Kluster - Jamie Lynn Vessels - Stop.drop.rewind

We featured Kluster a couple of times in 2018 and now they return with 'Wild' an imaginative song that is hard to categorise in any one genre, it's creative and engaging nonetheless.

Jamie Lynn Vessels has just shared 'Cloak and Dagger' a brooding rocker that builds with intensity and emotion, her simmering vocals are just right for natural rock songs.

Another band who have been on Beehive Candy twice before are Stop.drop.rewind and their latest song 'Floating Stone' makes a third appearance inevitable as this expansive rocker comes fuelled with plenty of hooks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kluster - Wild.

Kluster was founded by four friends and a virtual drummer in Malmö 2014, a real life drummer joined in shortly afterwards and the gang was complete. Since, the quintet has been active on as well the Malmö indie scene as playing shows in Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, supporting acts such as Frankie Cosmos and Nicole Sabouné. Debut album civic was released last summer and Kluster received praise from BBC Radio 6, major swedish music magazines and more.  Since releasing their debut LP the band have become deeply involved within their local scene through running 'Fubbik' - a live music club night for Malmö bands only. Today, the debut is followed by new single Wild, including the bands first music video, out on all platforms via Rama Lama Records.

Wild is yet another glimpse of Kluster's playful sound - a melting pot of broad influences such as pop, punk, noise, lo-fi, indie and jazz. According to the band, "Wild is about the harvest of wild berries, giving you stains that never go away. But also about the longing for the fox that lives alone in the wild. In Chinese culture, the fox can also symbolize a being with magical powers, a messenger from the spirit world or the dead. The song can generally be said to be an ongoing inner trial, with memory images having impact as they appear in the dazzling summer light seen from above.".

The members have a history as academic jazz players, forming Kluster after longing to find a collective process free from strict genre playbooks and narrow-minded academic rules. A process that resulted in Kluster's captivating characteristic dynamic and turning points, alternating from melodious to dissonance, complex to simple.

The video is made by designer duo Angelina Petrovic and Jonna Jansson who explores whats ugly, weird, disgusting and nice. Kluster consist of Linnea Hall (vocals), Pontus Örnstrand (keyboard), Sebastian Hegedüs (guitar), Adam Jonsson (guitar) and Andreas Pollak (drums) and are available for interviews and other requests.

Jamie Lynn Vessels - Cloak and Dagger.

Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Jamie graduated with an undergraduate and Master's Degree in Criminal Justice during a stint in the Northeast. Piano, guitar, songwriting - and even a brief foray with the trombone - were never far from her throughout her formative and academic years. Torn between two paths, Jamie's passion for, and calling to, a life of music drove her to find her artistic home in New Orleans.

Several years after making the move to the Crescent City, 2018 and 2019 have seen the formation of an entirely new band and sound, with fresh energy and material.

This shift caught the attention of peers and fans alike, giving the six-foot rock Amazon well-deserved attention in the indie world as a songstress, performer, and vocalist, both abroad and at home.

Likened to Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Jamie has the rare ability to captivate and enrapture with a combination of her stage presence, lyrical prowess, electrifying rhythms, and a voice both raw and soulfully soothing. It's not just a concert - it's an experience.

Stop.drop.rewind - Floating Stone.

Stop.drop.rewind tell us - "Our latest single, "Floating Stone," is out and already gaining praise for its mature take on our signature sound. It's a slow-burner; the music and lyrics reflect the ups-and-downs and perseverance required for a life in bands. This is personal territory for us- DJ, the guitar player/lyricist, and I taught ourselves to play together and have been making music for almost 20 years".

Stop.drop.rewind is the primary musical outlet for four like-minded individuals currently residing in northwest Indiana who believe that music should be innovative, inclusive, and above all else, shared. After nearly twenty years of education, practice, and cooperative songwriting, stop.drop.rewind has come together to confound those who try to define them, bringing their unique brand of jazz-tinged progressive pop rock to audiences across the Midwest and beyond.

