Selkama - Mosquito Bite.

Mosquito Bite is the third single from Selkama’s upcoming debut album which will be out this spring.

About the song: Mosquito Bite is a break-up song written in retrospect. It’s about realizing that you’ve been denying your feelings for someone and then understanding it too late. It deals with how hard it can be to let go of strong memories that you’ve been romanticizing and rewriting way too much in your own head. Kim arranged the powerful strings that Jenny Lander later played so beautifully on violin and cello in the studio. It’s something special to hear your own songs with strings for the first time and for a little while we felt as close to a James Bond-soundtrack as we will ever come.

About the video: The video is animated and directed by our talented friend Michaela Rosengren who was given free reins to come up with whatever she wanted.

Michaela about the video: Selkama’s song is a telling depiction of a lost love that you can’t seem to forget. In the video I tried to illustrate the physical and psychological emotions that you drown in and are haunted by after a painful break-up.

The Danberrys - The Mountain.

Americana duo The Danberrys officially release their new single "The Mountain". For the single, Dorothy and Ben pulled inspiration from New Orleans’s traditional second-line rhythm and blues and features vocals from American songwriter Darrell Scott. Their lyrics reflect a message of destruction becoming a catalyst in creating new strength and wisdom.

"The Mountain" is the first single off The Danberrys' upcoming album Shine, out May 8th, 2020. Comprised of 12 new tracks, The Danberrys masterfully depart from their signature acoustic sound to capture elements of rock, blues, and folk. This new musical direction lets the pair venture into a darker atmosphere as well as allowing their self-written lyrics to stand tall. Shine will mark The Danberrys third full-length album.

Pawn Painters - Under The Sun.

Indie band Pawn Painters from Bavaria / Germany release their first radio single "Under the Sun" via Junuh Music / Believe Digital.

The Pawn Painters combine vintage-oriented sounds with a modern, spherical sound spectrum for driving indie and alternative vibes. In some places the band is reminiscent of the young The Strokes, carried by the extraordinary voice of singer Simon Mennes

If the Pawn Painters were actually painting, their paintings would be rich in intense colors and patterns. Even if the four musicians from Bavaria are not painters, the description fits their style perfectly. The band bundles vintage-oriented sounds with a modern, spherical sound spectrum for indie and alternative beats.

The Pawn Painters were founded in 2016. Four musicians, plagued by the band landscape in the area and their own efforts. A cellar somewhere in the slums of Schrobenhausen's Westside is considered the creative breeding ground for these united souls. The first contests were won with the string jump in Pfaffenhofen and the Noiseattack in Ingolstadt. The result was the first release of their single "Talk Philosophy" and an appearance at the Taubertal Festival in Rothenburg, followed by appearances at the Noisehausen Festival at their hometown.

Detalji - Without You.

Helsinki based artist and producer Detalji shares explosive new single 'Without You’ via Deep Limit + announces UK dates.

Detalji is the solo project of Krista Myllyviita, a Helsinki based artist and producer. Today, Detalji shares romantic party anthem Without You. a musical expression of excitement and the relief you feel when you’re finally ready to surrender yourself to love. It’s about the joy of knowing that your loneliness is coming to an end.

In 2019 Detalji was shortlisted for Breakthrough Artist of the Year on Finnish national radio, as well as winning a Femma Award (Finnish "indie Grammy”) for Best Electronic Act, alongside playing her first shows outside of Finland including appearances at Iceland Airwaves and Eurosonic Noorderslag.

Myllyviita first started making left-field electronic pop from her bedroom after attending her first rave with her sister at the age of 18. Up until this point, Myllyviita fulfilled her musical desires singing and playing guitar in various bands, but she was always striving for something different. And so in 2016, after a few years of exploring and developing her sound, experimental electronic project Detalji was born.

