Kate Kelly - Sophie Morgan - Lewin - The Stick Arounds

Kate Kelly has just released 'Quiet as a Mouse' accompanied by a video, the song itself is a gentle, melodic and quite personal indie folk piece. === Sophie Morgan makes a welcome return to Beehive Candy with 'Bar To Bar' following on from 'Marmalade' and again her alt folk is simply beautiful. === Lewin shares 'Sorrow' the third single ahead of her debut album. This is a gorgeous track from the singer-songwriter, the story around it (see below) makes it even more poignant. === The Stick Arounds recently released 'The Singles Club' album from which we have 'Connection' which typifies the quality and refreshing multi genre rock the band deliver.

Kate Kelly - Quiet as a Mouse

Following up on her promising debut LP The Wonder of It All, Nashville-based artist Kate Kelly is back with "Quiet as a Mouse", a heartfelt new single that reveals another side of her artistry. With her two previous records, New Heartbeat EP in 2016 and The Wonder of it All in 2018 greatly influenced by jazz and soul music, "Quiet as a Mouse" marks a shift in her musical direction. Inspired by artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Feist and early-career Ingrid Michaelson, Kate Kelly is now exploring a more indie-folk, ambient sound. Her new track could be the artist’s most personal and vulnerable song to date.

"I wrote ‘Quiet as a Mouse’ several years ago as I explored feelings of abandonment after a breakup. It was an all-consuming emotion, one that I felt in my body and in the passing of time. This song became important to write as I learned how much of myself could be regained through being left alone. It is an exploration of being left, leaving, and saying goodbye. There is strength in our endings if we honor the pain" confides Kelly.

The singer-songwriter teamed up with New-Orleans based visual artist Virginia Walcott to create a simple yet powerful black and white music video that adds another layer to the meaning of the track.

"The pain of feeling detached or unwanted in the presence of someone who once felt like home can be paralyzing. For this reason, it seemed obvious to us that the video needed to first create feelings of discomfort, rawness, disillusionment, and fear. But the song doesn’t just address the difficulties of leaving and being left — it takes you on a journey through what it feels like to fall and then rise, embracing a new beginning. There is a turn at the end of the video that sheds light on the joy, freedom, and renewal that exists if you truly move through your pain. You can find that home is not just another person, place, or feeling — it’s also yourself" explains Virginia Walcott.

Sophie Morgan - Bar To Bar.

Sophie Morgan has announced new single Bar to Bar, which is out now and taken from her Marmalade EP out on 20th March.

Singer-songwriter Sophie Morgan has established a loyal following for her gloriously spellbinding alternative folk sound over the past few years, through the release of two EPs Sons & Daughters and Annie and stand-out tracks Above You and Hey Annie. Over the past year, Sophie has been refining her sound and her new 4-track EP Marmalade was produced at Urchin Studios in London with Matt Ingham (Laura Marling) and features co-writes with Benjamin Francis Leftwich and long-term collaborator Simon Jones (The Verve).

New single Bar to Bar follows recent release Marmalade and is an emotive track, which opens delicately before building to a gloriously upbeat chorus that showcases Sophie’s honeyed vocal perfectly. The track also features vocals from Archie Faulks, who co-wrote the track with Sophie. She says;

"Bar to Bar was the last song written for the EP, right before we were booked to begin recording. All the songs had already been decided but then this came around the corner and we couldn't ignore it. The song is reminiscing on being fourteen and beginning my musical adventures; meeting an older bartender, writing, recording, gigging across the town and falling in and out of love along the way. It was written with the wonderful Archie Faulks who lends his velvety voice to the recording and also stars in the music video."

Born and raised in Cheshire, 22-year-old Sophie began playing piano and songwriting at an early age, after being brought up on a musical education of Nick Drake and Van Morrison and later introduced to Joni Mitchell and Carole King. The influence of her father’s record collection led to recent covers of The Waterboy’s The Whole Of The Moon and The National’s Bloodbuzz Ohio, which is accompanied by a video inspired by the original.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lewin - Sorrow.

Lewin is the fresh musical leaf that has been turned by songwriter and musician Jara Holdert. ‘Sorrow’, the third single off Lewin’s upcoming debut album, is the most prophetic of all her tunes of goodbye. A song written while still in a relationship with her love, muse and producer Aaron Ahrends - In ‘Sorrow’ Lewin imagines exactly how her love might leave her; the small signs that point to a slow detachment, then the moving van in the parking lot, and the final scene where he’s gone, only the memory of him left.

