Edie Carey - The Chain.

Folk/pop singer-songwriter Edie Carey is readying her latest collection of songs for her eleventh album The Veil due 6/3/22. Produced by Scott Wiley, the album features Grammy-nominated friend and frequent collaborator Rose Cousins and Mai Bloomfield (Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles). Throughout the twelve songs set, Carey weaves her “gentle story-telling, rich with humanity and insight.”

The first single, “The Chain,” was written with her friend and fellow Colorado songwriter Megan Burtt in her kitchen. “The Chain” is about feeling like we are never enough in the eyes of another, that no matter what we do or try to prove, their view of us remains unchanged. It’s a song of realization, of recognition and, ultimately, of letting go.

“You can’t quite believe how lucky you are to write a healing song with a friend in your kitchen and then get to witness the magic of it becoming something real and tangible and beyond what you could have imagined in the studio,” says Carey.

Annabel Gutherz - Retrograde.

“Retrograde” arrives on the heels of Annabel’s debut album, Loose Ends, which was released in late 2021. In contrast to the softer ballads that featured prominently on the album, Annabel's newest single taps into a more maximalist pop-rock sound. Filled with driving drums, anthemic production and deliciously infectious pop hooks, "Retrograde" represents the beginning of a fresh chapter for this rising artist.

Expanding on what inspired the track, she says: “I noticed a shared sentiment amongst my friends, family, and me in the wake of the pandemic — a feeling of stagnation in our respective ambitions and pursuits, or worse, a sense of retrogression. Upon having an insightful conversation with my mom, who seems to have a blueprint of life's greatest lessons, I came to the understanding that no one is ever stagnant. We are always learning, growing, and moving forward as a result... In other words, we are ‘never in retrograde.'"

Annabel Gutherz is a singer-songwriter hailing from Montreal, Canada. Combining her compelling and diaristic storytelling with honeyed melodies, distinct vocals and her keen musical ear, Annabel’s songs take listeners on a heartfelt journey packed with raw honesty and emotional conviction. Fiercely committed to her craft, Annabel graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Music Studies and is now completing her Master’s of Arts degree in Songwriting at Berklee as well.

Annabel ended last year with the release of her debut album, Loose Ends, a stylistically eclectic yet entirely authentic record that cathartically encapsulates life’s unfinished moments. The album was co-produced by Dominique Messier, a long time band member for Céline Dion and owner of Studio Piccolo in Montreal, Canada.

Jesper Lindell feat. Amy Helm - Twighlight.

Swedish Americana singer Jesper Lindell’s second album, Twilights (coming March 18, 2022), is a creative tour de force, a compelling mix of blue-eyed soul and down-to-earth classic rock, a timeless sound coming anew from Scandinavia. During two years of setbacks – weathering label issues, a pandemic, cancelled tours, and a kidney disease to boot – Jesper and his band had little else to do but write and record music.

The result is a remarkable new album recorded in their own studio in Brunnsvik, outside of Ludvika, Sweden. The record is produced by Lindell and Björn Pettersson, but is at its core a collaborative effort from the heart and soul of the whole band. This was fundamental to the recording sessions from the get-go – to encourage ideas and influences from all six members of the band.

As the cherry on top, the album has three luminous guest singers: Swedish singer Klara Söderberg, one half of sister-duo First Aid Kit; French rockstar Theo Lawrence; and American singer Amy Helm, daughter of The Band’s Levon Helm. Though Twilights is inspired by legends like The Band and Van Morrison, the point has never been to copy or even imitate, but to listen and learn. To emulate an attitude, more than anything, and to follow their example in the creative process.

The Blue Chevys - Got that Feeling.

“A band that has crossed many rivers to bring you roots music that stirs your soul.” The magic recipe behind The Blue Chevys remains a secret, but it deserves credit that they have been able to keep the band together for more then 30 years. Besides friendship, it’s without doubt based on the willingness and desire to keep evolving by combining Rhythm & Blues, Rock & Roll and Americana. The new album “ The Night Calls” is the perfect example. A beautiful eclectic mix which reflects perfectly how the band successfully intertwines different roots styles with only one purpose and that is to stir your soul.

In 2019, The Blue Chevys is celebrating its 30 years anniversary and the band is touring to support the release of a compilation album ‘Twice Fifteen”, that clearly proves the band’s evolution throughout the years. Thanks to some live concert broadcasts on Belgium national radio Classic21 and Nancy WebTV in France, the fan-base grows throughout Belgium and France.

