Grizzly Coast makes her seventh appearance on Beehive Candy with a new video for 'Lonely Planet', we've said many positive things about her superb indie rock, this song makes for a solid reminder why. === Sera is another artist who has impressed us on a number of occasions before and the new song 'Switch' continues that trend as the singer songwriter's distinctive style really pleases. === Priestgate recently shared 'Now' and the five piece Yorkshire, England band sound so good, refreshing and powerful that this is a fabulous song to be heard far and wide. === Hannah Georgas new song 'Just A Phase' sees the artist continue to release refined new music, her vocals shining above a sophisticated musical arrangement.

Grizzly Coast - Lonely Planet.
Late last summer, Alannah Kavanaugh (Grizzly Coast) and her partner bought a Volvo, named it Ducky, and headed west. On their month-long trip, the couple spent time in Badlands National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Oregon, Washington, The Cowichan Valley, Tofino, Vancouver, Banff + more. The footage from this trip was used for the "Lonely Planet" video.
Formerly performing as an acoustic singer-songwriter, the Toronto-based indie rock project (fronted by Alannah Kavanaugh) wears her expansion into full-band territory well. Written in 2018 when Kavanaugh was living alone, not very social, and being tossed about by her mental health, each track investigates solitude from different perspectives.
She never imagined that Party of One would drop during a time where others felt the same way on a mass scale. People need other people, and Kavanaugh hopes that these songs bring anyone who feels like she did a moment of comfort in an otherwise challenging period of disconnection.

Sera - Switch.
'SWITCH' - The brand new single by Welsh singer-songwriter SERA (Sera Zyborska).
Once again working with acclaimed producer Andi Crutwell-Jones, plus the notable contribution of Nico CJ on violin and Len Whitehead on Electric guitar makes a full-sounding, statement of a song that again blends all SERA's favourite parts of Americana, folk and pop with her storytelling and folklore album theme.
'SWITCH' is a bolt out of the dark, a harsh awakening. Empowerment.
Her album songs are all drawn from folklore and SWITCH is no different, drawing inspiration from Steam-punk, Frankenstein and the 'Freak Lab-accident' trope of the comic superhero. SERA's music is rooted in folk, Americana, singer-songwriter, with this track taking a further leap into energetic pop.
SERA 'When I Wake Up' Album. The brand new album by SERA is out on CD July 31st (pre-orders from July 17th) and on digital and streaming platforms from August 14th. The album is a collection of 11 tracks, all inspired by folklore. This album takes a little bit of folk, Americana, singer-songwriter and pop and mixes it in a musical cauldron!

Priestgate - Now.
Priestgate are a 5 piece indie band from Driffield, East Yorkshire consisting of Rob Schofield (vocals), Connor Bingham (lead), Cameron Sampson (bass), Bridie Stagg (drums) and Isaac Ellis (rhythm).
After a stellar year of experimentation, abstraction and performing to ever more enlivened crowds, they are now constructing something new in their psychoactive soundscape. Keep your ears free of protection, and your eyes covered with your favourite goggles in anticipation for the next time you encounter Priestgate beaming; bright sonics advance your way.
Discussing ‘NOW’, Priestgate explain: ‘NOW’ is our ode to understanding life the way it really stands. As a band and group of friends, we all know we have made our fair share of mistakes. We also know that everyone listening has made their fair share too, and will continue to mess up inevitably along the way in their individual journeys, just as equally as we will too.
Our collective perception of the experiences in our youth have been distilled and refined into ‘NOW’. We have taken inspiration from RIDE, The Cure and Slowdive, curdling them together into a sonic tonic ready for fresh digestion and growth into our styles. The result is pulsing, rhythmic and breathing with young life.

Hannah Georgas - Just A Phase.
Last month, Toronto's Hannah Georgas announced her new LP All That Emotion (out September 4th on Brassland and Arts & Crafts) with the mesmeric lead single "Dreams." Produced by The National's Aaron Dessner, the album has already attracted an enthusiastic critical response with "Dreams" — along with a pair of pre-announce singles "That Emotion" and "Same Mistakes.
Hannah Georgas is sharing a new offering from the LP, a track called "Just A Phase," a warm, enveloping track that seamlessly melds propulsive electronics with Georgas' measured tones. With lyrics that focus on change, resiliency and anxiety the song finds an encompassing calm while presenting a buzzing hive of sonic ideas.
The accompanying video shares an insider’s view of the album's recording sessions and what came after. Primarily, it’s a tour of Dessner’s iconic Long Pond studio—which is recognizable from its portrayal on the cover art of The National’s Best Alternative Grammy winning album Sleep Well Beast, but also features footage from the year Georgas spent on the road singing in The National's touring band around the release of their 2019 LP I Am Easy To Find.
“We recorded All That Emotion in concentrated periods of time with breaks in between," says Georgas. "I had never made an album this way before. It was also the first time making an album outside of Canada which was a really unique experience. It was nice to make solo road trips to Upstate NY from Toronto knowing that the stretch of time recording will solely be dedicated to being as creative and as open as possible. Then last year, I had the opportunity to join The National on the road singing back ups for them and opening up in a few cities in Europe and North America.”
The video acts as a travelogue and journal of those before times, including footage of her long drives across the Canadian border — glimpses of tour life with the band — and ending with her listening to a test pressing of the forthcoming album.