Ironically, a year after she wrote the song, it happened exactly like she’d predicted. He moved away to Berlin without much of a warning, and it was a first step in the disintegration of their relationship. She had known it would hurt - in her lyrics, she pleaded to a personified Sorrow to try and be tender with her heart.

Half a year before the break-up, the track was recorded as one live take, to which some organ and backing vocals were added afterwards. It needed to be this way, organic and without a click-track, as Lewin lets her timing follow her story-telling, bringing her band into an emotional dynamic that slowly crescendoes to the refrain. As such, the recording captures the full arc of an musical journey and possesses the raw energy of a live performance.

Only much later did they discover that they had been filmed while playing; Aaron, the man himself, had started filming when they recorded the take. This makes for a very special document; an intimate insight into the recording process, the studio atmosphere and the focus of Lewin and her band around her. But, like in love, he disengaged before she did; Aaron puts the camera down while she’s still singing. We switch to images of a landscape flitting by; footage taken from the train to Berlin.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Stick Arounds - Connection.

After the release of their sophomore album ‘Ways To Hang On', The Stick Arounds found themselves with a few extra songs, and some more ideas, not to mention a hankering to continue the recording process with which they had started to find their stride. So what did they do? A single a month for all of 2019, of course! Thus the Hot Singles Club was born.

Twelve months (and 12 songs) later (seven new tunes, three covers, and studio versions of two songs from the band's live debut LP 'Mystery Garage'), they found themselves with a collection that would make a nice little LP. The resulting album highlights the band’s penchant for melody, three part harmony and crunchy guitars. There are sonic nods to Teenage Fanclub, Sloan, Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo and The Jayhawks, but with an authenticity that could only be The Stick Arounds.

Oh, you'll also find a chimey power-pop spin on a Tom T. Hall classic, a gritty Cheap Trick number and a resurrected Beulah classic. Good stuff.

In short, “Hot Singles Club” is a snapshot of a band at the top of their game that also provides a peek at the record collection that made them what they are today.

Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes - Sobranie 8 18 - Lauran Hibberd - Sophie Morgan - Lev Snowe - Siobhán O'Brien

Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes have released the new single 'Forever' a few weeks ahead of their 'Sweetie' album release. Comprising of twelve tracks the album is awash with great indie songs, we have already featured 'Moon' and 'Change Of Heart' and I have to say the rest are at the least on a par with these three tracks, it's an album to look out for! === Russian based duo Sobranie 8 18 have just released the dramatic and imaginative song 'Angels Fight', a genre defying and play again piece. === Since coming into our world in August 2017 Lauran Hibberd has become a firm favourite of Beehive Candy and the new single 'BANG BANG BANG' only confirms even more that the attention she has gained has been earned through delivering fabulous music. === It's been a while since we last featured Sophie Morgan however she has returned with the gentle, melodic and beautiful new song 'Marmalade' accompanied by a wonderfully matched video. === Lev Snowe has released an E.P. entitled 'Someday Soon' and although the Canadian artist music is broadly described as dream pop, he manages to add a layer or two of experimental and creative elements to some songs that add so much more to the material. === Ahead of her new album, fourth generation Irish musician Siobhán O'Brien has a new single 'The Kings Fool'. This song is no traditional Irish affair, in fact it's more Americana with some rock vibes, whatever the case it's crammed full of enticing hooks.

Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes - Forever.

Behind the odd name Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes you’ll find one of the most promising bands on the Scandinavian indie scene. The band are now set to release their highly anticipated debut album 'Sweetie' on February 14th and will tour both Scandinavia and UK to coincide with it. Today, new single 'Forever' is released via Rama Lama Records.

The band - consisting of Siri Sjöberg, Tilde Hansen, Elias Mahfoud and Edvin Arleskär - formed in 2015 after bassist/vocalist Tilde tweeted out "Does anyone/anybody know someone who wants to play in a band together with a bassist and a singer that haven’t played in a band for a year and are dying of boredom?". Debut single Desire was released early 2016 and was followed by three more singles 2016-17, all receiving attention from both Sweden’s biggest music sites and influential international sources such as DIY, Billboard and CLASH - all hailing their dynamic and dreamy indie pop that constantly have been developing during the band's career.

