'Imprint' from Fanclub is a beautifully flowing song with appealing vocals and a finely arranged musical back drop. With their music aptly described as Punkgaze, Blaire give us 'Mimer' a distinct and hook filled song that helps explain their musics description. Gothenburg’s Beverly Kills might have created a stir locally, however 'In This Dim Light' might well be bright enough (pun intended) for their music to get noticed far and wide. We have the A side and one of the two B sides from Mystery Art Orchestra's new single as the Berlin based band demonstrate just how good their take on post punk music is!

Fanclub - Imprint.

Fanclub have just shared their new single "Imprint". Fanclub is Mike Lee, Leslie Crunkilton, and Daniel Schmidt from Austin, TX. Mike and Leslie immediately knew they wanted to craft songs driven by their love of all things twee, indie, and dreamy.

What they didn’t expect was that the songs would come out as the most mature and dazzling things they’ve ever worked on. What they also didn’t know was that Fanclub would give us a distinctly new sound that is also so incredibly nostalgic.

On the heels of their debut EP release with already over half a million streams, they want to further craft songs that find hope in the melancholy and bring that same sentiment on the road. With more and more tour dates being announced, hopefully you’ll get to see for yourself.

Blaire - Mimer.

Building a kingdom of textured and multifaceted guitar music—brilliantly labelled as punkgaze, Blaire creates sonics that is both visceral and maligned, maximalist and minimal. Hidden behind an explosion of layered guitars and noise lies subtlety and beauty—something Blaire have come to perfect in their two-year career.

Blaire is proud to release the new single into the world. After turning plenty of heads last year with two astounding tracks, 'Youth' and 'Smiling', Blaire's new track, 'Mimer', is out today via GD FRNDS.

Blaire has never sounded so polished and forward. Their pretence of sweltering punk swashed underneath a shoegaze current remains omnipresent, though embeds itself in a dichotomy of deepened pop movements. Using a synth for the first time in a Blaire track, there was a conscious effort to make a dreamy and otherworldly vibe on 'Mimer'.

Sparked by the passing of a family member, Blaire frontman Ben Stagg constructed a contrast of "efflorescent dreaming" and "ephemeral nightmares" to deal with or distract himself in that time.

"Mimer takes a look at the idea of distance," explains Stagg. "Whether that be a friend who lives far away, someone who's passed, a favourite place, country, anything. It is a reflection on the fact that you can still feel whatever's missing from you in a range of ways, and can be 'mimed' by something else."

Beverly Kills - In This Dim Light.

Beverly Kills are creating an impressive name for themselves as one of Gothenburg’s up and coming bands to watch. Last year saw the band release ‘Fourteen’, ‘Melodrama’ and ‘Dreamless’, gathered great acclaim from both local and international press including being mentioned as one of the “Best Swedish Indie Debuts 2018” by HYMN and being nominated for "Breakthrough of the Year” in the Gaffa Awards. This also saw the band playing Gothenburg music showcase festival Viva Sounds and a side show at this years by:Larm Festival along with shows supporting Agent blå, Moaning(USA- Sub-pop) and Västerbron.

The release of ‘Revellers’ earlier this year came with the announcement of their debut physical release ‘In This Dim Light/Melodrama’ limited edition 7” vinyl through Australian Indie label Hell Beach. ‘Revellers’ received a plethora of editorial support among being added to Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlists, featured in Hype Machines most blogged charts and saw new live dates including taking the stage at this year’s SPOT Festival and shows supporting Terra and Westkust. ‘In This Dim Light’ signifies a new era for Beverly Kills as they join the Welfare Sounds roster, aligning with amazing fellow label artists such as Linn Koch Emmery, Terra and Tyred Eyes which is set to propel the band forward into a future that is looking very bright.

‘In This Dim Light’ may be Beverly Kills most compelling single to date and further encapsulates the bands signature sounds as they suck you in with dreamy and infectious hooks then spit you right back out with raw and thumping energy.The initial tone of the song is set by Alma Westerlund’s beautiful vocals that flow effortlessly over melodic, dreamy synths which is then completely augmented as Viggo Mattson and Hampus Höggren lay down a powerful stomping rhythm section that propels the song into full motion.

As the song builds towards its final climax, John Jonsén’s punchy and articulate guitar performance carries the song through sections of tension and release as the band artfully blend raw and energetic sonic landscapes with dreamy lush vocals. Mystery Art Orchestra - Enjoy The Violence / Losing Relation.

Berlin-based Post-Punk / New-Wave band Mystery Art Orchestra released their new EP last Friday. Following six years of work on their debut album “Prismatic Dream” (2018) and several live performances, Mystery Art Orchestra returned to the studio and produced the 7" Vinyl “Enjoy The Violence”.

This cheeky new EP contains three new tracks and comes with an emergence of new darker sounds. Light-minded or not, fragments of sounds are the only form that Mystery Art Orchestra trust. Measured against the east german landscape of their hometowns, its only slightly sentimental.