Grizzly Coast - Katie Wood
Grizzly Coast returns with 'End Of The Night' just a month after we shared 'Catch and Release' and again her indie rock impresses, this time with a powered up and hook filled song. === This weekend Katie Wood released 'Uh Huh Yeah' a self produced track that focuses on her struggle with agoraphobia and doing so with a fine musical arrangement and her stylish vocals.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grizzly Coast - End Of The Night.
From the imaginative, yet highly-analytical mind of Alannah Kavanagh comes Grizzly Coast, the Toronto-based indie rock project with heavy-hitting instrumentation that tears up the stage and heavy-lifting lyrical narratives that compel you to think deeper.
Formerly performing as an acoustic singer-songwriter, Kavanagh wears her expansion into full-band territory well on the brand new Party of One EP.
Grizzly Coast’s newest single, “End of the Night,” is about leaving your creature comforts to go have fun around others. It evokes the dearly missed, brimming energy of live music through an upbeat melody and fuzzy/almost triumphant guitar lines.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katie Wood - Uh Huh Yeah.
There's a place that exists somewhere between the past and future, that isn’t now. A kingdom of flamboyance, eccentricity and otherworldly hues and a desire for charm beyond the physical. This is where you will find Katie Wood, music for the electric, songs that permeate the heart, lyrics that reveal your power, and a voice to remember. Welcome to her world.
Following the successful release of “Steve”, Wood is unveiling “Uh huh Yeah”. The self-produced track narrates the singer’s struggle with agoraphobia and the powerless feeling it entails. Wood confides, “I couldn’t face leaving my flat, let alone go to work or see my friends and I just felt so powerless. So the song is about that feeling and in many ways accepting it as a way to move on through it, I do believe that you have to face your fears to overcome them.”
“Uh huh Yeah” depicts everything that comes with agoraphobia - the frustration, anger and resentment, but also hope and self-acceptance. Detailing the journey of finding light at the end of the tunnel, Wood has crafted a poignant song of sincerity and self-discovery. “Uh huh Yeah” features muted tones, 80’s drums and emotional, raspy vocals reminiscent of Haim meets Kate Bush. Drenched in ethereal backing vocals, Wood has established a distinct sound and strong identity that is entirely her own.
Wood’s music is immersed in emotion, using writing as a form of escapism and expression. The musician shares, “All of my music has a kind of sarcastic charm to it, even though I mainly write about my own life experiences I don’t actually take myself ALL that seriously and it’s part of who I am - to use humour alongside somewhat depressing and solemn subjects.”
The London based artist is heavily inspired by the likes of post-punk and new wave bands such as Blondie, The Cure and Echo and the Bunnymen, as well as the glam rock days of T. Rex and Bowie. Soaking up the heavy, distorted sounds of these artists, Wood presents it in a beautiful and graceful delivery.
Having garnered acclaim from the likes of Billboard, MTV and the BBC, Wood hopes that her music will continue to enable others to feel powerful and like they’re not alone in this world. She is on a mission to help listeners be as authentic as possible and to overcome their hardships and fears.

Lesley Barth - Grizzly Coast - Bee Bee Sea - Rett Smith
Lesley Barth is back just a month after we featured 'Woman Looking Back at Me' with the new song 'Nashville' which mixes folk with a good hint of country and sounds beautiful. === Making her fifth appearance on Beehive Candy Grizzly Coast returns with 'Catch and Release' and it's another refined indie rocker where the melodic vocals shine. === We have to go back to 2017 for our only other feature for Bee Bee Sea however it's good our paths have crossed again with 'Daily Jobs' a fiery garage psych track amassed with hooks. === Rett Smith shares the second single, 'Hardship Highways,' from his upcoming album 'Giving Up On Quitting' and it's a lyrically reflective singer-songwriter piece with some good solid rock vibes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lesley Barth - Nashville.
We are excited to share the second single, "Nashville" from NYC singer-songwriter Lesley Barth. The county-tinged track reflects on finding self-actualization and is a celebration of country music through a neon cowboy lens.
Lesley's remarks on the "Nashville": I challenged myself to write 30 songs in 30 days to celebrate turning 30 (i.e. avoid thinking about turning 30), and this song came out of that. I was still working at my corporate job at a tech company, and I ostensibly wrote this song about a guy my husband played with once, who had a great voice and presence and wrote good country tunes, but played in bars in New York City.
Of course, I realized later this song was about me and my feeling that I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. I think we all have places, settings, jobs, that make us feel more or less comfortable in our own skin. I’ve played this song in nearly every live solo set the past two years and it’s often a crowd favorite, so it’s exciting to share the full-band version. I wanted it to have a bit of that neon cowboy camp, and I’m really happy with the unexpectedness of the production.