However, this is not where the story ends. The journey continues as The Blue Chevys is to release its next album “The Night Calls” on the respected Belgium roots-label NAKED in March 2022. The first singles of the album, “Willow Tree” and “Got that Feeling”, are been well received and guarantee many more years of fun and livemusic! Current Members: Kris Bries ( Vocals & Harp), Frederic Martello (Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals), Philippe Martello (Percussion), JeanLuc Cremens (Bass Guitar), Sven Smekens (Rhythm Guitar), Kim Vandeweyer (Trumpet) en Koen Desloovere (Saxophone).

Lost Tuesday Society - Annabel Gutherz - Charm of Finches - Sylvie

Lost Tuesday Society - Lights.

Swansea Folk-pop aficionados ‘Lost Tuesday Society’ have announced a brand new album entitled ‘Bee Skin Rug’ which will be released independently on Friday 22nd of October.

‘Lights’ the first single to be taken from the ‘Bee Skin Rug’ album is a terrific uplifting burst of energy that works as a fantastic preview of what we can expect from their new works. Harmony flooded and certainly becoming a real automatic-earworm, ‘Lights’ really excels and shows off ‘Lost Tuesday Society’s new material to a T, and accompanied with the production of acclaimed long-time friend and producer Joe Gibb, LTS are kitted out to establish themselves as a tour de force in their respected genres.

Lost Tuesday Society are Jay Browning (bass) Alfie Scheinman (guitar, flute, vocals) Sarah Birch (guitar, vocals) Darran Browning (guitar, vocals) Simon Jones (drums) Kate Ronconi (violin, vocals). Lost Tuesday Society are a 6 piece band who have collectively come from a variety of differing musical backgrounds and therefore bring with them a range of personal influences; from traditional and alternative folk, grunge and shoe-gaze, funk, psychedelia and rock.

The result is a unique blend of music with intricate compositions, strong hooks and melody lines combining in a huge dynamic sound that has people up on their feet.

With four vocalists (Sarah, Kate, Darran and Alfie) in the band the harmonies are interesting, beautiful and an important element to the Lost Tuesday Society sound. With a heavier back line and driving rhythm section ( Jay and Simon) and two accomplished guitarists (in Alfie and Darran) the new material presented today has a maturity and edge which is beautifully enhanced by weaving strings (Kate),flute(Alfie) and melodica (Sarah).

Annabel Gutherz - Wild Side / Remnant.

Today, Montreal-based singer & songwriter Annabel Gutherz releases her debut album, Loose Ends. The 11-track record includes 6 previously released singles and 5 brand new tracks. The album was co-produced by Dominique Messier, a long time band member for Céline Dion and owner of Studio Piccolo in Montreal, Quebec.

Loose Ends is stylistically eclectic yet entirely authentic. It’s a comforting record that cathartically encapsulates life’s unfinished moments: “Many times in my life, I was unable to get closure. Instead, I was left to bear the weight of the words I never said and the inescapable memories that tethered me to my past, suspending time. Understanding my need to let go of these ‘loose ends,’ I turned to song,” Annabel says.

Throughout the album, Annabel explores these complex and imperfect defining life experiences with a diaristic touch. Her ardent and perspective storytelling is on full display, complimented by honeyed melodies, layered instrumentation and full-bodied vocals. She takes listeners on a journey as she writes from the heart with raw honesty and emotional conviction.

Annabel Gutherz made her debut in 2018 with the release of “Legends,” a philanthropic song whose proceeds are donated to education-based charities. After spending the past few years honing her musical talents at Berklee College of Music, the young singer-songwriter has come into her own as a promising artist to watch. On top of her musical endeavors and academic career, Annabel is the published author of children’s picture book series, Annie’s Pajammies. A portion of the proceeds from every Annie’s Pajammies unit sold is donated to help facilitate access to education in countries across the globe.

Charm of Finches - Heavy.

Sister indie-folk duo Charm of Finches today share their new single "Heavy," which is off of their forthcoming album Wonderful Oblivion, set for release on October 22nd.

According to the sisters, "This song is an expression of the sadness and frustration we feel about the state of the world. The song reflects on how, in this modern world, we have in many ways lost our connection to nature.

Consumerism and a culture of narcissism are coping mechanisms to fill the void where that future shock, emptiness and sadness would be." Featuring Mabel on vocals and cello, Ivy on vocals and violin, with Ledwell adding percussion, piano and synth bass, the song is beautifully melancholic and folk-inspired, delivering a timely and important message about our sacred connection with nature.

Sylvie - Shooting Star.

Sylvie's self-titled debut EP is due out this Friday on Terrible Records, and today the band are sharing a final single from the EP, a track called "Shooting Star," ahead of its upcoming release. The EP was announced in July alongside a feature on Aquarium Drunkard and the release of a single from which the band take their name.