The band made their festival debut at Umeå Open in 2017, a show which Swedish magazine HYMN hailed the show as "the festival's most energetic". Debut EP Four Waters with four brand new tracks was released on November 24th 2017, being described as “an illustration of the sonic genius of the little band with the great name, who in less than a year continue to leave us speechless with their music” by The Revue. After following their debut EP with two packed London shows and their biggest Stockholm show to this day, the band took some time off to write new material. In 2019, the quartet returned better than ever with the shimmering new tracks Change of Heart and Moon which is now followed by Forever, all taken from Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes' long-awaited and just announced debut album Sweetie that will be released on February 14th via Rama Lama Records both digitally and on crystal transparent vinyl - pre-order here.

Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes on the album: "It feels impossible to not portray the future. The album is a concoction of stories from our lives - what it means to be young today, with the challenges and dreams we have ahead of us. The songs are collections and fragments of thoughts about our future, what we can, should and want to do. We have written simple and we have written challenging. And we have finally landed in a collection of songs that formed our album. Our first. Sweetie."

Sobranie 8 18 - Angels Fight.

Sobranie 8 18 is a union of two unique artists, Nastya and Kirill, who share personal and artistic interests - though based in Russia, they could just as easily have created their music on the surface of Jupiter, so strangely unearthly is their sound.

Formed in 2015, their early releases offered only a tantalising glimpse at their current prowess, the low-fi pop sound morphing into their current world of dark electronic whispers and ultraviolet screams. Their forthcoming self-titled album features ten tracks of transcendental melody; avant garde experimentation; retro pop and eternal truths – it is released on 3rd February 2020.

Sobranie in Russian means “meet together”, an appropriate word for the coming together of music, verse and minds of Nastya and Kirill, the masterminds behind Sobranie 8 18. Following in the wake of Sobranie 7 17 a now extinct dark electronics project and alongside Nastya’s solo project, Sobranie 9 19, Sobranie 8 18 has become the main effort of the duo. The figures 7 and 17 are sacred numbers - the other figures represent the artist’s intuitive associations with the variety of music genres. Influenced by dark techno, new euro pop, field recordings and experimental sounds, Sobranie 8 18 is the clearest manifestation of their musical manifesto.

Lauran Hibberd - BANG BANG BANG.

Positioning herself at the forefront of the emerging indie landscape, slacker pop queen Lauran Hibberd kicks off 2020 with pulsating new single ‘Bang Bang Bang’, set to drop January 17th. Primed to capitalise on a whirlwind twelve months, the hotly-tipped Isle Of Wight native delves further into her indie rock cannon, producing her boldest release to date in ‘Bang Bang Bang’, a charisma-fuelled, sing-along-inducing anthem designed for bigger audiences and bigger stages.

With relentless acclaim across the BBC Radio 1 airwaves (Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders) and loyal support amongst key tastemakers The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Dork and Gigwise, the newcomer’s amplified potential has certainly ramped up expectations, sparking comparisons to contemporaries including Phoebe Bridgers and Weezer.

Having spent the majority of 2019 on the road, notching up extensive UK/EU support tours alongside US heavyweights Hippo Campus and The Regrettes, in addition to her debut appearance on Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing stage, Hibberd’s dazzling live show continues to woo audiences, and with a second UK headline tour lined up next month, her remarkable rise shows no sign of slowing anytime soon.

Discussing her first release of the year, Hibberd explained: “‘Bang Bang Bang’ is my ode to the teenage girl. It’s built for the prom scene in ’10 Things I Hate About You’. It’s the cycle of going back to the same person even when you know you shouldn’t and I guess the fallout of all of that”. Produced by Boe Weaver and mastered by Vlado Meller (Weezer, Rage Against The Machine, Oasis), Lauran Hibberd’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’ is out January 17th and will be available via all digital platforms.

Sophie Morgan - Marmalade.

Sophie Morgan has announced brand new single Marmalade, which is out now and taken from the EP of the same name out on 20th March.