Grizzly Coast - Catch and Release.
Grizzly Coast’s newest single, “Catch & Release,” explores how good it feels to be boundless in this world with nothing holding you back. Powerful guitars and a fun melody evoke feelings of joy.
From the imaginative, yet highly-analytical mind of Alannah Kavanagh comes Grizzly Coast, the Toronto-based indie rock project with heavy-hitting instrumentation that tears up the stage and heavy-lifting lyrical narratives that compel you to think deeper.
Formerly performing as an acoustic singer-songwriter, Grizzly Coast wears her expansion into full-band territory well, having toured her powerful and effervescent live show throughout Ontario and Alberta, including opening slots for Fast Romantics, Begonia, and Exclaim! magazine’s Class of 2020. Grizzly Coast blends her trademark thoughtful lyricism with dreamy guitar rock sensibilities on her singles Forever, Half-Light Boy and High-Functioning, and is releasing her debut EP this spring.

Bee Bee Sea - Daily Jobs.
Italian garage-psych trio Bee Bee Sea return with new track 'Daily Jobs'. The single is taken from their upcoming new album 'Day Ripper', released on 9th October on Wild Honey Records.
'Daily Jobs' is the opening track of the new album, and it encapsulates its sound and themes in the space of just over 3 minutes. Frenzied riffs, sharp tempo shifts, melodic choruses, euphoric singalongs: they are all in there representing life's manic ups and downs and the all-consuming thirst for hope, release and escapism. "The prospect of having a shitty job for the rest of our lives can be suffocating. This song, and the album as a whole, are basically the summary of our lives in the last couple of years, split between working in a factory during the day and playing our music at night. Night is a dream and a day... Day Ripper!".
Hailing from Castel Goffredo in Lombardy, Italy, Bee Bee Sea formed in 2013 and have since released two albums: the self-titled debut in 2015 and 'Sonic Boomerang' in 2017. They have been consistently touring in Europe, the UK and the US, supporting the likes of Thee Oh Sees, Black Lips and Idles.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rett Smith - Hardship Highways.
Texan born and LA based singer/songwriter/guitarist Rett Smith shares the second single, “Hardship Highways,” from his upcoming album Giving Up On Quitting. The album will be released on May 22nd via Imperial/Republic. The track follows Smith’s debut single Better Day which was recently featured by American Songwriter. Both tracks are available now on fine digital platforms everywhere.
Between the guitar chops and old soul lyricism, Rett Smith’s work gives the impression that Smith has been a musician his whole life. In fact, he only discovered his talent for playing music after walking away from his successful career as an internationally competing downhill skier.
Though Smith is no longer a professional athlete, that same intense drive and focus that allowed him to flourish as an athlete is what pushes him as a musician. Even with the undeniably raw tone of his songs, Smith insists that making music is something that fills him with gratitude and joy. Smith says, “I feel an undying need to create, to translate my most extreme feelings and emotions through song...” His love for writing songs while also using it as a therapeutic outlet is what keeps pushing him forward.
The new single “Hardship Highways” is likely the best example on the album of Smith turning the bumpy road of life into a sonically rich song. The track is a tale of a life lived on the edge as Smith recounts bad choices and mistakes fueled by drugs and alcohol. He isn’t looking for redemption or pity; he is simply sharing his life with the listener knowing that somebody out there has likely been down the same road.
“That's one of the most literal songs on the record because it's just hanging on those truths. Things get better but I don't get better. It's floating through scenarios that happened - everything in that song is true,” he says, adding that lingering beneath the pain and sadness of the narrative is a sense of optimism. “I want things to get better and I don't want to live in this space of just being miserable.” Dealing with these issues and fighting to get better is a recurring theme across the songs on Giving Up On Quitting.