Kris Lohn and DJ Crenson met in 2000 in Baltimore, Maryland when they were both 11 years old. It didn’t take them long after that to get instruments in their hands, as they started their first band together that same year. They spent their formative years taking in everything the blossoming Baltimore scene had to offer, coming up with the likes of All Time Low and You, Me, and Everyone We Know before relocating to northwest Indiana for college. It was there that stop.drop.rewind formally began.

After writing songs and performing around the region throughout college, the group solidified their rhythm section by adding region native Andy Sutton on drums and releasing Polarity, their 2016 EP. The success of this release afforded them the opportunity to begin regular South by Southwest appearances and perform with the likes of Secondhand Serenade, The Spill Canvas, Hawthorne Heights, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Soul Asylum, Halifax, and Amber Pacific, and in 2018 they released their first full length album, entitled Element & Aftermath. Shortly thereafter, their lineup was finally completed with the addition of fellow region transplant Matt Alley, who moved to Indiana from South Carolina to pursue his own musical education. This quartet of musicians is determined to share their music with anyone eager to listen, with plenty to love for fans of pop and prog rock alike.

Annabel Allum - Kluster - Jessica's Brother

Annabel Allum - Em(ily).

Background - Guildford-based starlet Annabel Allum shares explosive new cut Em(ily), her third offering from forthcoming EP Sorry I’m Not Perceptible out later this month. Providing her latest dose of folk-style storytelling crossed with snarling fuzzy indie licks, Allum’s enigmatic personality shines through once more alongside a series of scintillating hooks, creating further anticipation ahead of her appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Biggest Weekend on 26th May.

“Em(ily) started off as a song of me taking the piss about how many times I go to my best mate asking for help / life advice / guidance”. Allum states, “I’ve wanted to write a song for her for a very long time, eventually this came out and I’m actually really proud of it. I was able to get really experimental with this one, trying things I normally don’t get to”.

Building on this buzz, Annabel has performed a number of prestigious slots in the last twelve months, culminating in supporting the iconic Beth Ditto across her UK/EU tour at the back end of 2017, as well as sharing the stage with Nadine Shah, Blaenavon and more. Sets at The Great Escape, Live at Leeds and SXSW last year brought her to wider international attention, whilst a fiery performance at her biggest headline show to date at London’s Camden Assembly earlier this year signalled a real statement of intent.

Alongside the striking sonic aesthetic of her music, her original look and self-styling has led to endorsements from Bastian Classics, Cheap Monday and various other indie clothing brands. Liam Corneloues on bass and Emma Hiley on drums complete Annabel’s trusty band, prepped to deliver raucous sets throughout the festival circuit in the UK and Europe this summer. Em(ily) was produced by Adrian Hall (Goldfrapp, Du Blonde, Anna Calvi) and is being released by London indie label Killing Moon Records on 15th May. WEBSITE.

Our third feature for Annabel Allum this year with the latest single 'Em(ily)'. Once again she continues to impress us with her enticing and emotive vocals, accompanied by a solid indie rock backdrop, this one is very catchy.

Kluster - Afterglow.

Background - With just one month to Kluster’s debut LP civic we have Afterglow, the third single from the LP. Singles Over My Head and In Your Hometown have been featured in Line of Best Fit, Spotify's Fresh Finds, Swedish national radio P3 and more. Today, yet another piece from debut album civic is released, the stunning Afterglow.

Afterglow is another glimpse of Kluster's playful sound - a melting pot of broad influences such as pop, punk, noise, lo-fi, indie and jazz. The members have a history as academic jazz players, forming Kluster after longing for a collective process free from strict genre playbooks and narrow-minded academic rules. A process that resulted in Kluster's captivating characteristic dynamic and turning points, alternating from melodious to dissonance, complex to simple.

Debut album civic is out on June 15th via Stockholm indie label Rama Lama Records (Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes, Delsbo Beach Club, Melby etc.) which also is the labels first full-length release. The LP was recorded at Malmö's famous Tambourine Studios and is a elegant showcase of the quintet's exciting ability to blend experimental and accessible in their very own way. To put it in Kluster's own words, "civic is a look into the everyday ordinary, the changeable and the constant" with eleven songs treating "situations, emotions and people in our mind at the time, consciously or not". TWITTER.