New single Marmalade is the first introduction to Sophie’s forthcoming EP of the same name and it immediately transports you forwards to summer, with the aura of idyllic romance setting a vivid scene with delicate guitars, tender lyrics and Sophie’s warm honey-soaked vocal. It’s a song to make you pause, curl up and take in every word. The video is filmed in Provence in the South of France and echoes the meaning behind the song perfectly. She says;

"Marmalade is a romantic dream of this sumptuous life like you see in the old films. The title came from, when I think of luxury, I think of those little pots of jam and marmalade you get in fancy hotel breakfasts. Every time I sing the song, I imagine a big old house in the South of France with an abundance of fruit and pastries and wine. So, we flew to Provence to shoot the video and a handsome French neighbour named Vincent drove me around the village in his cool old orange Renault."

Following shows in Cheshire and London and support dates across the UK and Europe with The Waterboys, Sophie has announced a headline show at Liverpool’s LEAF on Thursday 9th April and will be announcing further live dates soon.

Lev Snowe - Someday Soon (E.P).

Canadian dreampop artist Lev Snowe shares his sophomore EP Someday Soon. Through lush, hazy production that emerged from the confines of limited technology, Lev's voice swirls in and out of focus creating a surreal, dreamlike state for the listener. His lyrics are a foreign fantasy about needing to travel beyond his home in order to find traces of the next him as he juggles with memories that pull him backwards.

Lev Snowe on Someday Soon: "The whole EP is my study on how I evaluated time in the past and the new idea of living 'for the moment' that resulted. It was the summer of 2018, and as I had localized the mad freedom to live & experience, I in turn took a look through my past writing and inspired a creation to abolish all old insecurities. 'Someday Soon' is meant to cut to the chase — as if saying 'forget where you've been, you are done with it. It is time to be boldly you — the very person that songwriting has helped you discover!"

Lev Snowe spends his days tinkering away in his bedroom studio building up his psychedelic Xanadu. Raised on the warm hiss of '70s soul jazz recordings, the slack chill of the L.A. beat scene, and the nostalgic synth swaying of Boards of Canada, this Canadian songwriter/producer creates an atmosphere that is both washed out and danceable — pensive, yet uplifting. Like a wandering mind spent cooped up all winter, Snowe's music never sits still for too long. Lush electronics bloom around shimmering guitars and the wonky grit of '90s era hip hop grooves, all while Snowe's wistful lyricism drifts hypnotically in and out of focus—a carefree soundtrack fit for either chaotic house parties or those endless summer nights spent escaping reality.

Siobhán O'Brien - The Kings Fool.

Conveying honesty and vulnerability, contemporary singer-songwriter Siobhán O'Brien releases new single "The King's Fool", off her new album You Can’t Run Out of Love. With heartfelt lyrics, O'Brien brings a compelling track about her assimilation into the US and combines it with the feelings of frustration in trying 'make it' as a musician.

Inspired by great American singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Brandi Carlile,  Sheryl Crow, and Joan Baez, O’Brien creates emotive tracks inspired by changes throughout her life. "The King's Fool" is this introduction into her artistry and a bit of a tease for what is to come on her third full-length record, You Can't Run Out of Love, out late February 2020. Recorded in Austin, Texas, at Cicada Moon Studios, O’Brien worked alongside John Bush (percussionist for Edie Brickell &  New Bohemians) and Matt Hubbard (keyboardist for Edie Brickell &  New Bohemians). Together they brought to life 10 original songs, each documenting important moments in her life since she left Ireland for the US in 2016.

Her new single "The King's Fool" is the first step for O'Brien to show off her unique blend of rock and folk. Be sure to check out Siobhán O'Brien's latest single and follow her on social media for music updates.

As a fourth-generation Irish musician, music has always been an important part of Siobhan O’Brien’s life. At the age of 16, she threw aside the piano and fiddle, dedicating herself to the guitar. Her musical ambitions grew as she released her original music to the world. Her debut album Mumbo Jumbo Bla Bla, released in 1996, went on to garner praise and national airplay throughout Ireland. In 2008, Siobhan released her album I Grew Up To, which featured famed Irish musician Paddy Moloney of The Chieftans and led to a performance at the Boston Symphony Hall with them the same year. In 2016, Siobhan O’Brien made the move to America, deciding that was where she wanted to lay down her musical roots.

Sophie Morgan - Whyte Horses - Beck Pete

Sophie Morgan - Sons & Daughters.

Background - Twenty one-year-old singer-songwriter Sophie Morgan has announced her second EP Sons & Daughters will be released on 21st September, with the lead title track Sons & Daughters, out now.