Hypnotic, disruptive and sometimes strangely familiar, almost as if different musical decades have been torn apart and stitched back together in unexpected ways.

Honey Moon - Swanes - Le Boom & Æ MAK

Honey Moon have released 'IF I Could Only Dream' a fresh and vibrant jangle pop song that exudes classic pop vibes from decades ago. Toronto duo Swanes have created a lush, rhythmic and dreamy electronic piece in the form of 'Dreams Of Iceland'. Irish electronic-pop duo, Le Boom have teamed up with Æ MAK to share 'Dancing Bug' accompanied now with a fabulous video, adding a little extra to this upbeat song. 

Honey Moon - If I Could Only Dream.

London jangle-pop crooners Honey Moon stomp into 2019 with new single If I Could Only Dream, teaming up once more with Manchester label Heist or Hit  (Her’s, Pizzagirl, Baywaves, Guest Singer). It’s the first jangly slice of sound the quintet have delivered since last year’s acclaimed Four More From… EP, which drew fans from tastemaker tomes DIY and DORK magazine to BBC 6 Music and legendary cratedigger Elton John.

Distilling their trademark doo-wop sound to first principles on the new single, Honey Moon capture snatched moments of 50s/60s jukebox culture. Bright, plucky 50’s sounding guitars, lively baselines and poppy drums carry the song as a confident and direct strut through the ballroom, whilst vocalist Jack Slater Chandler serenades with a commanding quiver.

As Jack posits: “'If I Could Only Dream' is about change, transition and wishful thinking. It's about trying to right some wrongs. Sounds quite corny for someone in their mid-twenties but it was written during a cycle of change in my life that needed documenting in some way, and ended up in a sweet ditty. A sunny little pop song - one for the tried and tested mooner.”

The months between the last release and this return have been busy for the lovelorn boys. Support tours with label mates Her’s as well as fellow retro dreamers FUR have kept them on the road, before burying their heads in mixing desks and vintage equipment at The Nave studio in Leeds, with producer Alex Greaves (Working Men’s Club, The Orielles, Heavy Lungs).

The 5-piece will be performing their biggest headline show to date at The Sebright Arms in London on April 26th,  with an appearance at Are You Listening? festival also in the calendar.

Swanes - Dreams of Iceland.

Radio 1-tipped Toronto duo, Swanes, comprising of brothers Michael and Stefan Bildy, are today sharing their new single, ‘Dreams Of Iceland’. The lucid new cut follows previous releases on French/Japanese label, Kitsuné (Parcels, Hot Chip, Simian Mobile Disco) and will be supported with a date as part of Canadian Music Week where they will perform at The Garrison, Toronto on May 7, 2019.

With production that is coloured by rich atmospherics and vibrant idiosyncrasies, ‘Dreams Of Iceland’ is another expansive step forward for the pair. Drawing on ancient Nordic song forms, melodies, and recorded folklore, ‘Dreams of Iceland’ cuts a fine curve between icy electronic soundscapes and tropical pop, looking to explore various tropes of relationships through sultry vocal harmonies and an earworm chorus hook.

Le Boom & Æ MAK - Dancing Bug.

Irish electronic-pop duo, Le Boom, comprising of Christy Leech and Aimie Mallon, and fellow Dubliner Æ MAK (Aoife McCann) are now sharing the video for their new BBC Radio 1-supported collaborative single, ‘Dancing Bug’. The new music is shared alongside news of Le Boom’s largest headline to-date, a stop at the 1250-capacity Olympia, Dublin on October 11, 2019 - tickets available here. The new date will follow a summer of festival touring and a brief May run, taking in stops at Thousand Island, London on May 3, 2019 and further dates at Live At Leeds and Hit The North - all dates below.

Following the impeccably choreographed ‘Just Want To’, the compelling melodies of ‘Dancing Bug’ - which visually finds Leech, Mallon and McCann gliding through the streets of Stoneybatter, Dublin City - is the latest cut from the forthcoming EP, ‘All Of My Highs’, set for release May 3, 2019. “‘Dancing Bug’ is about falling into your bedroom after a bad day and dancing like fire to your favourite song; to escape the stuff you just had to deal with,” says McCann. “That energy taking you off into the other world that you're visualising as you dance.”

