on Oct. 22. Its 10 tracks are, on one hand, a throwback to more innocent pre-Internet days, and on the other hand are a reminder that an organic approach to making music still packs an emotional punch.

As a band, ModernFolkRevolution presents James’s songs in all their rough-hewn glory, recalling the lo-fi majesty of The Vaselines and Guided By Voices, coupled with Byrds and Kinks-style paisley-tinged flourishes. However the album might be classified, ModernFolkRevolution is a pure reflection of Lonnie James’s life—and life in music—after more than three decades. More importantly, it’s the sound of an artist finding a previously untapped well of creativity and using it to sow the seeds of future endeavours. Indeed, the ModernFolkRevolution’s time has come.

Starlite Campbell Band - The Language of Curiosity (Album).

Renowned for their distinctive songwriting, unique sound with beautifully produced recordings, onstage chemistry and electrifying live shows, European and British blues award nominees the Starlite Campbell Band are Suzy Starlite and Simon Campbell who fell in love on stage and married following a whirlwind musical romance. Musically it's he classic sound of British blues and rock from the 60s and 70s, with some trips down sidestreets and byways - that they promise. Do they deliver on their album The Language of Curiosity?

Here's what "Blues Enthused" has to say about it: "Simon Campbell seems like a walking encyclopaedia of classic British axe heroes.  But overall his guitar sound is his own, and it’s remarkable that he eschews effects pedals in search of it.  Just as importantly though, The Language Of Curiosity is about well-constructed songs, about infectious melodies and worthwhile words, and the couple’s co-writing fulfils those ambitions with a bit of flair.  The Starlite Campbell Band’s bonkers devotion to their musical muse has produced another crop of goodies."

And Hugh Fielder at "Classic Rock" thinks that  “The Starlite Campbell Band have a fresh take on 60s and 70s British R&B, a clean sound and an enthusiastic approach that gives their second album “The Language of Curiosity an immediate appeal!”

Wild The Coyote - Hannah Georgas - Sterre Weldring

Wild The Coyote - Silver Round Bullet.

The supremely talented Wild the Coyote has now released his newest single, “Silver Round Bullet.” The song is the first from his upcoming EP, 7 Roses. Following his previous releases, this track continues with Coyote’s unique, gritty style and delivers an electrifying listening experience. “Silver Round Bullet” is available now to stream or download on all platforms.

“Silver Round Bullet” is a fantastic reflection of Wild the Coyote’s riveting, original sound. With grungy guitar and vocals melded with rumbling percussion, this track successfully captures the outlaw country style his music listeners have come to expect. Combining iconic aspects of blues, country, and rock, Coyote skillfully makes listeners feel as though they have been teleported to the old west. Produced by Joseph Holiday, the song has a powerful and catchy melody that gives clear insight into why some have drawn comparisons between Wild the Coyote and the great Johnny Cash.

With an edgier tone than most modern country music, “Silver Round Bullet” conveys Coyote’s difficulties growing up in Templeton, CA and the struggles he faces even now in Los Angeles. “‘Silver Round Bullet’ was written in the woods of the quiet town I grew up in, about the struggles that come with chasing a dream in LA and the daunting question of how long you can survive doing it. Only to be reminded that there could be more to risk than to reap turning around on the road less traveled,” says Coyote. The blend of his bluesy voice with heavy percussion and a rugged electric guitar melody conveys a raw, rocky vibe that characterizes the song.

Hannah Georgas - Punching Bag (Acoustic).

Last September, Hannah Georgas released her Aaron Dessner-produced LP All That Emotion, on Dessner's label Brassland and Toronto indie stalwart Arts & Crafts. Though long a favorite in her native Canada with a devoted international audience, the album was the most critically-acclaimed release of her career to date, earning a wave of positive attention.

In the spring of 2021 she released an EP of alternate versions of tracks from the album, featuring contributions from friends and collaborators like Bartees Strange, Owen Pallett, The National's Matt Berninger and Kate Stables (leader of acclaimed UK group This Is The Kit), and today Georgas is returning to release a new collection that takes a different approach, a mini album of acoustic versions of songs from the LP.

Georgas' piano and vocals were recorded with Graham Walsh at Palace Sound in Toronto, but these new iterations are not solo performances, as Georgas is accompanied remotely by guitarist Christine Bougie and cellist Ben Whiteley, both of whom played on the recent LP from Georgas' fellow Torontonian The Weather Station, with additional strings from Drew Jureka (Dua Lipa, Bahamas). Though not entirely "stripped down," Georgas sees the mini album as representative of the new life the songs from the LP have taken on as she has performed them in various contexts since recording them with Dessner in 2019.

Scenes - Lady Dan - Wyndow - Seafoam Green - Sterre Weldring - Hunter Moreau - Shadow Monster

Scenes - Henhouse feat. Ainslie Wills.