Rising from the thriving Finnish pop scene, Detalji is an artist forging her own path with ambitious tracks written for international crowds. “I do everything alone, using tools on my computer, a few synthesizers, Ableton Live and a microphone,” she explains, a process which all takes place in her studio apartment in a gloomy part of Helsinki called Itä-Pasila. 2020 is already off to a flying start with Detalji being nominated for a prestigious EMMA award as well taking her enthralling live show on the road.

Satin Nickel - Call It.

NYC-based folk-pop band, Satin Nickel, has released the new single, “Call It,” via a premiere on Pancakes and Whiskey, and announced the release of their first full-length album, Shadow of Doubt, on April 10, 2020.

The song was inspired by the personal experiences of band member Samantha Aneson (vocals, guitar, banjo). “A few years ago, I was in a toxic relationship with someone I was pretty addicted to. We had a lot of arguments, weeks we’d go without speaking, and not a lot of respect,” she explains. “I remember him, in the middle of arguments, saying that we ‘should just call it now before it gets worse.’ That saying really stuck with me. ‘Call it’ is a phrase I’d hear in reference to going home at the end of the night - something much less final. It was almost insulting, how easy that phrase made breaking up sound. When I was healing from the relationship, I went back over that phrase and ended up writing a hook based around it.”

Satin Nickel began as a collaboration between Aneson and fellow songwriter Morgan Hollingsworth (vocals, guitar, mandolin). Combining Hollingsworth’s aggressive approach to the Americana narrative with Aneson’s sentimental and introspective approach to folk music, they found their contrasting styles complemented each other, forming a powerful dichotomy, smooth as satin and hard as a nickel. In the winter of 2018, they met fellow theater artists Nikola Balac (drums) and Ariana Karp (cello) and released their debut self-titled EP. Adding bassist Andrew Shewaga to the group, Satin Nickel became a full-bodied quintet and recorded Shadow of Doubt.

Satin Nickel will be performing at NYC’s Bowery Electric on February 17, in celebration of the release of “Call It.” Shadow of Doubt is out everywhere on April 10, and tour dates will be announced soon.

Puss N Boots - Sister.

Puss N Boots—the charming trio featuring Norah Jones, Sasha Dobson, and Catherine Popper—have released “Sister,” the title track of their forthcoming second full-length album Sister, which comes out February 14 on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. “Sister” was co-written by all three band members and features a lead vocal by Dobson, who also plays drums on the track, with Jones on electric guitar/vocals and Popper on electric bass/vocals. It follows the first single “It’s Not Easy” featuring a lead vocal by Jones.

Puss N Boots has also announced upcoming tour dates including two NYC album release shows—February 14 at Rough Trade in Brooklyn and February 15 at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan—and a run of Southeast US shows in April that will include an appearance at the 2020 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 25. Sister is a fetching collection of originals written by the band members collectively and individually, mixed with loving covers of songs by Tom Petty (“Angel Dream”), Dolly Parton (“The Grass Is Blue”), Paul Westerberg (“It’s a Wonderful Lie”), and Concrete Blonde (“Joey”). Jones, Dobson, and Popper each take turns delivering lead vocals and also pick up multiple instruments throughout the album trading off on guitar, bass, and drums.

Team Me were featured a couple of times last year and the new song 'Into The Wild' is a refreshing indie track where the eight member band are found in a more sensitive mode. === Christopher Paul Stelling shares a beautiful video for 'Lucky Stars' a sumptuous and melodic singer-songwriter piece. === From Selkama we have 'Exit Signs' where feisty drums and more dreamy vocals make for an engaging track glued together with some fine guitar moments. === Bluegrass has been growing on me over the last two or three years and the new album from Sideline entitled 'Breaks to the Edge' has upped my appreciation even further, needless to say fans of this genre should love this. === The Lone Bellow have a distinct and very engaging sound as is born out by the anthem orientated 'Good Times' and the production is notably refined. === I have been a fan of Jenny Lewis's music since the day's of Rilo Kiley so the new track from Jenny Lewis, Habib Koite, Artists for Peace and Justice entitled 'Under The Super Moon' was a must hear, and it's a grand piece and a good reflection of the multi artist album due soon. === Lunaires have just released 'Healing Hurricanes' a melodic genre straddling song with plenty of atmosphere and melodic vibes.