Speaking about the musical coming together, McCann continues: “I’d always loved Le Boom's live shows - myself and my mates dancing ourselves into the ground, high energy and love. Myself and Christy met at The Great Escape last year and got on like a house on fire. We were both like 'I like your music - I like your music, cool'. 2018 signposted an exciting milestone for Le Boom, it was a year that found the pair performing across some of Europe’s largest festivals, including Primavera, Longitude, Body & Soul and Electric Picnic, whilst also taking their eccentric live show to Reykjavik, New York and Bilbao. JYLDA - Josh Del - Todd Warner Moore - Charlie Hole - Portland

'Reeled' from JYLDA is dreamy, melodic and her vocals are alluring, add in the vibrant beats and the song is indeed extremely catchy. Josh Del is another artist where the vocals are a key ingredient, their natural Americana instinct coming to the fore on 'Rolling Stone' a timeless country piece. Todd Warner Moore has just released 'Love & Change' an album comprising of thirteen songs, where his musical talents explore a variety of genres, and with excellent production this is a fabulous collection of music. Charlie Hole latest song 'All The Roads To Heaven' is just beautiful, the singer/song writer brims with feeling and the melodic hooks do the rest. Expansive, atmospheric and dreamily seductive 'Expectations' by Portland is a mixture of emotion, calmness and power, now there's a combination.

JYLDA - Reeled.

JYLDA is Italian-German Gianna Gehlhar's musical alter ego. Now based in London after a stint in Berlin, she releases her debut TWITCH EP, produced with Beni Giles (Otzeki, James, Marcus Foster).

JYLDA's voice finds a playful connection with sensuality and rhythm comparable with Robyn, Jessy Lanza or Little Dragon. It all revolves around the pop song, but with a darkness reminiscent of St. Vincent, Grimes and Lykke Li. JYLDA's operatic roots give her voice a unique captivating siren-like intensity, drawing you into her enchanting world.

JYLDA states: "Twitch gives an insight into different parts of my personality. The songs are like short stories about melancholy, dance, playfulness and sensuality. In all of them I’m looking for the connection between body and mind and the hidden irony of every tale.“

Twitch is the first release from JYLDA since moving to London last year. During that time she's been writing and collaborating with a series of exciting artists including Blakey, Ah!Kosmos, Hugh, Salt Ashes, Pillars and Kirk Spencer, the results of which will be seen in future releases in 2019 following her debut EP coming out.

Josh Del - Rolling Stone.

Josh Del is a singer/songwriter from the Coachella Valley. He grew up escaping the desert heat by playing guitar and writing songs in studios.

His gravely voice and bluesy playing have earned him comparisons to some of the greats in Americana history.

Rolling Stone is a stirring, soulful roots-rock ballad built around his dusty vocals, rich keyboards, and an earthy, muscular arrangement.

And in just three minutes, it does the near-impossible: Makes you put Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan, Mick, Keef, Otis Blackwell, The Who and the rest out of your mind for three minutes. Which begs the question: How does it feel, Josh?

Todd Warner Moore - Love and Change (Album).

We have a new album from pop/folk singer-songwriter Todd Warner Moore entitled 'Love & Change'. Even though Todd's mainstay is along the lines of acoustic driven songs, he has a knack for capturing different sounds and eras of Americana and Folk music reminiscent of greats such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young and especially the Irish overtones of Van Morrison.  Todd also releases a steady flow of instrumental fare, reaching into ambient and cinematic territory. "Love & Change" is the sound of a perceptive, lyrically gifted artist perfecting his craft.

Originally from Kansas City, Kansas, U.S.A., Todd Warner Moore has penned a diverse catalogue of music over time. His newest album contains dashes of Folk, Americana, 70s Singer/Songwriter, Classical, Jazz, and Gipsy music.

In the 90s, Todd co-wrote songs and toured with Acoustic Juice through the American Midwest, delivering ery songs to students in college towns. Later, in Budapest, Hungary, he performed solo melodies in tea houses, where his expat band Tea Thieves would come to life. Over several years, the energetic band would release three albums. Before leaving Hungary, he nished his album titled Long Days. Todd has lived on Lamma Island in Hong Kong for the last eight years, where he plays at small festivals and pubs.

Spark was his second full-length album in 2018. Now Todd is back with another full-length release "Love & Change", which finds him further honing his songwriting craft.

Charlie Hole - All The Roads To Heaven.

Born and raised in the coastal town of Bournemouth, UK, Charlie Hole’s story began when he heard Damien Rice’s ‘O’ at the tender age of 14. From that first listen, his desire to reach the same emotional depths became clear; realising his ability to create emotive and fearless tracks, learning and evolving throughout.

After a chance meeting with the well-respected guitarist and producer, Jim Cregan (Rod Stewart, Katie Melua, Family), the pair began working closely together, with Jim mentoring Charlie and teaching him about the world of songwriting while always pushing him to develop his own style and sound.

Finding comfort in beautifully crafted words over effortless melodies, Charlie Hole is one of the most exciting young singer-songwriters around.

Coined by Rod Stewart as an emerging talent with a gift for writing ‘beautiful songs’, Charlie has always been destined for great things. With a brave and honest voice, tackling relatable subject matters for all audiences, Charlie Hole shares his personal stories of broken dreams and lost love in the pursuit of happiness through his powerful and commanding songwriting.