We featured Kluster for the first time just three weeks back, and the new song 'Afterglow' suggests we should be even more excited about the forthcoming album. Last time we described their music as "Indie Anything" as we struggled to put their music into any one category, it's no easier this time, but the music is gorgeous, that much I am certain of.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jessica's Brother - Humdinger.

Background - Jessica’s Brother is the eponymous debut album from London trio Jessica’s Brother, comprised of songwriter Tom Charleston, Jonny Helm (drums, also of The Wave Pictures) and Charlie Higgs (bass, previously of Ramshackle Union Band). Channelling the spirit of the Brothers Grimm to create an otherworldly atmosphere, they weave their motley influences together making a rich and eclectic vision, with nods to Silver Jews, Jason Molina, Nick Cave, Richard Thompson and Neil Young. There are themes of joy, anger and silliness in a carefully crafted world with a colourful cast of characters.

The new single "Humdinger" is a languid indie folk track, recalling their heroes, Silver Jews. As Charleston explains, it is: "perhaps the one song on the album where the narrator is at ease with himself and the world. Though there are moments where this tranquillity is nudged by outside tremors, so we know this moment is ephemeral."

Jessica's Brother formed in October 2016. Jonny and Charlie worked together in a framing business and had often talked about collaborating in a band together. Fate intervened when Jonny’s girlfriend Jessica introduced him to her brother Tom, and they found a songwriter in waiting. The trio clicked immediately and just nine months later they recorded the album with Laurie Sherman at The Booze Cube in Stoke Newington, with input from Darren Hayman. A few other friends joined them in the studio, including Dan Mayfield (Enderby’s Room), who added a dose of Bad Seeds/Dirty Three vibes on the violin and Paul Rains (Allo Darlin’/Tigercats) lent a hint of country twang on guitar and slide guitar.

With Jessica’s Brother, we see Tom Charleston’s songwriting blossoming in to a tour de force. Influenced more by poets than other musicians, he cites John Ashbery, T.S. Eliot and Philip Larkin as inspirations. He is drawn to how they can be irreverent, unassuming and playful, as he explains; “I suppose I wanted to offer something lyrically engaging and hopefully different.” His modestly lofty ambitions have paid off, with ten startling individual vignettes telling their own stories from a variety of narrator’s points of view. 'Humdinger' is a refined indie folk song, the vocals are distinct and melodic, the music calm and assured, and the chorus packs some subtle hooks that make this one, a must share!

Kluster - Shaman Elect - Margot - Carter Sampson

Kluster - In Your Hometown.

Background - Kluster was founded by four friends and a virtual drummer in Malmö 2014, a real life drummer joined in shortly afterwards and the gang was complete. Since, the quintet has been active on as well the Malmö indie scene as playing shows in Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, supporting acts such as Frankie Cosmos and Nicole Sabouné. Debut single Over My Head was released in February to praise from Line of Best Fit, Spotify's Fresh Finds and more. Today, the success of the debut is followed by new single In Your Hometown and the announcement of debut album civic, out June 15th via Rama Lama Records.

In Your Hometown is yet another glimpse of Kluster's playful sound - a melting pot of broad influences such as pop, punk, noise, lo-fi, indie and jazz. According to the band, "In Your Hometown is somehow about paranoia; it's about a very scared man who hid in his hoody for all his life and never discovered the world around him. He was a great collector of thoughts and things but remained trapped in his own mind".

The members have a history as academic jazz players, forming Kluster after longing to find a collective process free from strict genre playbooks and narrow-minded academic rules. A process that resulted in Kluster's captivating characteristic dynamic and turning points, alternating from melodious to dissonance, complex to simple.

Debut album civic is out on June 15th via Stockholm indie label Rama Lama Records (Steve Buscemi's Dreamy Eyes, Delsbo Beach Club, Melby etc.) and is the labels first full-length release. The LP was recorded at Malmö's famous Tambourine Studios and is a elegant  showcase of the quintet's exciting ability to blend experimental and accessible in their very own way. Or to put it in Kluster's own words, "civic is a look into the everyday ordinary, the changeable and the constant" with eleven songs treating "situations, emotions and people in our mind at the time, consciously or not". TWITTER.