Team Me - Into The Wild.

After a festival filled Summer with slots at Træna and Pstereo, Team Me return with the sensitive and mesmerising ‘Into The Wild’, out via Propeller Recordings (Highasakite, Dagny).

Taking a stripped back approach incorporating more natural instrumentation, the track is a refreshing reminder of the 8-piece’s capacity and versatility to write indie bangers in all degrees. Frontman Marius Drogsås Hagen tells of the subject of the track “sometimes you get the urge to disappear and leave behind the ones you love in order to find peace with yourself”, and for Marius it’s about following the need to escape into the wild in order to return to society recharged, and able to appreciate and embrace his relationships.

When speaking of the band’s new chapter, Marius tells “as for the music, I really want to be more focussed on documenting this time, rather than releasing an album and touring for three years on a campaign. I want the project to just be a way to let things out of my system.”

Christopher Paul Stelling - Lucky Stars.

Christopher Paul Stelling’s new album Best Of Luck is a supremely accessible and finely crafted record that deftly merges genres. Producer Ben Harper, who has previously produced records by Mavis Staples, Rickie Lee Jones, The Blind Boys of Alabama and more, recruited an all-star rhythm section with Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks, Dixie Chicks) on drums and upright bass player Mike Valerio (Randy Newman, LA Philharmonic) to lend a versatility and finesse. “I really believe this record is the intersection where folk and soul meet,” Harper says.

This weekend Stelling has released the tender new song “Lucky Stars”. The sonic simplicity of “Lucky Stars” reveals a richness of melody and emotionality in Stelling’s music. “It’s part love song, part lullaby,” Stelling says of the track, “with a gentle touch from the band and Ben’s haunting lap steel matching my guitar in the instrumental section, additional vocals by my partner. It’s about gratitude and the mysteries of the universe. Even to just be here and marvel at it all is enough for me most times. Even if it’s meaningless, it’s beautiful.”

Throughout Best of Luck, feelings discontent and self-doubt are transformed into messages of resilience and hope. Lead single “Trouble Don’t Follow Me” captures this perfectly, with an upbeat almost anthemic rhythm and soulful, gospel-tinged vocals. “It comes as no surprise to me that one of my most optimistic songs could be written in the most difficult hour,” Stelling says. “When all I needed was a little hope and a song I could play night after night and not get tired of. Something that captured the basic recipe for endurance. A song about marching on, a warning to anything that might stand in your way, and needing to feel strong for the people around you, so you can inspire them to do the same.”

Selkama - Exit Signs.

Exit Signs is a song about how easy it is to build walls around yourself after a long time of loneliness. You learn how to detach yourself from your emotions.

You learn how to come up with excuses to not let anyone in. It’s like the brain creates its own defense mechanism to make sure the safety of your heart won’t be endangered once again.

The song originally sounded like a shoegaze-ballad but the first thing our drummer did when we showed it to him was to play an energetic and steady beat. It felt funny in contrast to the gloomy lyrics and we loved it.

The second single from Selkama's upcoming debut album is called Exit Signs. It was out January 10. The album drops in early 2020.

Sideline - Breaks to the Edge (Album).

Bluegrass powerhouse Sideline is keeping the momentum from a successful 2018 release and a major IBMA award going with its new album, Breaks To The Edge, now available from Mountain Home Music Company. Following the band's great success with its acclaimed release Front and Center and its single, “Thunder Dan” — which topped the year-end chart as the #1 Bluegrass song in radio, and followed that accolade by winning the IBMA’s Song of the Year in 2019 — Breaks To The Edge, is a collection of songs that range from high-energy traditional Bluegrass to progressive destinations and all points in between.