Born in Liverpool and raised in Rainhill and Widnes, Sophie began playing piano aged 6 and wrote her first songs aged 9. Brought up on an early musical education of Nick Drake and Van Morrison, and later introduced to Joni Mitchell and Carole King, Sophie released her first singles Marionette and Quietly in 2016. She followed these with the release of her debut EP Annie and lead single Hey Annie last year, alongside a UK and European tour with The Waterboys, whose track The Whole Of The Moon features on the Annie EP.

Sons & Daughters was written in the same afternoon as previous single Hey Annie, with The Verve’s Simon Jones and Davide Rossi (Goldfrapp, Coldplay, The Verve). It is an emotive folk song which fully showcases Sophie’s warm delicate vocal, building to a gorgeous melody that pulls you in close like a welcome embrace. Sophie says;

“The song itself is quite simple in its nature. I think it had been something I was thinking about for a while... that we are all just somebody's son or daughter. I think remembering that can be quite reassuring. The song is a sort of rejoice, that regardless of the different lives we lead, we all begin and end at the same place.” WEBSITE.

Intimate and personal sounding from the very beginning 'Sons & Daughters' is a subtle, melodic and captivating modern folk song. The musical backdrop is creative as instruments weave around each other, and Sophie Morgans vocals glide beautifully above.

Whyte Horses - Never Took the Time.

Background - Manchester psych-pop outfit Whyte Horses today release their first ever official video.  Alongside director/producer/editor James Slater, the band have created an accompanying video for ‘Never Took The Time’.   Filled with shimmery, wistful, 60s pop hues, ‘Never Took The Time’ features Leonore Wheatley and Mélanie Pain on vocals.  Written by Dom Thomas and recorded by Mike Burnham at Buzz Studios, it is taken from the bands latest ‘Empty Words’ album (released via CRC records in March 2018).

The video is released just a few weeks before members of The Go! Team will join The Whyte Horses Experience (alongside La Roux, Badly Drawn Boy, Melanie Pain and St Barts Choir) at their huge multi-media, special guest-laden headline show at Royal Festival Hall on September 13th.

Talking about the show, Dom Thomas describes the Whyte Horses Experience. “We approach each gig as stand-alone event in which we attempt to bring together all of our favourite films, music, art and squeeze it into one evening. We want to create an experience, a night that feels like The Velvet Underground sound-tracking a Stan Brakhage film, or The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour with an Exploding Plastic Inevitable-inspired lightshow”.

"We’ve invited like-minded special guests to perform songs with us in a quasi TV special format, between songs from our albums Pop or Not and Empty Words. The Whyte Horse Experience is a place to hide away and forget about the outside world for a couple of hours." WEBSITE.

The music is lush and fresh on 'Never Took the Time' a dreamy psych pop song where the vocals are equally melodic and dreamy, and the hooks are everywhere.

Beck Pete - Gently Break It.

Background - We now have the highly anticipated single from Los Angeles songstress, Beck Pete. Entitled ‘Gently Break It’ the single truly takes the listener on a ride featuring intricate hooky melodies and multiple musical scene changes all with an overall underlying indisputable element of soul. From her emotion-forward approach to sharing across all platforms to her songs stemming from her most intimate moments, everything about Los Angeles artist Beck Pete bursts with every inch of her truth. Gravitating towards unconventional melodies and authentic storytelling lyricism, the songstress curates a unique style of pop songwriting that is always rooted in experience, written from a place of yearning, and always brutally honest.

Inspired by a need to highlight the most vulnerable and extreme sides of the herself in an attempt to accept them, Pete has created an outlet for people to feel a little less alone. Combining the most feminine and masculine versions of herself, along with the most emotional and most overwhelming artistic, Pete finds herself able to thrive in these extremes and seeks to encourage others to do the same.

Fusing contemporary pop elements with rock and roll textures and unpredictable, buoyant background vocals, Beck creates an undeniably distinctive sonic landscape that listeners can truly lose themselves in, and that defies current musical landscapes. Mastered by Joe Laporta (Shawn Mendes, Leon Bridges, Imagine Dragons) and mixed by Ryan Gilligan (Kevin Garrett) Pete’s music serves at a reminder of the importance of the duality of vulnerability and strength. "I hope that every one of my songs facilitate communication. The only way that we will move forward in any capacity is to normalize uncomfortable situations. We need to normalize communication. Normalize feeling. Normalize heartbreak”, confides Pete.