That single is a cover of a song from an obscure 1970s record by Ian Matthews called Later That Same Year, and a track that serves as a partial inspiration for the band's existence. Before they adopted it as a name, the band (which is led by some time Drugdealer & Golden Daze member Benjamin Schwab and features Marina Allen and Sam Burton) started using the term "a Sylvie" to refer to "a song from the past that’s incredible but for whatever reason, is basically unknown," and the group's sound is a sort of homage to lost gems like Matthew's songs, and the recordings of Mad Anthony, the Southern California group that Benjamin's father John Schwab played in during the '70s.

The band's latest single shares a similar archival bent and an appreciation for the secret songwriting gems of both past and present Los Angeles. An unreleased song that Schwab first conceived of 10 years ago with a friend and fellow songwriter called Stanley Thiel, it's a track that took on personal significance to Schwab.

"This song was one that was floating around my world for a long time," Schwab explains. "It was conceived by my good friend Stanley Thiel a while ago. He is an unknown legendary songwriter in my eyes who has inspired me and other musicians around Los Angeles over the years. There are these songwriters like him who aren’t  in the scene and don’t really play the game, but who write incredible timeless songs. You won’t hear them unless you go looking for them. I wanted to put this song on some sort of a platform for people to hear and to acknowledge the song and him."

It was a mantra/anthem type song that our whole friend group knew and loved. It was never released, and my nostalgia for that period of my life was strong, remembering a time when collaboration and community was a lot easier than nowadays being in LA and pursuing music as a profession. The song was played many times by different people and
on a lot of camping trips where we would all sing it; I always loved that it brought people together. "

Gabrielle Ornate - Annabel Gutherz - Jenny Stevens and the Empty Mirrors - Lady Di - Reb Fountain - Oliv

Gabrielle Ornate - Waiting To Be Found.

Background from Gabrielle - My name is Gabrielle Ornate and I craft bohemian pop/rock tracks for the modern world. Kaleidoscopic soundscapes made from walls of epic synthesisers, adorned with riffing guitar and bass. Led by powerful vocals singing ethereal lyrics.

Think Kate Bush meets St. Vincent and Tame Impala brewed into a brand new sound of my own.

I’ve been releasing music since early this year and have received lots of playlist support on Spotify, reaching a combined streaming figure of almost 190,000 streams on my two singles.

I’ve also had radio support from BBC Introducing for each of my releases (including my upcoming single), as well as being featured in Tom Robinson’s Radio 6 Mixtape.

Annabel Gutherz - Remnant.

Singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz shares her new single and lyric video, “Remnant,” from her upcoming debut album ‘Loose Ends.’ “Remnant” is an emotionally poignant coming of age track. Atop Americana-influenced guitar and understated percussion, Annabel's soothing vocals croon about lost friendship: “You were someone that I used to know / But where oh where did that girl go / Now you’re just a remnant of that dear old friend / Stuck in the body of Miss Pretend.”

An ardent and perspective storyteller, Annabel's diaristic lyricism, honeyed melodies and full-bodied vocals take listeners on a journey as she writes from the heart with raw honesty and emotional conviction. On "Remnant," she uses the personal as a vehicle into the universal, capturing the complex mutability of friendships as we move from adolescence into adulthood."It’s a song about the evolution of a friendship from childhood to adolescence, and how the dynamic between two people can change as they grow… And sometimes grow apart," Annabel says.

Montreal-based singer-songwriter Annabel Gutherz made her debut in 2018 with “Legends,” a philanthropic song whose proceeds are donated to education-based charities. After spending the past few years honing her musical talents at Berklee College of Music, Annabel is now preparing to share her debut album, ‘Loose Ends.’ The 11-song record is due out later this year and was co-produced by Dominique Messier, a long time band member for Céline Dion and owner of Studio Piccolo in Montreal, Quebec.

Jenny Stevens and the Empty Mirrors - The River Rolls On.

Jenny Stevens, aka The Ukulele Girl, is a Welsh vocalist, musician and songwriter. On graduating from a Pop Music degree in the early 2000’s, Jen immediately bagged a singing job with her first pro band, and thereafter spent several years fronting various pop/rock cover acts, performing live to audiences across the UK.

After 20 years of singing other people’s songs, lockdown 2020 rather surprisingly saw a return to songwriting for Jen who, having not written a song since her late teens, began collaborating with musicians all over the globe on original material. The projects span a wide range of genres from Metal to EDM, via Rock, Blues, Country and Hip-hop. Many of these collaborative efforts, along with some of Jen’s solo tracks, have subsequently been released and are available on music platforms. Still a sucker for a cover, Jen enjoys returning to her performing roots, and every so often she can be seen covering songs in her characteristic jazzy/reggae style (yes that’s a thing!) in videos featuring her trusty ukulele, on her YouTube channel.