With inspirations ranging from legends such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits, Charlie has been writing music and touring his songs across the UK and Europe for over 10 years, playing well over 1000 gigs, and has supported notable artists such as Billy Ocean and Steve Harley. Charlie has also taken his live shows to an intimate level, doing a Living Room Tour of fans houses to only a handful of guests. The tour was close to his heart as he is heavily involved with Sofar Sounds, after bringing the monthly events to his hometown of Bournemouth.

Portland - Expectations.

Finalists in Belgian’s magazine Humo’s Rock Rally 2016 and winners of broadcaster Studio Brussel’s ‘De Nieuwe Lichting’ 2018. Their packed festival summer and completely sold out club tour took them all over Belgium in 2018. Portland creates dreamy, everlasting storytelling songs.

The band’s debut single ‘Pouring Rain’ gained more than a million streams on Spotify, under their own management. Their subtle rework (upon request of Studio Brussel) of alt-J’s ‘Matilda’ gained popularity faster than expected and was released as a successful second single.

Their rise in popularity didn’t go unnoticed and last summer Portland proudly teamed up with [PIAS]. The first result of this partnership was ‘Lucky Clover’, an emotional, dreamy and subtle piece of harmonic prose, whose greatest strength is the harmonies and interaction between front duo Jente Pironet and Sarah Pepels. The single got picked up on radio in Flanders, club shows sold out quickly and an invitation to play this year’s Rock Werchter and Pukkelpop festivals followed.

Gearing up to release their debut full length album after the summer, Portland now proudly presents their new single ‘Expectations’. An epic and cathartic love song using lush strings, chimes, timpani, electronics and electric guitars to counter Jente and Sarah’s remarkable voices. “‘Expectations' is about high hopes, deep disappointments and very abstract interactions between attractions, rejections, doubts and certainties,” Jente explains. It’s a bold move and a step up from their previous output, still retaining the same otherworldly, dreamlike quality.

GURU - Wy - Kris Kelly - Silent Forum

'Fixation' from GURU is a formidable punk rocker, the vocals are fierce and not to be left behind, the band are equally forceful. We have already featured a couple of gorgeous songs from Wy's forthcoming album and the final teaser 'Swedish Summer' ups our anticipation even more! We are a little late sharing Kris Kelly's music video for 'Birthplace' but this is such a wonderful song, it simply has to be featured. Cardiff (Wales) based Silent Forum's third single 'Safety In Numbers' is imaginative and not easy to categorise, so we will file under creative post punk, indie something.

GURU - Fixation.

Brighton’s endless production line continues to reinforce their status as one of the UK’s finest indie hotbeds and in punk sensations GURU they’ve certainly found another to add to the growing list.

Bursting out of the blocks with their rollicking third instalment Fixation, the rising quartet demonstrate all the makings of a band ready to make a name for themselves with their raucous live shows, having torn up stages throughout the UK on their recent sold-out tour alongside fellow risers Lady Bird.

Switching out the distortion driven guitars in favour of Dick Dale inspired licks and a clearly discernible chorus, their latest effort possesses an all-round groove, dealing with irreconcilable differences between people as part of a natural human condition, and follows encouraging early comparisons to the likes of Shame and Fat White Family.

Detailing their upcoming release, front man Tommy Cherrill explained: “Lyrically I’ve focused on the irreconcilable nature of some relationships I’ve failed to repair from earlier years of my life. I realised I wasn’t alone in having these botched relationships and so began writing the verses from the third person as an imagined narrator of others who’ve fallen out. Sometimes things just don’t work out and I’m not making a judgement call on whether that’s a good thing or not, we just wanted to write a blood number one for the Billboard Hot 100, ha”!

Wy - Swedish Summer.

Ahead of the release of their highly anticipated second album 'Softie', Swedish duo Wy have today shared the final taster of the new record; the melodic, captivating and haunting 'Swedish Summer'. The song was the first the band wrote for the LP, which is due for release in one week via Hybris and Beatnik. Accompanied by another stunning video, directed by the band's singer Ebba.

On the meaning behind the song, Ebba explains: "Swedish Summer is about having too high expectations on yourself. It was actually one of the first songs we wrote for the album. We were growing tired of the tempo of our debut album and this track really helped us break away from it and have more fun with our songwriting. The name "Swedish Summer" was just a working title because we wrote it during the summer last year, but we kept it because it fit the sound so well. It's a funny name, because the lyrics are kind of dark."

The band's earnest eleven track sophomore album includes the previously released, BBC 6Music supported singles 'Pavements', 'Softie' and 'Tired II'. It follows their debut LP 'Okay', which became something of an underground sensation and garnered the highest praise with comparisons to Slowdive, Cigarettes After Sex and Mazzy Star. The new record is set to further cement their position as one of the most exciting bands around right now.