Upcoming single ‘Gently Break It’ thematically sheds light on a situation that is all too common romantically, where a person convinces themselves that they are undeserving of love and therefore romanticizes the idea of playing a victim in an unhealthy relationship. Pete reveals, "I have been that girl, and can’t say that I won’t be again. I’m just hoping that this song serves a reminder of that tendency, and spreads awareness to everyone who hears it that, one, they are not alone in this cycle and two, they can break it by believing they are worthy of something positive and healthy”. Sonically the song truly takes the listener on a ride featuring intricate hooky melodies and multiple musical scene changes all with an overall underlying indisputable element of soul. WEBSITE.

Opening with a feisty bass that slowly and rhythmically drives the song forward, Beck Pete's vocals  quickly add some vibrancy and emotion to 'Gently Break It'. Stripped back and with some natural rock and roll feeling, the addition of just a sprinkling of pop vibes gives this track some real edge.

Empathy Test - Lusterlit - Mcbaise - Louise Connell - Winter and Trabants - Sophie Morgan

Empathy Test - Everything Will Work Out.

Background - Empathy Test recently shared their latest single "Everything Will Work Out". The track is from their forthcoming EP 'Everything Will Work Out' (out Nov 3rd) and also appears on their new LP 'Safe From Harm' (out Nov 17). The duo explains that their latest single is about "hooking up with your ex and then waking up in the morning and realising you're not going to get back together, but it's okay; it's for the best". On November 17th, the band will be releasing two debut LPs, 'Losing Touch (Remastered)' and 'Safe From Harm', both of which contain remastered versions of previously released material as well as brand new tracks. You can pre-order the EP via iTunes, Amazon and Bandcamp, and pre-order the LPs here.

Empathy Test was formed in 2013 by childhood friends Isaac Howlett and Adam Relf. Sharing a mutual love for all things sci-fi, the London-based duo draw inspiration from ‘80s movie soundtracks, ‘90s guitar bands and underground dance music. Their name, borrowed from Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner, gives a clue to the DNA of a band that, since its conception just three years ago, has self-released a string of meticulously layered, life-affirming Synthpop tracks that have won them both critical acclaim a legion of dedicated fans worldwide.

‘Everything Will Work Out’ represents a bold new sonic statement from Howlett and Relf, who, in a now wholly oversaturated synth scene, have used their considerable talents to form an enthralling, standalone identity. Shedding the dark, melancholy nightscapes of early tracks like their debut, ‘Losing Touch’, which has now had over half a million plays on Spotify, this new single finds the band stepping into the light, rocking the kind of chorus you wouldn’t be surprised to find on a new Haim album. Packed full of hooks and constantly evolving, Everything Will Work Out is the perfect final taster for new LP, ‘Safe From Harm’.

Fiercely independent, the band remains unsigned, having already turned down their fair share of record deals in favour of crowdfunding their twin debut albums via PledgeMusic. The hugely successful campaign is now 575% funded and counting, showing the huge weight of support they have behind them. Despite the lack of label-backing, they’re also turning in the kind of Spotify streams you would expect from the latest industry-backed buzz band, with their last single Bare My Soul already having racked up 70K+ plays. WEBSITE. FACEBOOK.

The vocals are notable from the beginning as they drift above a rich synth layered musical soundtrack. 'Everything Will Work Out' is a refreshing electro pop song with bags of feeling.

Mcbaise - 610.

Background - "Mcbess is an illlustrator and musician originally from the south of France, living nowadays in London.

From playing drums, saxophone and percussion in a jazz band in Cannes as a teenager, to being part of multiple rock bands in London, it’s been quite the journey.

During the winter of 2014 Mcbess recorded Seabass in the south of France, between two family dinners, a way to capture the almost post-apocalyptic mood that resides in Cannes during the rest of the year in this dormant resort.

Giving birth to “mcbaise”, becoming a sandbox to create some smooth tunes with the right amount of 'weird.'" BANDCAMP, FACEBOOK.

There is a gentle and lazy feel to '610', a cool and laid back rocker that mixes melodic hooks with some bluesy vibes. If you like this track then check out the other twelve songs on their album 'Windowsill', I think your in for a very welcome surprise.