Reflecting the North Carolina group’s roots and experiences, the set includes stories of traveling troubadours like that told in their radio single, “Return To Windy Mountain,” a nostalgic reminiscence of country living in “Southern Wind,” a classic bluegrass ballad of tragedy, “Down In The Willow Garden,” the reproachful Stanley Brothers favorite, “Your Selfish Heart” and more.

On the more progressive side, Breaks To The Edge offers a cover of Steve Wariner’s “Crash Course In The Blues,” with Skip Cherryholmes taking the vocal lead on a wry tale that justifies the album title with Southern-rock style jams. At the other end of the spectrum, the classic southern gospel song "I’ll Live Again" highlights Sideline’s refined vocal abilities with supremely blended 4-part harmony.

The high lead vocal of guitarist Bailey Coe flies above Sideline’s blended harmonies in a pair of furiously up-tempo barnburners (“Digging My Own Grave” and “Roll On Blues”), providing a flavorful contrast to Troy Boone’s aggressive lead vocals and mandolin playing on the tragic love song “Amy.” Supple, energetic fiddling from Daniel Greeson spurs songs like “Square Dance Town” but also lends a haunting, mournful opening to “Return To Windy Mountain.”

Throughout, the band’s tight mix of power and dynamics is driven by the pocket and pulse of original member Steve Dilling’s award winning banjo and co-founder Jason Moore’s bass, while Cherryholmes, the third colleague at the group’s heart, dishes up impressive flatpicking from start to finish. With a loaded national performance schedule and now their 5th studio album,Sideline continues to be a tour de force in bluegrass. The Lone Bellow - Good Times.

The Lone Bellow – Zach Williams, Kanene Donehey Pipkin, Brian Elmquist – have released the soaring and elevating "Good Times." a new powerful song from their soon-to-be-released album HALF MOON LIGHT (Dualtone Records, an Entertainment One Company). Out 7th February and produced by The National's Aaron Dessner, HALF MOON LIGHT is the band’s fourth studio LP and first one since 2017. Billboard premiered the "rhythmic, joyous" song with a Zach Williams Q&A earlier today. A short video about the writing and recording of the song is available now as well.

"Over the years I’ve had the great joy of staying up late and hearing epic stories told by adventurous souls," Williams said. "Some stories were told on old boats way out in the middle of the ocean, some in Irish Pubs in Manhattan, some in backyards down south, and some on hospital beds. 'Good Times' is a salute to the good ones who grab life by the horns and let no good time slip away." In November, the band released "Wonder," a song that underpins the entire album with a loving call to reclaim the childlike awe and appreciation age takes away. It is the record’s core message and transcendent truth.

"When the day is done, I often find myself wondering if I am losing my sense of wonder," says Williams. "My mind goes back to very specific memories. One is of my cousin and I driving in his old S10 pick up truck with a tape of Moondance in the deck that we found in his brother’s room. I remember watching the pine trees go by in the truck’s windows as we sang 'and it stoned me to my soul.' Jenny Lewis, Habib Koite, Artists for Peace and Justice - Under The Super Moon.

Arts Music released the track "Under The Supermoon" from the upcoming benefit album Let the Rhythm Lead: Haiti Song Summit Vol. 1, a collaborative project of songwriters Jonathan Wilson, Jenny Lewis, Jackson Browne, Paul Beaubrun, Habib Koité, Raúl Rodríguez and Jonathan Russell, along with members of the Haitian roots band Lakou Mizik. "Under The Supermoon" was written by Jenny Lewis, and features Habib Koite. Let The Rhythm Lead:  Haiti Song Summit Vol. 1 will be released on January 31, 2020.

Hailing from four different countries, interweaving North American Indie Rock with beats and percussion of Haitian Vodou, Spanish and Malian guitar, Tres Flamenco, with songs in English, Creole, Khassonké, Manding and Spanish, Let The Rhythm Lead celebrates the work of Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti, and was recorded at their Artists Institute on the island's southern coast, in the town of Jacmel.