The forthcoming album is very much a statement on the turbulence of human existence, written from Ebba's experience of being bipolar. With their clarity in emotion and unapologetic use of lyrics, it's an important record in more ways than one. She explains, "'Softie' is an attempt at proving there is more than one way of being a functioning human being. The album is about coping, growing out of your fears, learning how to distance yourself from your anxieties and the ups and downs that comes with being bipolar. 'Softie' is ultimately about releasing the pressure from yourself and that's what we have been doing in the process of writing these songs. We ended up with a record that was turbulent, back and forth and non-conforming. And we love that, because it feels very 'us' and we really wanted our second album to hit you in the face rather than rock you to sleep."

Kris Kelly - Birthplace.

Kris Kelly is pleased to share the song and video for his newest single “Birthplace.” Throughout the song, Kris explores the idea and concept of one’s birthplace, and what that means on a deeper, wider scope, provoking the listener to examine and dissect their own genesis.  

The accompanying video, executively produced by the widely-recognized and acclaimed Alma Har’el, and directed by Adi Halfin (Radiohead/Batsheva Dance Company), is a gorgeous counterpart to the track.  

“For the ‘Birthplace’ video, I explained to director Adi Halfin what the song meant to me, and she came up with this beautiful concept. The video unfolds like a dream. There is me, the narrator, in a room, away from the outside world, juxtaposed by these different characters on the exterior, each one very different from the other, in different emotional states, relating to their environment in different ways. There is struggle, peace, conflict, harmony. And there is definitely an element of surrealism and there is not a linear storyline or sense of time. It’s a dream. And like in a dream, to me anyway, the characters all represent different pieces of the main character. I ended up relating to each character in my own personal way, and I think the viewer will have their own experience as well,” explains Kris. “Birthplace” will appear on Kris’s new record Runaways, due out Summer 2019.

Silent Forum - Safety in Numbers.

‘Safety in Numbers’ is the third single released by the Cardiff based Post-Punk / New Wave four piece Silent Forum on Libertino. Following on from the swaggering, off-kilter, infectious pop energy of ‘How I Faked The Moon Landing’ and ‘Robot’, ‘Safety in Numbers’ explores a far more reflective musical landscape. This is a song that “expresses the importance of looking after your friends......that time will forget us, but that our relationships are the most meaningful thing we can achieve in life.”

Yet again Silent Forum delivers a song very much on their terms, a song that resonates with kindness and a musicality that captures your heart.

Performing under the name Silent Forum since late 2015, the four-piece deemed Wales' most promising band blends shadowy Post Punk with uplifting, inspiring New Wave. They move unpredictably from serious and direct to playful and overblown.  Since they signed to Libertino records their sound has taken an ambitious turn, gathering praise for epic singles like 'How I Faked the Moon Landing' and 'Robot'. They have an eagerly awaited debut album set for release later this year.

Zoe and Cloyd - Sandtimer - Thin Lear

We have some splendid and totally natural roots music from Zoe and Cloyd, the musicianship is just right and the dual vocals and live feel to the song adds even more character. Sandtimer have just shared 'Dormant' along with a fine video, their indie folk is outstanding and the vocals are wonderful on this addictive song. 'Death In A Field' from Thin Lear (songwriter/producer Matt Longo) is a beautiful piece, where his vocals are just so engaging and the musical arrangement is seemingly pristine.

Zoe and Cloyd - Looking Out For You And Me.

Roots duo Zoe & Cloyd have released a video for their latest single, “Looking Out For You And Me,” a song that illustrates today's issues of change and how it affects us. It warns against allowing self-interest and short-term gain to take precedence over the well-being of future generations.

Husband and wife artists Zoe (Natalya Weinstein) and Cloyd (John Miller) blend their long-crafted folk harmonies with fellow bandmates Kevin Kehrberg on bass and Bennett Sullivan on banjo. The tight musicianship, great flatpicking and impassioned message shows Zoe & Cloyd's ability to play hard-driving, traditional Bluegrass with a message modernized for the times.

The song was written by Miller, who says, "'Looking Out For You And Me' asks us to look critically at the ones making decisions related to our collective well-being and that of future generations."

Zoe & Cloyd spring from deep roots in American music. Founding members of the acclaimed Americana trio, Red June, and long-time veterans of the Asheville, NC music scene, Natalya Zoe Weinstein and John Cloyd Miller released their second full-length album, Eyes Brand New, in spring of 2017. Highlighting their emotive songwriting and signature harmonies, this album showcased the breadth of their collective musical spirit, seamlessly combining original folk, country, old-time and bluegrass with sincerity and zeal. Zoe & Cloyd’s debut recording, Equinox (2015), was met with high acclaim and the pair has continued to gain momentum with a 1st place win at the prestigious FreshGrass Festival Duo Contest along with performances at MerleFest, Music City Roots and more.

Sandtimer - Dormant.

Dormant follows on from a string of laid-back indie folk singles that Sandtimer have published over the last year, but moves into deeper, darker territory with dense percussion, haunting vocals and spiky acoustic guitar.