Dancing On Tables - Not To Need You.
Dancing On Tables are a five-piece pop-rock band from Dunfermline, Scotland, who formed as bored school friends that happened to play the right instruments. It has been a whirlwind journey for Robbie, Callum, Gregor, Hamish and Reece, which has seen them grow from playing friend’s parties and school halls, to supporting Catfish and the Bottlemen as part of their UK arena tour.
Recent releases saw the band perform at the likes of Latitude, The Great Escape and Dot to Dot festivals; bag spots on New Music Friday, The Pop List and other Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists; become the sound of Schuh x Adidas and multi-year Scottish Water advertising campaigns; perform sessions for Shazam and STV; soundtrack opening credits of hit TV show Made in Chelsea; and be named one of Variety Magazine’s “10 Brits to Watch.”
As well as a 14 date UK tour, Spring 2020 will see the band release their highly anticipated next EP; where they can count American chart-topping writers Liz Rose (Taylor Swift, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood) and Seth Ennis (The Band CAMINO), cult indie-star Only Real and Grammy winner Femke Weidema amongst the people involved with highly anticipated new material. The first single is the emotive, indie-pop banger ‘Not To Need You’ - Exploring the bands melancholic side, it’s a track that was written in Nashville alongside legendary songwriter Liz Rose. On writing the track, the band state
“Writing the track felt more like therapy than a songwriting session. We talked about all the difficulties we faced in life as we told stories of failed friendships and heartaches, before agreeing that we wanted a song that would encapsulate the pain and hurt that people go through in life, but ultimately show that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The track focuses on someone ending a reliance on someone else, but we wanted the track to apply to all uphill battles, and for “the best part of starting over, is not to need you anymore” to give people hope that things will always get better.”

The Reverse - Crush My Chest With Your Hate.
North London guitar band The Reverse announce the release of their new album Which Way Out on 24 April via Blang Records, and share the album opening track ‘Crush My Chest With Your Hate’, a furious reverb drenched and darkly caustic song lamenting a culture of hate and envy that has led to the dehumanisation of refugees, and the disturbing rise of the far-right.
‘Crush My Chest With Your Hate’ is a befitting taster for Which Way Out, which the band describe as an album influenced “by the personal and the political with more than a little darkness but also plenty of humour.” The Reverse’s sound is a an urgent and literate style of indie-rock that’s been likened to “Belle and Sebastian meets Pulp meets Lloyd Cole,” with a dark and twisted nod to Britpop’s more irreverently humoured acts such as David Devant & His Spirit Wife and The Auteurs; a hint of post-punk in the Wire-esque chugging guitar riffs; and touches of both the gothic and alt-folk.
Which Way Out was recorded whilst the band performed together in order to capture the essence of their live sets, with the album moving through energetic rock songs to more delicate acoustic laments, offering nuanced tone shifts through emotional and stylistic ranges. Frontman and lyricist Nathan Loughran’s delivery veers from anger and sarcasm to vulnerability and compassion, unsurprising with influences including iconic purveyors of the raw and laid bare truth, such as Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
The sardonic album track ‘Nobody Likes You, Everybody Hates You’ explores all that divides us in increasingly binary terms, with a deliciously darkly humoured swipe at everyone from The Sun newspaper through to Jeremy Kyle. Whilst ‘Abstract Heart’- one of DJ Gary Crowley’s top songs of the year on BBBC Radio London – is another heavier rock-edged track, an anti-love song narrating the broken people destroyed by the less-than-perfect reality of the romantic dream, played out to a backdrop of chugging Wire-esque riffs.
Then there’s the classic British observational song-writing on songs such as ‘Nothing on Telly’ which offers a kind of kitchen-sink storytelling realism worthy of Pulp. Whilst tracks like ‘Kill Us All’ recall the aforementioned 90’s band The Auteurs with its tongue in cheek misanthropy (“You seem nice, you talk a lot but I don’t need new friends when I hate the ones I’ve got” – ‘Kill Us All’).
Then there are the album’s more fragile and naked moments with ‘A Vague Arrangement’ and ‘Skimming Stones’, offering Nathan Loughran’s standard laid bare honesty but laced with a gentler, more compassionate touch - and the appearance of Teresa Kelly’s delicate vocal. The songs explore the vulnerability of falling in love and the fragility of the human existence, offering up a softer side to The Reverse and another shade in Which Way Out’s many nuances.
Which Way Out is probably best described as an album realistically reflecting human existence in today’s troublesome times, with an unafraid exploration of dark subject matter, but also of life’s flickering and hopeful warm light.