As Lewis  explains, "Under The Supermoon" is "a love song written in Jacmel floating in the Caribbean sea under the supermoon of November 2016 just days after the US presidential election... a travelogue of sorts processed in real time…"

Lunaires - Healing Hurricanes.

Lunaires is the new project by Danilo Carnevale and Patrizia Tranchina, ex-members of Jeunesse d’Ivoire, an underground legendary Italian wave band active in the early and mid-Eighties. It’s a project stretched in time, from the post-punk of the early eighties to the post-everything of today.

The historic group Jeunesse d’Ivoire were featured in Body Section in 1983, an historical compilation of the seminal magazine Rockerilla – along with Litfiba, Kirlian Camera and Diaframma, among others.

They also took part in various other compilations: “Milano New Wave 1980-83” (Spittle Records, IT); “Cold Waves and Minimal Electronics vol.1” – 2010 (Angular Records – UK); “New Wave Italiana 1980 – 1986” – 2012 (Spittle Records); “Danza Meccanica vol. 2” – 2012 (Mannequin); “Italia Synthetica 1981-1985” 2013 (Spittle Records).

The band toured extensively throughout Italy, including Milan, Turin, Florence, Rome, Bologna, Modena, Pisa, Brescia, Naples etc., supporting acts such as Kirlian Camera and the German band No More, and growing a strong reputation for their powerful and dynamic live sets.

Lunaires is the landing point of a long musical journey which embodies and testifies two very distant and still related musical eras, that of the crudest and most innocent post-punk of thirty years ago and today electronica, bordering on psychedelia, shoegaze and krautrock. The album “If All the Ice Melted” has been released in April 2019 by Wave Records (Brazil), that’s also going to release the brand new single “Healing Hurricane” early 2020.

Having already shared a couple of tracks from her debut E.P we now have the complete set from Flora Hibberd entitled 'The Absentee'. Her gorgeous and distinct voice resonates through each song and the simmering atmosphere is contagious. === It's more than two years since we last featured FELIN and we catch up with the artist with the fourth single 'Money Honey' from her recently released album, as once again the feisty rocker is on top form. === Singer songwriter Michael Colton is about to release a new single entitled 'A Little Crazy', it's a fine country rocker packing energy and hooks galore. === Selkama recently shared 'All My Friends Are Growing Up' where the Finnish brothers deliver a melodic and perhaps a little melancholic but nonetheless lively and engaging song.

Flora Hibberd - The Absentee (E.P).

Born in East London but currently residing in Paris, Flora Hibberd has been described as ‘intelligent and measured…there is a profound intuition in her work’ and her songs as ‘deeply rooted in the timeless lyricism of Dylan and Cohen.’ With influences as diverse as Nick Cave, Joan Baez and Jacques Brel, she moves effortlessly between acoustic folk traditions and the bruised indie of PJ Harvey, Jason Molina and Cat Power. Her powerfully emotive voice, evocative melodies and poetic lyrics combine beautifully to give her songs a deeply haunting and unforgettable quality.

Flora’s first two singles ‘The Absentee’ and ‘In Violence’ released in earlier 2019, were bold statements of intent and announced her as a powerful newcomer. The songs’ complex, dark melodic and lyrical beauty have left a longing for what The Absentee EP will offer. The EP packages the singles with two new gems, ‘As Long As There Is Night’ and ‘The Healing’ that will not disappoint.

About The Absentee EP, Flora states ‘The songs of this EP emerged over months and years, and were refined in bars, apartments and on the streets. The Absentee was written fifty metres below the English Channel, three years ago. In Violence was written in 2017 in the garden of the Musée Rodin. Their influences are too many to name; random encounters with poetry, art, music and language in all its forms have bled into my writing in ways of which I am often unaware. They are about real people and real events. But they are also about impossible people, and impossible events. My hope is that they find you here, on the blurred edge between reality and dreams, in the half-awake place where the familiar merges with the unknown. ‘

FELIN - Money Honey.