An indie folk band might be considered an unlikely outfit for Robert Sword, a classically trained pianist, and Simon Thomas, an Oceanography graduate, to end up in. However, these things can happen in unusual ways. Sandtimer create music that often centres around the passage of time, including themes of reflection, escapism and hope.

Their recordings have been featured on a number of national radio shows in the UK, as well as several prominent blogs and playlists. Now operating as a full band, with Rachel Thomas on bass and vocals, and Alex Jackson on percussion, they have performed on the UK acoustic circuit frequently, as well as touring western Canada and northern continental Europe.

Thin Lear - Death in a Field.

Inspired by the passing of a loved one, Thin Lear’s latest single Death In A Field is a complex story about death and rebirth. As per artist’s words: Initially, I just had the opening line of the song: “I’ll survive as a child/All hungry and wild/Life overwhelming is life at the start.” I just really liked the concept of someone nearing the end of their life, and thinking about being reborn, being a baby again, and looking forward to the tremendousness of experiencing life for the first time. Someone at the end of existence feeling the tug of something new, and terrifying, and potentially beautiful. And then the choruses came out of that. Waking in the morning, or “drowning in an evening of lovely black sky,” indicate a kind of serenity in being swallowed up by eternity, and finding some sort of comfort in that.

When I started writing the song, I had recently watched someone I love pass away in a brief, but organic way, and there were moments in their process of dying that seemed to bring revelations to them. The character in the song is of my own invention though. This character isn’t perfect, and is well aware of that, and is simply being honest about what they’ll miss the most, and what they’re looking forward to. And it isn’t always flattering, but it’s true to the character.

The song aims to connect the listener to a feeling or a memory of something sad or wonderful from years ago, maybe something they haven’t thought about in a while…a person or a moment. Songs I love really do that for me. Sometimes it’s hard for me to know how I’m actually feeling, so music allows me to dig past any confusion, and really uncover pieces of who I am and what brings me emotion. So, yeah, I hope the song opens a heavy door in someone’s mind - Thin Lear.

Thin Lear, the project of Queens-based songwriter/producer Matt Longo, evokes the restless expansiveness of 70’s-era studio obsessives. Pulling influence from the insular worlds of Astral Weeks, Tim Buckley, and Shuggie Otis, Thin Lear finds the middle ground between the spontaneous electricity of a live room and the pristine meticulousness of careful, deliberate production. With sweetly plaintive vocals, often compared to Harry Nilsson and Cat Power, melodies hover over orchestral flourishes, gleamingly processed guitars, and ethereal organs and pedal steel, all backed by the kinetic sway and thump of a jazz combo. Songs careen from ornately warm ballads, to psychedelically-tinged folk, to propulsive grooves, with rushes of color and lush walls of sound.

Talkboy - Jenn Vix - Nathan & Jessie - Jacko Hooper

Talkboy return for a fourth time on Beehive Candy, this time with 'Wasting Time' another gorgeous indie pop (with a touch of rock) song, firing melodic hooks in all directions! We featured Jenn Vix a couple of times in 2017 and she is back with a new E.P '6' of which we can share the video for 'Ride' the first song in the collection and a good indicator of the quality of her highly engaging electro pop. We have two wonderful songs from Nathan & Jessie whose mixing of jazz, folk, country and more is simply incredible, expect up-skilled talent, you won't be disappointed. First featured here in November last year Jacko Hooper is back with a video for 'Sidelines' and for a change we have added some reviews from others, equally impressed by his material and vocal ability.

Talkboy - Wasting Time.

Taking things up a notch with sparkling new anthem Wasting Time, Leeds sextet Talkboy reaffirm their budding status as one of Yorkshire’s most exciting indie prospects ahead of their debut EP release this summer.

Joining forces with Leeds label Come Play With Me and LAB Records, the band’s fourth single features a glittering array of melting harmonies nestled within their trademark euphoric walls of noise, qualities that have already attracted widespread acclaim from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Dork and Clash over the last twelve months.

With the underlying influences of contemporaries Alvvays, The Big Moon and Sunflower Bean evident within their own unique style, the fledgling six-piece have so far ticked off supports alongside Our Girl, Another Sky and Bully, with a growing number of festival appearances (Blue Dot, Live At Leeds, Y Not, Long Divison) slated for the summer months where their soaring live reputation strongly comes to the fore.

Speaking ahead of their fourth release, Talkboy revealed: “It’s the catch-22 situation we often tend to find ourselves in – that we should enjoy ourselves as much as we can whilst we’re young, but at the same time, there is an over-riding feeing that you are wasting your time and you have the future to consider. Jenn Vix - Ride.

Jenn Vix's brand new EP 6 is due out on May 3rd via Umbrella Music Co.

6 is a really fun journey through the electropop genre, featuring slower and chiller tracks such as “The Mask of Charon," as well as more bombastic dance jams such as “Rover," which is my personal favorite track, it's such a banger. There's also the instrumental closer, "Valentine," which is really unique and helps show how talented Jenn is at producing.