We Three Kings - S’alright (G.O.T.I.T).
We Three Kings are a no-nonsense three piece rock ’n’ roll band from Manchester, UK with a balls-out sound that blends fuzzed up blues-rock into three minute mini miracles of pure joy.
With Rich on vocals and guitar, Ben on bass and Pete on drums, their riff-driven guitar-heavy sound is perfect for a playlist alongside Rival Sons, Royal Blood, The Black Keys, Queens of the Stone Age, Wolfmother and The White Stripes. S’alright (G.O.T.I.T) is a razor sharp reminder of the power of monstrous riffs turned up to 11.
An unpretentious live act with a massive, balls-out sound, 2019 singles ‘Give It To Me, GO!’, ‘Do It’ & ‘Gasoline’ achieved widespread critical acclaim, including radio airplay on BBC Introducing, Planet Rock Radio & Amazing Radio, with ‘Give It To Me, GO!’ also featuring on Classic Rock Magazine’s cover- mounted CD, July 2019. The band’s back catalogue includes a further two five-track EPs: 'EMBERS' (2016) and ‘FIRE’ (2018), and is available to stream across all digital platforms.

Sea Offs - For Familiarity's Sake.
Indie-folk duo Sea Offs share their latest single release "For Familiarity's Sake" from the forthcoming EP 'En Root' out March 27th, 2020 via Independent Release. The two have quite an unlikely connection. Rashmit comes from Mumbai and Olivia from Pittsburgh. The two met in college over a love of atmospheric folk and a shared socio-political belief system. Since joining forces, they've opened for acts like Girlpool, The Shacks, and Pinegrove.
Sea Offs is the meeting ground for songwriters Olivia Price and Rashmit Arora. Rashmit hails from Mumbai, India; Olivia from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The two met and started writing together in college, bonding over a love of atmospheric folk music and a shared socio-political belief system. Currently, they split time between Philadelphia and Brooklyn.
Together, their tender blend of brooding folk music and ethereal instrumentation that takes cues from classics like Joni Mitchell and Neil Young with a more expansive and progressive ethos adjacent to Wye Oak or Hayley Henderickx. Following the band’s 2016 debut EP Sea the Blind Sea Offs toured the northeast most notably supporting Girlpool, The Shacks, and Hodera, and has shared festival stages with Pinegrove, Hop Along, and Frankie Cosmos.
Their forthcoming EP En Root sees the band tackling themes of love in its many different forms. Olivia writes, “The first single (“Will (you)”) discusses body ownership in a relationship – the detachment one can feel sexually when there is no emotional connection to serve as a basis. Ultimately, it’s about an undefined relationship I was in where I tried to force meaning into what was actually just a physical outlet. In the years following my college graduation, I repeatedly found myself in “flings” with people who, I felt, viewed me as nothing more than a sexual object. It’s an identity I felt forced into and extremely uncomfortable assuming.”

Ethel & The Chordtones - Make You Mine.
Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Ethel & the Chordtones consists of vocalist Julie Hardy and guitarist/producer Mike MacAllister. Ethel’s bluesy swagger marks a return to Hardy’s roots as a jazz and blues songstress.

Their single “Trouble (ft. Ryan Levine of Wildling) (2015) was featured in the Entourage The Movie film trailer. “Serious Craving” the second single off their EP “Trouble” can be heard on advertisements for Diet Coke, Lexus, and Haagen Daz.

Maija Sofia - Grizzly Coast - Shadowlark
Maija Sofia has released 'The Glitter' a soothing and quite peaceful song. The vocals and lyrics are simply outstanding and the musical arrangement equally special.
Back in April we featured 'Half-Light Boy' by Grizzly Coast and now she (Alannah Kavanagh) returns with 'High-Functioning'. It's an energised indie rocker loaded with some deep digging hooks.
Shadowlark return with 'Huntress' taken from their debut E.P. 'Bleed My Heart' of which we featured the title track just a month ago. Described as "ambient and atmospheric" this expansive, melodic and dreamy track is one of four songs on the new release.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maija Sofia - The Glitter.
Irish art-folk virtuoso Maija Sofia (Trapped Animal Records) has released the first single from debut full-length 'Bath Time' (November 22).
'The Glitter' tells the story of Jean Rhys, a troubled novelist from the Caribbean who came to England aged 16 and struggled with feelings of displacement and a lack of belonging. Fragmented guitars and yearning violin fuse with her biting vocal to make something truly unique.
Speaking on the track, Maija said: ““The Glitter was inspired by my experience of reading the book 'Good Morning, Midnight' by Jean Rhys, a heavily depressing but brilliant novel about a lonely, self- destructive and impulsive woman living in 1930s Paris. The song came about with Jean Rhys in mind, and the influence her novels had on my past self.
“It's about having a tendency to romanticise and the desperate feeling of realising you've fallen out of love but are still trying to cling to something. It was recorded in a little studio in Dublin, with Christophe Capewell (who plays with cult Irish folk singer Lisa O'Neill) on violin and Niall Murphy on lap steel. Christophe ended up playing on the track after I was stranded at a festival in Leitrim and Lisa's band kindly offered me a midnight lift back to Dublin in their tour van.”
As well as drawing on women from the history books who were silenced and misrepresented - Bridget Cleary, Edie Sedgwick and Mary of Nazareth - Sofia also takes aim at the catholic church, an institution that normalises outdated views of women in Irish society.
Written between London, Galway and Dublin, ‘Bath Time’ features appearances from alternative folk singer Junior Brother and lap steel player Niall Murphy (Oh Boland). The former, Junior Brother, appears on ‘The Wife of Michael Clearly’, a bristling tribute to Bridget Cleary, who died at the hands of her husband Michael. The latter, Niall Murphy, starring on ‘Edie Sedgwick’, a track named after the muse of Andy Warhol.