Brisbane songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Scenes made his debut last month with his dynamic new single 'Henhouse' featuring Ainslie Wills. Today he shares his moody video clip alongside the announcement of his debut EP releasing later this year.

Scenes is the solo project of Graham Ritchie, self-produced and recorded, Scenes’ debut single flourishes with drum loops and reverberant analogue synths that swell around the distinct vocals of Melbourne artist Ainslie Wills. The track also features Ryan Strathie on drums (Holy Holy, Andy Bull, Olympia) and was mixed by Jake Miller (Bjork, Aurora).

"In the verses, Ainslie’s lower register captures and draws you in, and then soars over the driving chorus instrumentation. Layers of saturated vocal delays colour the chant-like phrases which contain fragments of self-talk," explains Graham.

The video shot and produced in his hometown of Brisbane by director Matthew Howard sees two young adults walking home and in their bedrooms, both experiencing moments of introspection and catharsis. "'Don’t let the fox guard the Henhouse’… it’s about our minds. Our fragility and limitations. But there’s also a commitment to hope and progress," Graham continues.

Since the song released it has already received high praise from triple j as well as additions to popular Spotify playlists 'Indie Arrivals' and 'Broad Chords' as well as placement on international Apple Music playlists' 'New In Indie'. Over his career, Graham has collaborated and toured with artists including Big Scary, Japanese Wallpaper, Emma Louise, Airling, Thelma Plum and Gretta Ray.

Already preparing more singles and a debut EP, don't wait any longer as his music engulfs you and takes you on a musical journey.

Lady Dan - Misandrist To Most.

Lady Dan has shared her new track "Misandrist to Most" – it's the final piece to be released ahead of her debut album, I Am the Prophet which is out via Earth Libraries on April 23.

It's a real highlight for me on the album, following in the wake of NPR, Stereogum, GoldFlakePaint, FLOOD and Line of Best Fit-tipped tracks, this time addressing the patriarchal systems that dictated Tyler Dozier's (real name behind the Lady Dan moniker) life previously. There are some glorious examples of slide guitar here as well as off-kilter percussion and Tyler's mesmerising voice which has found comparisons so far to Sharon Van Etten and Julia Jacklin.

As a full piece, I Am the Prophet dives into some deeply personal content for Dozier, in a sense tackling lots of the pressure and symbols of authority that she has come up against in her life. Initially hailing from Dothan, Alabama, Tyler grew up in a strictly religious environment, moving to Birmingham, Alabama in her teens to attend a ministry school which was when she began to question the role of the Church in her life.

It was an amalgamation of the Church and a controlling relationship that birthed the crux of I Am the Prophet – a celebration of sorts about ridding the patriarchal restraints that refused her growth, as well as being a frustrated kick at those who've always said she couldn't in life. Each track poses a new narrative, arriving as multilayered existential quandaries of empowerment and restriction, of life and death, or of faith and its absence.

Wyndow - Two Strong Legs.

Wyndow is the psychedelic-pop project of revered singer-songwriters Lavinia Blackwall and Laura J Martin. The duo recently announced their collaboration via the sharing of their debut single ‘Take My Picture’ which has already earned support from the likes of The Quietus, For The Rabbits, BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland & BBC Radio Wales. The pair first met whilst playing on the same bill at Moseley Folk Festival in Birmingham and hit it off instantly over a shared love of the music of Robert Wyatt. Over the years that followed, their paths crossed several more times and eventually the pair began working on a new set of songs together during the first UK lockdown, beginning with a cover of Robert Wyatt’s ‘Free Will and Testament’.

New single, ‘Two Strong Legs’, reflects on those days when nothing quite sits right. When the outside world feels a step too far and thoughts strain to make sense. "If the dog looks like a rabbit and the front door's a step beyond, this is your song” explains Laura. “It's a tune for whacked out worriers lifting weights in the worry gym. Feeling uneasy never felt so easy". Mining the textures of chamber pop string arrangements, topped with arresting multi part vocal performances and with Neuköln synth atmospheres creeping at the edges, Wyndow bring a lysergic dimension to every day internal mind games.

The accompanying video was directed by Jess Swainson. The video plays with the natural elements of snow, wind and water and the malleable fibres of flesh filtered through influences from early eastern european cinema. Innervisions of the natural turned into the unreal abound, mirroring the muddled thoughts referenced in the lyrics and the shifting textures of the sonics.

Wyndow’s new sound is an exciting next step for the duo, both of whom have enjoyed abundant success in their careers to date. Laura J Martin has so far released three critically acclaimed albums. A mercurial and bewitching live performer who interweaves layers of vocals, flute, mandolin and electronics; Laura and her band have toured regularly across the UK and Europe and supported acts such as PJ Harvey, Teenage Fanclub, Cate Le Bon and performed and collaborated extensively with Euros Childs. Lavinia Blackwall’s work with prolific Glaswegian psych-folk outfit Trembling Bells has earnt her a reputation as one of the best voices in the scene, many critics having likened her singing prowess to that of Sandy Denny. Along with Trembling Bells she has released seven full-length albums and performed as the backing band to folk legends Bonnie Prince Billy and The Incredible String Band’s Mike Herron. Her 2020 debut solo album ‘Muggington Lane End’ was extremely well received by critics and fans alike.