Jenn also has a massive, personal, and complicated yet inspiring life story that I couldn't possibly do justice in this email. She was homeless in NYC from 14-17, shes a domestic violence/sexual assault survivor, she had a near death experience due to emergency rooms denying her care.

These are subjects that Jenn has written about before as well, some of them have even inspired songs on the EP, and they are topics Jenn is hoping to talk about so she can share her experiences and potentially help others going through similar situations.

Nathan & Jessie - You're The Star / A History On Lost Art.

The music of SoCal duo Nathan and Jessie is as unique as the two individuals who create it, brimming with eclecticism, spontaneity and timeless charisma. They swing hard and serenade gently, singing fluidly in 3 languages, oscillating from bittersweet jazz folk to country blues without missing a beat.

Nathan & Jessie are chronic world travelers, drawing inspiration from all they’ve encounter on their wayfaring journey. They have played in dive bars around the California desert, in the streets of New Orleans, on the subways of NYC, and listening rooms rooms and performing arts centers across the globe including Mexico City and Paris. Along the way, they’ve picked up awards for ‘Best Blues’ and ‘Best Country’ Song at the Temecula Valley Music Awards, recorded live sessions for Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Nashville’s WMOT Roots Radio, and played alongside folk luminaries like Handmade Moments and Dustbowl Revival.

Their sophomore release, You’re the Star, is the follow-up to their incredibly self-assured 2018 debut, That’ll Never Be Me. Many of the songs on the new LP were crafted late at night while on tour. Tired and cold, often with nowhere to go, fingerpicking and singing to a new city, Nathan & Jessie comforted each other with their music. That warmth and sense of well-being can be felt in the resulting recordings. It’s if Django Reinhardt and Peggy Lee decided to pull their material from the Great American Songbook - it’s chock full of style, yet there is little pretense with these two. An all female line up today on Beehive Candy starting with Hannah Rosa and 'Fire,' a song that sees her captivating indie pop showcased with style and quality. The merging of jazz and folk music not only works, it's somewhat breathtaking on Alex Spencer's new album 'Shine' which you can stream in full below. Hannah Rosa - Fire.

Capturing hearts and commanding attention, Brisbane's indie-pop darling Hannah Rosa is back and better than ever with dreamy new single, 'Fire'.

Following up highly praised release 'Hollow', 'Fire' turns up the heat, combining heavenly melodies with a string of soaring synth and guitar lines. With production from  Tristan Hoogland (Golden Vessel, Woodes) and additional production flourishes by Jarryd Shuker (Art of Sleeping, Wyatt), Hannah Rosa's latest is more refined than ever, and nothing short of indie bliss.

Contrasting the upbeat soundscape beneath, lyrically Hannah embellishes on her struggles with self-judgement in the modern age. Alex Spencer - Shine (album).

Having been away from the active music scene for several years while raising her 4 children, Alex Spencer has returned with a compelling new album, Shine. Teaming up with the stellar Berlin jazz trio of Ben Lehmann (double bass), Martial Frenze (drums) and Paul Engelmann (alto saxophone), Spencer has produced work of change and transformation.

The songs explore juxtapositions between youth and aging, children and parents, technology and humanity – all underpinned by the group’s steady rhythms and mellow tones. Part feel-good jazz, part sophisticated folk, this album stretches its arms wide and brings its themes together around a kitchen table where everyone is welcome.

Growing up in a musical family amongst both the green hills of western England and the forests of southern Germany, Alex Spencer moved to the big city of Berlin after her studies in Philosophy in the summer of 2000.

Between her children and working as a teacher, she has also managed to keep her life and identity as an artist alive, releasing her first album, ‘Underwater’ in 2010 and following it up with ‘Shine’ in 2019. When she's not playing live on the Berlin singer-songwriter gig circuit, Alex can be found walking her dog through Görlitzer Park in her Kreuzberg neighbourhood.

Lauran Hibberd - Hoochie.

Humorous, infectious and charismatic in equal measure, Isle Of Wight’s rising sensation Lauran Hibberd thrives once more with anthemic single Hoochie, firmly solidifying her growing status within the UK’s emerging indie elite.

Fresh from a widely acclaimed support UK/EU tour alongside US indie rockers Hippo Campus, the singer-songwriter’s care-free new offering arrives ahead of her biggest headline shows to date, festival appearances including Live At Leeds and Hit The North and a slot on the BBC Introducing stage at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Alejandra O'Leary - Wires.

There are not many women in rock n’ roll music, let alone women equally confident in pop or rock, in English or Spanish. Alejandra O’Leary was born to a Colombian mother and Irish father and her birth name seemed to check those boxes appropriately. Having a different sounding name and being a woman of color both challenged and shaped her as she grew up listening to crashing waves and Beatles records. Specifically, growing up in Portland, Maine instilled feelings of being both a native and an outsider. “I’ve always been at home with messiness, big emotions and uncertainty,” Alejandra reflects. “I guess that’s why I like rock n roll.”