Grizzly Coast - High-Functioning.
Grizzly Coast is the musical project of Toronto based indie-rock musician Alannah Kavanagh. Her interest in writing, mixed with her lifelong affinity for playing music led her to blend the two mediums on her stand-alone singles, "Half-Light Boy" and "Zuzu’s Petals".
She has spent 2019 touring throughout Ontario and Alberta with her band and preparing for her EP release in early 2020.
Her new single – "High-Functioning" – serves as a reminder that the surface-level doesn’t illustrate the whole picture. With a high-energy melody and bouncy riffs, the song evokes the feeling of chaos you experience when your anxious thoughts are starting to run you while you’re trying your best to keep up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shadowlark - Huntress.
Leeds threepiece Shadowlark have released their debut EP Bleed My Heart and lead single Huntress, which are both available to stream and buy now.
Following on from last year’s single Hunger, the band recently released the title track to their EP Bleed My Heart, alongside a powerful cinematic video. Produced and mixed by long-term collaborator Dan Austin (Massive Attack, Biffy Clyro, Doves), the Bleed My Heart EP expands on the band’s unique ethereal and poignant sound across four tracks, including lead track Huntress.
Huntress is a poignant ambient song about disloyalty, which profoundly pulls you in through the haunting and atmospheric vocals. Lead singer Ellen says;
“It’s about recovering from betrayal. I think it’s a beautiful song, I love it very much. It’s actually kind of developed a bit of a new context for us since I wrote it and we’re relating to it in new ways. But it’s always been about being a fighter, keeping your head up high, eyes on the prize and learning what you can use to make yourself better, to feel better, to be better.”
Influenced by artists such as Portishead, War on Drugs and Bat For Lashes, Shadowlark are proud of their Northern roots and wear their hearts on their sleeves through their introspective and emotive alt-pop sound, which is a portrayal of real-life experiences and genuine everyday reality. As the band say; “we write real songs about real things that happen, and we play them to real people who care and will connect with them because these things happen to them too.”

Grizzly Coast - KEYS - William Steffey - Super Paradise - Candy Says
Grizzly Coast shares a personal yet resolute song that engages from the opening notes. KEYS gutsy rock and roll is to the point and wonderfully stripped back on 'Black and White'. The album 'Reality Jockey' by William Steffey is presented in full below, as he takes us on an impressive musical trip across genres and styles. '6:30' from Super Paradise is a whirlwind of instrumental garage rock interspersed with electronic moments (yep you'll have to listen). Candy Says electro pop has a moody feel on 'Gravity' as it's intricacy and hooks work wonders.
Grizzly Coast - Half-Light Boy.
My new single, “Half-Light Boy,” is about the sobering realization that not every person you encounter will have the same heart as you. Someone else’s lack of care for you is often due to something lacking in them – it is never an expression of what you deserve.
I was walking home from the grocery store one evening, lugging way too many bags for one girl to carry comfortably. Passing by a venue, I noticed that someone who once held a big place in my life was playing a show there that very night.
There was a time when I felt close to this person. Having always been one of their biggest supporters, not getting an invite to their show that was right in my neighbourhood left me feeling pretty small. I went home and wrote this new song as a confrontation that I knew I would never bother to actually have.
My friend, Taylor Lucas, produced “Half-Light Boy” in his home studio. He also produced my previous single, “Zuzu’s Petals,” and is set to produce my album. It’s always fun working with Taylor; he’s so talented and has great ideas! - Grizzly Coast.