Louise Connell - Ilo.

Background - Louise Connell is a singer-songwriter from Airdrie, near Glasgow. Previously performing and releasing her music under the name Reverieme, she has earned a considerable reputation as an outstanding songwriter, with a particular knack for framing intelligent, literate lyrics in haunting and beautiful melodies, delivered by “a voice that would melt iron” (Ravechild).

Her first studio album, Straw Woman (2016), was released to consistent critical acclaim and overwhelmingly positive reviews, and was the featured Album Of The Week on several BBC Radio Scotland programmes as well as receiving general airplay on Radio 2, Radio 6 (Lauren Laverne’s “Headphone Moment”), Radio 4, Virgin Radio and Amazing Radio.

Recently, her work has come to the attention of legendary artist and designer James Marsh. Famous for his wonderful illustrations for records by Talk Talk, Jamiroquai and many others, James drew inspiration from Louise’s newest songs to create a series of beautiful designs for her forthcoming releases, which will be the first records released under her own name Louise Connell.

These will be a series of three 6-track EPs, each of which will reflect a slightly different aspect of Louise’s writing and performance. The first EP, Squall will be released on October 20th, with parts 2 and 3 (Echo and Rale) following in January and March 2018 respectively. WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.

We featured Louise Connell in February last year when she was using the Reverieme moniker & it's a pleasure to share another beautiful song from her with 'Ilo'. Her gorgeous vocals are accompanied by a refined musical arrangement and the good news is that there is plenty more to follow.

Winter and Trabants - Just Stay.

Background - LA-based (by way of Brazil) dream-pop band Winter recently wrapped up a tour opening for another female-fronted LA act, Cherry Glazerr, a show supporting Colleen Green, and a show at the Desert Daze Festival in Joshua Tree in Oct. Their stand-alone single "Just Stay" featuring Trabants has just been shared.

Winter is a dreamy indie rock band whose sound was conceived in Boston. The current tour finds Samira Winter backed by Justine Brown, Chelsea Brown, and Anders LaSource of fellow LA band Summer Twins.

The quartet released their first full-length album, Supreme Blue Dream, via Lolipop Records in 2015. The aptly titled album floats on with a youthful sense of nostalgia and romanticized segues into adulthood. Influences include most of the 90s holy grail of grunge/alternative music (Dinosaur Jr., Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Pixies, etc.). Winter aspires to connect others with their inner child by making blissful, beautiful and ethereal pop music. FACEBOOK.

'Just Stay' is a soothing and lush dream pop meets indie rock song. Melodic and flowing, it's very catchy and the accompanying old home movie footage (I'm guessing that's what it is) is fabulous.

Sophie Morgan - Hey Annie.

Background - Twenty-year-old singer-songwriter Sophie Morgan released her debut EP Annie recently and the video for lead track Hey Annie is available to watch now.

Born in Liverpool and raised in Rainhill and Widnes, Sophie began playing piano aged 6 and wrote her first songs aged 9. Brought up on an early musical education of Nick Drake and Van Morrison, and later introduced to Joni Mitchell and Carole King, Sophie released her first single Marionette last year and followed this with Quietly, picking up BBC Introducing and BBC 6Music support along the way.

After a chance meeting with The Verve’s Simon Jones, whilst singing in church at a friend’s wedding, Sophie began recording in Simon’s Chester studio alongside Davide Rossi (Goldfrapp, Coldplay, The Verve) and it was there that the Annie EP was produced.

Hey Annie is the perfect introduction to the EP. It is a folk-tinged track with a delicate animated melody and a warming honeyed vocal. The EP is shaped by Sophie’s musical influences and is a body of work that is ahead of her young years. The video is a relaxed affair and shows Sophie and her tight-knit group of musician friends performing the track together in retro inspired footage. Sophie says;

“It encapsulates my earliest musical years, marking the end of the first chapter and the beginning of the next. The EP features the playing of all the musical friends I have made so far and is a real family affair recorded between all of our houses. I can feel that warmth and homeliness in the imperfections of the recordings - like the squeaking of my old piano stool or the creaking of the floorboards in my living room.” WEBSITE, FACEBOOK.

'Hey Annie' is a gently melodic song where Sophie Morgan's vocals are full of feeling. The band deliver a superb soundtrack, with high quality musicianship, as can be seen (and heard) on the 'live' music video.