Although the international collaborations will keep coming, Jen is taking some time in 2021 to concentrate on her own solo material, as she has many of her own stories still to tell. Follow her on Spotify to keep up with her new releases.

The Empty Mirrors is a song project that specialises in quirkily visual and sometimes dark alt-pop. We tell stories you’ve never heard. We take you to places you’ve never been. You might feel a little wobbly afterwards, but it’ll pass. Our debut EP, ‘Puppets, Dance!’, was released in November 2020, followed by a single, ‘Kaleidoscope City’ (feat. Bruno Rocha), in March 2021.

Lady Di - Young Savage.

Norwich trio Lady Di release new single from their debut album ‘I know You Know I’m Perfect’.

Lady Di are made up of Lisa Horton, Iain Ross and Jan Robertson – all former members of art-rock/indie-pop outfit Bearsuit (Fortuna Pop / Fantastic Plastic). They are also the alter egos of synth poppers Mega Emotion.

They play grungy dumb-ass punk, inspired by drunk summer nights and the likes of The Breeders, Urusei Yatsura and The Lemonheads.

Following early radio support from John Kennedy at Radio X and BBC Introducing for their debut single ‘AAAAAA’ the band are pleased to reveal a new single ‘Young Savage’ from their debut album.

“I’m not scared of growing old, I am afraid of growing cold” sings Iain in this track about growing up and becoming a parent. It was recorded by Magoo’s Owen Turner in the wilds of Norfolk at Sickroom Studios.

Reb Fountain - Lacuna.

Alternative folk artist, Reb Fountain, is back in the spotlight today with her latest single, 'Lacuna' from upcoming album IRIS.

Reb Fountain’s 'Lacuna' is anthemic, poetic and rocking. "Less musician more a force of nature,” (Ambient Light), Reb’s single 'Lacuna' is sound evidence that IRIS captures the qualities of Reb’s enigmatic live performance and songwriting prowess in album form. Her rhythm section - Karin Canzek & Earl Robertson - form the backbone of of the song's landscape, illuminated by the expert production of Dave Khan & Simon Gooding, whilst Reb performs a masterful deep dive into our world and emerges with a tale of discovery and self exploration abound.

As with all of Reb’s writing there is an underbelly to the obvious. The strong rolling beat ushers the listener through what appears to be a tale of new love —"You know I can’t be whole with the sum of us apart". Reb reveals the bigger sense — “Lacuna is me describing what’s it like to grow into oneself, to wrestle with the intangible nature of our human condition, to see who we are. Unifying our many selves - the sum of our parts."

The 'Lacuna' video was shot in Queenstown, by director Lola Fountain-Best capturing Reb's vision of "exploration and transformation; a dance with our many selves". They fashioned wings out of wire and foliage and went to work filming rogue amongst autumnal skies and a forest of sunflowers.

Oliv - Too Much Love For You.

New Zealand-hailing hidden gem Oliv is back again with her shimmering second single, 'Too Much Love For You'.

From the picture-perfect coastal town of Nelson, Oliv is gliding onto the scene with her own ethereal brand of indie pop, weaving angelic vocals and glittering synths to narrate and navigate the intricacies of human emotion. 'Too Much Love For You' is no exception, showcasing Oliv's raw and vulnerable lyricism amidst dreamy layers of instrumentation. "It is a song about giving someone more love than you get in return and the aftermath of leaving that relationship without blaming yourself for its ending," Oliv explains.

Previously collaborating with BAYNK, Sachi and Flight Facilities, Oliv has racked up over 70 million streams to her song writing name and is now channelling her talent into her solo project. For Oliv, music has always been a form of self-expression and with her calm charisma and strong inner compass, she never fails to inject her heart and soul into everything she creates. As a blossoming artist, Oliv has already been turning heads with her debut single 'If You Find A Way To Heaven', receiving almost 200,000 streams and landing herself a spot on Spotify's Soft Glow playlist beside soft pop superstars like Troye Sivan, Clairo and Sufjan Stevens.

Directed by her sister (Georgia of Broods) and Matt Clampitt, Oliv runs free on her own terms, ripping down the sand on a quad bike, pink puffed sleeves and all.

After already playing to a sold out home crowd in Nelson, Oliv is ready to spread her glow across the country with plans to tour New Zealand and beyond, once restrictions finally open their doors. With a collection of new singles sparkling on the horizon, make sure to keep your eyes on Oliv - she won't be New Zealand's best kept secret for much longer.