KEYS - Black and White.
‘There you will find them, tucked away in between The Stooges ‘Fun House’ and John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band the KEYS, the band you never knew you needed until they changed your life.
Over four Albums, Eps and countless Singles during this millennium the KEYS have become a mythical presence on the Welsh musical landscape. The timeless quality of the band’s music, touches on the wide eyed wonder and boundless possibilities of the sixties pop song, West Coast harmonies, Motown backbeat and the aggression of post 1968 proto-punk, sets them apart as true believers in the communion of Rock and Roll. KEYS are very much a band for the here and now, shaping music from the moon dust of the past into a re-imagined future that is all theirs for the taking.’ – Libertino Records
‘Black and White’ is the confident and bold return of the KEYS. The single was recorded during the productive two days session for the band’s new album in Miner’s Welfare club, lost in the Neath Valley.
Matt Evens, the band’s singer and songwriter, explains the background and the writing process of ‘Black and White’: “I wrote it while playing the drums on my own one morning. I was trying to write a modern-day nursery rhyme so it’s kept really simple. Then it went through the KEYS machine and came out all reverb guitars and maracas. It starts off Scout Niblett and ends up all Stooges with some Ron Asheton-style wah-wah thrown into the mix. It’s still a very sparse arrangement though which is the point. The lyric comes from something a photographer said to us once “Don’t worry, they’ll look alright in Black and White”; Gwion (Lead Guitar) used to quote it all the time in a jokey way so it ended up finding a melody.”

William Steffey - Reality Jockey.
Chicago native William Steffey is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist with an extensive background that has found him challenging his creativity with every single, EP, album and music video.
Throughout his musical journey, Steffey has explored a wide range of genres; his songs range from rock and new wave to pop and electronic music.
Steffey’s new studio album, the much-anticipated Reality Jockey, features 11 tracks, including two instrumental passages with tonal and temporal components based on the ‘Golden Section,’ a ratio that occurs frequently in nature as witnessed by the spiraling pattern of sunflowers, the proportions of the human body and the way billions of stars swirl together to form our galaxy. The songs on Reality Jockey also embrace Steffey’s trademark versatility; each track illustrates his ability to bring different influences and sounds together under one roof.
The production of the album is on par with the quality of the songwriting; the tracks have a clear, punchy and sophisticated tone. The music sounds crisp without falling into the trap of overproduction.
Ultimately, Reality Jockey is an authentic snapshot of Steffey’s artistic personality. The record channels his background as well as his ongoing passion for new musical direction. Like his previous releases, this project is about blending uncompromising creativity with appealing melodies.

Super Paradise - 6:30.
Forming in Milan, Super Paradise, founded by Francesco Roma and Nicolò Spreafico, brought their self-styled dream-garage sound to London, releasing their debut album in 2016. From here it’s become a relentless live project, playing numerous scuzzy headline and support shows across the city’s buzziest venues, honing their distorted and hook-laden tunes. Joining Francesco and Nicolò for this endeavour is Anna Arfen (keys), Charlie Davis (bass) and Bradley Hillier-Smith (Drums).
Dropping infectious Lo-Fi singles and EPs over the last year or so with a sound somewhere between Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall and early Pixies demos, has nourished the live set. Tunes are often accompanied by highly stylised visuals, and their volatile new single 6:30 follows suit both sonically and aesthetically, whilst stepping things up in the energy stakes.
“The main inspiration came from “6:30” as a Caribbean dance move” explains lead vocalist Francesco, “I like that it could also mean 6:30am, dawn. End of the night, end of the dance. It’s always a bit of a weird time. You could still be out after an insane night, yet you’ll walk past people who are doing the complete opposite on their way to work. There’s a bit of uncertainty about it.”
This uncertainty is reflected in the sound. Flitting between dreamy segments and gritty riffs, tempos and rhythms shift around too to echo the confusion. It’s noise, tamed to inspire both emotion and energy in the listener.
“What we wanted to do with this track was create something which immediately jumped out and grabbed attention. The track starts with a hook that’s fast, impactful, frenetic and catchy, before taking the listener to unexpected places on a distorted journey of shifting tone and dynamics. Throughout we’re building anticipation, before unleashing a crescendo of noise, finally tying it back and returning unexpectedly to the original hook.”