Following her previous single ‘LaLaLa’, the Stockholm based artist FELIN now releases the fourth single titled ‘MoneyHoney’ from her new album be released a week or so ago. This powerful track aims to make the listeners feel invincible and succeeds well. Surrounding her is a creative power-house collective that have the combined experience of writing for the likes of Adam Lambert, and having visuals published in Interview Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar.

“Money Honey is a modern Bonnie and Clyde story on speed about being madly in love, breaking all the rules and limits,” FELIN says about the track. “This song is loud and fast - just like the adrenaline rush when you do something forbidden. It’s one of the most playful songs on the upcoming album and I wanted to capture that wild romance feeling, when you feel like anything is possible.”

FELIN’s music is unapologetically cinematic, drawing from theatrical influences – the dark humour of Tarantino being one of note. Known for combining pop melodies and rock energy, FELIN has played the historic Rockpalast in Germany and supported The Chainsmokers last spring.

Michael Colton - A Little Crazy.

Singer/songwriter Michael Colton is set to release a new single that takes his steadfast country rock/blues sound to new heights. Titled “A Little Crazy,” it’s an exhilarating track that both figurately evokes letting loose and enjoying the ride, and literally signals a pivot out of his comfort zone as he embraces a new direction in his songwriting.  Having garnered significant accolades for his more country inflected work in the past, Colton has streamlined his sound which seamlessly blends rock and blues traditions and is anchored by his striking vocals and magnificent guitar chops. Produced by noted film and television composer/producer Brett Boyett, “A Little Crazy” features Colton on vocals and guitar.   Producer Brett Boyett brought a groups of studio musicians to round out the production. Song will be available digitally on November 15 and an EP will be released in the coming year.

Says Colton: “I realize that the best times in my life came from the little moments of jumping off the beaten path. When you jump away from all the normal stuff and follow the weird little voice in your gut sometimes it’s a train wreck. BUT to make a song or really anything in life great you have to let go, follow that thing you were told was wrong.  Be free of everything.

The big difference between this and my past music is that I always had a firm hand in the production. This time I let go and gave producer Brett Boyett a lot of freedom.  He kept me focused on the story and took my singing, guitar playing and songwriting to a whole new level.

Colton burst onto the scene in 2010 with a striking blues-rock track titled “Sugar.” Following that up with a deep dive into the songs of Robert Johnson in 2012, Colton continued to hone his blues guitar cred.   With a flurry of single and EP releases beginning in 2016, he immediately caught the attention of outlets such as The Boot, Popdose, Huffington Post with an evolved sound that seamlessly combined elements of rock, country, R&B and blues that are anchored by his otherworldly guitar chops. Earlier this year, Colton released two EPs collecting some of the best moments from 2017 and 2018-- Qualified and California Blue.

Selkama - All My Friends Are Growing Up.

When brothers Nicolas & Kim Flemström decided to start making music together they took the name Selkama, to honor their Finnish mother. Selkama is her maiden name. After playing music in different projects for a couple of years they wanted to start from scratch and do something together, just the two of them. After writing songs for a year in their hometown Stockholm they traded city life for countryside, as they went to a studio on a farm close to Trollhättan during winter 2018.

After two weeks of intense recording, starry skies, dinners to the sound of a crackling fireplace and coffee breaks, a record had been made. Nicolas personal songwriting combined with Kim’s harmonies and sense of melody makes for an emotional and dynamic record. Songs about loneliness, selfishness, friendship and love are accompanied by sonic landscapes, reverb - drenched pianos and two voices that sound like one.

The title track and first single of their debut album ’All My Friends Are Growing Up’ was released on November 6 2019. The record will be out in early 2020.