Seafoam Green - House on The Hill.

‘House on The Hill’ is the first single from Seafoam Green’s forthcoming album ‘Martins Garden’. This hard-hitting, good-times rock’n’roll song is an arresting statement on where the band are going, ahead of their eagerly anticipated album, due for release later this year.

Seafoam Green’s upcoming long player - ‘Martin’s Garden’ - is the band's second studio record.  Their debut was a collaboration with Rich Robinson, of the Black Crowes.  Once again, Seafoam Green are collaborating with the artists residing in their own record collections - inspirations steeped in the culture of the Southern States. How do two Irish rock n’ rollers go from talking about the music they love, to playing with the musicians who made it?  It all comes down to the songs they are writing.

Tyler Greenwell - founding member of Grammy Award winning Tedeschi Trucks Band - got wind of Seafoam Green preparing to make their next record, and made it known that he wanted to be involved. It wasn’t long before Seafoam Green were out recording with some of the gnarliest players in the world during a symbiotic week in Atlanta, USA. Dave O’ Grady and Muireann McDermott Long specialise in what we have come to know as Americana. If you want earthy, rootsy, blues, gospel, country, folk, they have it, but what it amalgamates to at this level which has been perfected across two albums and countless live shows is the sound of a glorious rock n’ soul revival.

‘House on the Hill’ is a howitzer of a song and offers early indication of what can be expected from a seminal record with the thumbprints of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s influence on the producer’s console and wider reaching fusion metastasized as two richly embedded cultures collide, namely Irish folk and Southern rock, with TTB’s Greenwell on drums, Seafoam’s O’Grady playing slide for the first time on a record, and topped by the inimitable trademark vocal intercourse between O’Grady and McDermott Long. This is future soul rebel music and bodes well for the full experience of ‘Martin’s Garden’, an album that’s not to be missed.

Seafoam Green’s inimitable collision of Irish Roots and Southern American rock and soul is a unique take on a classic sound. As our two heroes implore on this track, “You don’t need keys for the house on the hill”. Come on in, and make yourselves at home.

Sterre Weldring - Not With Me.

The video clip of Sterre Weldring's latest single ‘Not With Me’ has just been released. ‘Not With Me’ was already well received and made it to Spotify's New Music Friday. For the video clip Sterre set out on the Amsterdam canals.

Sterre Weldring explains: “The video clip of ‘Not With Me’ is the representation of a situation in which there is no real communication between Sterre and her counterpart, who is never in focus. They go past each other and the result is the realization that he was never really there, ‘not with me’. "

The search for answers, some of which will never be found, plays an important role in Sterre Weldring's lyrics. By describing love and relationships in her songs, she hopes to be able to offer comfort to others who embark on a similar quest. Her previous singles had the same goal and it was recognized by streaming platforms around the world. With major playlists in Mexico and Spain on Spotify, she reached a new fan base.

This song is part of her new EP, which will be released later this year.

Hunter Moreau - Hazy.

Through her music, rising pop songstress Hunter Moreau frequently steps outside of her comfort zone to express the most vulnerable parts of herself, captivating listeners along the way. Her latest single, "Hazy," is no exception.

Produced by Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Ashe, SHAED), "Hazy" officially dropped on March 12. Now Moreau is releasing the official music video for “Hazy.”

“I wanted the video to feel like a warm, breezy, summer's day that causes all of your worries to subside for even just a moment,” shares Moreau.

“I wanted to capture the soft light of summer afternoons, and the hazy hue that comes along with it. We shot the video at Betty's Neck in Lakeville, Massachusetts, which is this enormous, beautiful park near where I live.”

Directed by Mac Lynch, a Rhode Island based photographer, videographer and mixed media artist, the video for “Hazy” is out now.

Shadow Monster - Kill Me Sweetie.

Shadow Monster is an angsty and loud two-piece from Bushwick, Brooklyn. Gillian Visco’s gritty, dissonant and desperate guitar riffs meet with John Swanson’s epic and explosive drumming style to form a raw and moody version of grunge rock.

Lyrically, Shadow Monster explores themes of loss, depression and isolation. If you're into Elliott Smith, Weakened Friends, Helium, and Kills Birds, your ears are going to love Shadow Monster. Their new video "Kill Me Sweetie," is the final release from their LP "Punching Bag," which is an artful masterpiece from start to finish.

Shadow Monsters sound is vibrant, captivating and bold as they bring a vision to the table that is truly their own. It's hypnotic and smooth, yet raw, vibrant and dark. They bring the best of all worlds. The video perfectly encapsulates the essence of the duo, and goes above and beyond to impress your ears.