Kluster's desire to play what feels right to them, rather than sit in one specific genre silo is all apparent on 'In Your Hometown' a vibrant "Indie Anything" tune. This piece has some beautiful twist and turns and gorgeous hooks that change shape along the way but always keep the interest at a high level.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shaman Elect - Ships Ahoy.

Background - Tight grooves, crisp tones, emotive lyrics, waves of mood oriented improvisation. Shaman Elect was born inside warehouses turned art studios in Brooklyn, NY. It started as a fusion of styles between Ethan Warshowsky (synths, vocals) and Fredy Garcia (guitar, vocals).

Together, they began developing each other’s songs by combining elements of jazz, rock, and electronica. In early 2017, leading up to their first live performance, Mike Malkowski (drums, vocals) joined the group, contributing his inventive and dynamic drumming. Expressive singer, Sarah Warshowsky (lead vocals) became the group’s frontwoman.

"“Ships Ahoy” is about the inevitability of change, and how we choose to act in its presence. The final scene of the film ‘Apocalypto’ was actually a big inspiration for the track - after a crazy tribal chase in the Mexican jungle following a human sacrifice gone wrong, white man in majestic Ships shows up on the beach for the first time.

After so much personal and localized drama, and achieving survival against seemingly insurmountable odds, one single unpredictable event changes everything. The film ends with the protagonist (Jaguar Paw), looking at the Ships from the safety of the jungle with his family. TWITTER.

There is a tight sophisticated musical vibe from the opening chords on 'Ships Ahoy', where the bands slick performance, is accompanied by some melodic vocals that sync beautifully. Jazz rock and electronica seemingly collide and do so to great effect, this is impressive to say the least.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Margot - Desensitised.

Background - South London’s Margot emerge with strikingly accomplished debut single Desensitised, a dream-pop lament to the repetitious nature of modern capital-city life.

From the opening guitar chimes onwards the touchstones to dream-pop artists old and new are apparent, yet there’s a unique thread running throughout, generated by the collective way the quintet create not only their music, but art and visuals as well.

Throwing their concrete surroundings into the hazy sounds, Margot bring routine realism to life: “Desensitised is about the commute to office blocks, and how its oppressive nature, from the geography to the lonely crowds, can infiltrate, misdirect and dowse appetite and ambition” explains vocalist Alex Hannaway “Writing the song was cathartic, an act of strength and perseverance, a determination not to become desensitised."

Making a decision to be completely self-sufficient through the creative process, Margot record over long weekends at drummer Ben Andrewes' place, in between working weeks. This DIY approach and the autobiographical realism are reflected in the subject matter of the songs. FACEBOOK.

Having lived in London for a good many years, some of which included a daily commute into the city albeit some time ago now, 'Desensitised' still resonates that experience, one I suspect has only become more arduous down the decades. Margot manage to catch so much of that, and in just five minutes convert it into a meaningful, and very special song.

Carter Sampson - Lucky.

Background - She calls herself "lucky". We would like to blame it all on talent and charisma. And whoever has been so lucky to see and hear Carter Sampson perform or to be familiar with her CDs, will know exactly what we are talking about here.

When we released her Wilder Side album in 2016, we knew we had one talented lady on the label, but we could never imagine that she would immediately hit the Euro Americana Chart to stay there for 4 months, that she would do 7 European tours within the next year, that the reviews and airplay just kept coming and that as a result we had to release a compilation of The Queen of Oklahoma by public and media demand.

Now, 2 years later, Carter Sampson returns with 10 new tracks that include crowd pleasers like Rattlesnake Kate and Queen of the Silver Dollar. A great mix of originals and well chosen covers. The enthousiasm of Carter and her players to share these new recordings with us just bursts out of the speakers full energy! WEBSITE.

'Lucky' typifies the fabulous new album from Carter Simpson, due to land in late May. Americana is as good a description as any for this collection of music. Whether the tempo is fast or slow, the material personal or a cover version, Carter Simpson makes it her own with beauty and total commitment apparent throughout.