Candy Says - Gravity.
Beanie Tapes is excited to announce the return of Oxford electro-pop band Candy Says with a new EP You Are Beautiful; We Are All Beautiful, to be released 7 June 2019 on cassette and digital. The band released the EP offline in November 2018, selling it exclusively on cassette at gigs as a protest against streaming culture and to reward the fans who turn up to support live music. The first two limited edition cassette runs sold out in two weeks. The new online version (and the third edition of the cassette) includes an extra track “Beautiful Feeling”, which was penned for the recent Netflix film Close, reached the Top 100 in the international Shazam charts.
The first track to be released is Gravity, a sultry pop tune whose bold beats and vintage synths have drawn comparisons to Christine & the Queens, Art School Girlfriend and The Knife. Julia Walker (singer/guitarist/songwriter) explains: “I was feeling empty and trying to find a connection with myself and my relationship. I desperately wanted to write an upbeat song but I’m coming to realise that I have a melancholy inside that I can’t seem to suppress not matter how hard I try.”
Gravity’s dream-like video was directed by frequent Beanie Tapes collaborator Siobhan Cox and features Julia returning from a night out and falling apart behind closed doors, where she can finally let her guard down. “I’m a very emotional person but I’m good at avoiding how I truly feel. I suppose we all do that to a certain extent, it’s how we survive. When we accept that we feel lonely, that we miss someone, a warmth, a feeling, that’s when we learn about who we are. Sometimes these feelings are impossible to understand, you feel like you’re drifting, empty and no matter how hard you try to find something to help you connect, you just can’t. I like reflecting that disconnect with the mechanical production feel and then my voice and lyrics being the conduit to finding the connection”
Candy Says recently recruited drummer Silke Blansjaar of Oxford indie punk favourites Self Help and are on tour with the new 3-piece line-up. Despite the melancholy lyrics, the Candy Says live show is somehow always uplifting. Nightshift again: “It’s like they’re on a mission to brighten up the entire world, one infectious slice of pop at a time.”

Grizzly Coast - FRITZ
Grizzly Coast - Zuzu's Petals.
Background from Grizzly Coast - My background as a poet, mixed with my lifelong affinity for playing music, lead me to blending the two mediums on my debut album Gold Lined Path.
My new single, “Zuzu’s Petals,” showcases my expansion into a full-band sound, and my commitment to free-falling even deeper into my lyrics.
“Zuzu’s Petals” is about the feeling of self-assurance – something that struck me on a refreshing upswing that I rode after going through a breakup. Finding simple luxuries in both solitude and community, and really focusing on music were what brought me back home to myself. With the song’s upbeat tempo and lyrics, I aimed to evoke the excitement that you feel when you’re inspired by the boundless possibilities that exist in your future.
This video attempts to capture the growth and joy that solitude can bring, and frames it in a single summer’s day, FACEBOOK.
Grizzly Coast's vocals are quite beguiling as well as beautifully melodic. With 'Zuzu's Petals' we also have intelligent lyrics, a simple and attractive musical backdrop, that when combined together give us a fresh and uplifting song.

FRITZ - Summer Holiday.
Background - FRITZ takes on teenage heartbreak with the release of dreamy new single 'Summer Holiday' and the announcement of a debut headline tour and appearances at Brisbane's BIGSOUND.
Drenched in 90s VHS hues, the video features FRITZ (Tilly Murphy) and her band mates as indifferent members of the living dead in idyllic, (and normally) happy locations around Newcastle. Directed by FRITZ and Lazy Bones (Bronte Godden), the sinister visual undertones are inspired by FRITZ's admiration for The Cure's knack for seamlessly combining dark and poppy moods.
Lyrically, 'Summer Holiday' touches on incredibly relatable teenage emotions. "it's about losing friends, a boyfriend, and inner confidence, consecutively," says FRITZ. "It’s very over dramatic and naive though, considering I’m only 18 and basically singing about how being dumped by my first boyfriend was the worst thing that has ever happened to me, when really it wasn’t. 'Summer Holiday' is my favourite song I’ve written, or maybe just my favourite riff.”
'Summer Holiday' follows the huge success of FRITZ's 'Biggest Fool In The World', the hilarious video for which premiered on triple j Unearthed. Piquing the attention of taste-makers nationwide it gained multiple spins on triple j and was added to Spotify's Fresh Finds and Chords and Cardigans playlists in its first week.
2018 is clearly heating up for this bubbly dream-pop newcomer whose secret weapon is A+ on-stage banter and an infectious laugh. Following a huge formative live year supporting the likes of Fazerdaze, WAAX, Jess Locke, Cub Sport, Middle Kids, RAAVE TAPES, The Belligerents, Ruby Fields and FRITZ is finally taking her own show on the road. Following two BIGSOUND showcase parties and a spot on the sold out Yours & Owls festival lineup, the Newcastle native launches her first ever run of headline shows this October at intimate venues across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Wollongong. With so many shows up and down the Coast, there's no excuse for skipping that 'Summer Holiday' this year.
A bright dream pop song with more than a hint of slick indie rock 'Summer Holiday' is as infectious as it is charming. The video images bring out the songs retro vibe, one that gives this track even more character, concert goers down under have yet another sparkling band to enjoy in the coming months.