After moving to Santiago, Chile at age seventeen, Alejandra became infatuated with the idea of creating music and followed her muse across the world for a decade, releasing four albums of original songs, sharing the stage with Guster and Asobi Seksu, and drawing positive nods from outlets like No Depression, PopMatters and Magnet. The sound Alejandra cultivated during this time was an expansive mix of raw rock theatrics, anthemic Top 40 pop melodies, and soulful retro flourishes.

In 2016, Alejandra returned home with her newborn baby to Portland with the intention to record a new album. Never one to follow cookie cutter formulas, she rounded up a group of hand-picked local musicians and sent them demos of her new songs. No other instructions were given, and when they all showed up in the studio, it was made clear that they were going to improvise the song’s final arrangement. Alejandra refers to the band as a pop-up project, asserting “This improvisatory spirit keeps things fresh and thrilling. I find it to be the most enchanting way to create music.”

The resulting recordings have a live-wire feeling to them which reflects their on-the-spot creation. From the twangy 90’s Americana of “Undone” to the shoegazey twilight-rock of “Wires,” EVEREST is packed with a variety of distinctive ‘retronuevo’ sensibilities, yet it’s all indicative of its creators spunky and soulful spirit.

Whispering Sons - Irina Atanasiu - Pete Gardiner

Whispering Sons power up on 'Hollow' a splendid rocker of a song, where the haunting vocals and Gothic vibes are resplendent. I have to say I am very impressed with Irina Atanasiu's two songs shared below, forget how young she is, this is gorgeous material, that's superbly produced. It was back in 2016 that we featured Pete Gardiner (I genuinely thought it was just a few months back - time flies) anyhow he is back with 'Dangerous People' and it's a rather good song, to say the least.

Whispering Sons - Hollow.

With Whispering Sons’ debut album – Image – the Brussels-based band with Limburg roots hit one out of the park. Their first major release since the EP Endless Party (2015) took fans and critics by storm, which was soon also to be reflected in the Belgian Ultratop charts.

The album came in at number six in the album top 100, and the single ‘Alone’ was voted first place by listeners for the hit list ‘De Afrekening’ [The Countdown] on Studio Brussel for five consecutive weeks and ‘Vox’ on Radio 1 for two weeks. On their own home turf in Belgium, there’s hardly a single venue that isn't obliged to hang a ‘sold out’ sign out on the front door. On stage Whispering Sons wows the crowd every time – that they’ve been named ‘the Best Belgian Band now’ is no fluke.

“This dead land…this mad land…Is this the way the world ends?” singer Fenne Kuppens’ dark, hypnotizing voice never sounded as apocalyptic as in the impressive and devastating single ‘Hollow’. The end-of-days feeling is illustrated in the remarkable video for the track. No demonic four horseman, no bloodthirsty robots or aliens to exterminate humanity, but a serene and peaceful kind of doom… We see youngsters assemble at the tree of life in a desolate desert-like setting. Their trancelike gaze aimed high at the sky that’s about to fall… Death from above… Parting ways together… determined, undaunted, unconcerned… “I’ve been afraid too long, I’ve been afraid too long...”

Irina Atanasiu - When I Was Young / A Sky of Gray.

Irina Atanasiu is an 18 year old singer-songwriter who is currently based in Brussels, Belgium. She has written over 100 original songs up to date, and seems to effortlessly be able to produce a catchy melody and relatable, thoughtful lyrics to go along with it. Irina loves combining elements of popular music with indie-rock in her songs.  Her music has previously been described as “bubbly pop-rock”, “retro alternative rock” or “teen pop-rock”. Some artists that inspired Irina Atanasiu and influenced her sound are Tyler Joseph and Taylor Swift.

Her debut single “When I Was Young” received a great amount of praise since it was released in November 2018. Irina wrote this song in 20 minutes, while coping with the aftermath of a broken heart. In her debut single, she sings about feelings of betrayal and unexpected heartbreak, from a person she loved very deeply. Moreover, she also explores feelings of nostalgia, and a longing for innocence and a simpler time. Her song brought Irina Atanasiu to 1st place for alternative music in her city on ReverbNation and 2nd place nationally.

On the 15th of April 2019, her second single “A Sky of Gray” was released. This song explores a darker side of Irina’s life. “This song is very different yet similar to “When I Was Young””, she says. “It explores some struggles I have had throughout my adolescence coping with anxiety and depression and how these emotions were essentially linked to my past experiences and relationships. I’ve had a number of negative experiences in my romantic and personal life, and these are explored in great depth in my music.” says Irina.

Irina Atanasiu aims to release an EP featuring 5 songs in the summer of 2019. “Every song in my EP tells a different story, and shows a different part of who I am. I hope that by talking about my experiences and thoughts I can inspire other people and raise awareness about different topics which are very important to me such as mental illness, and bullying. That’s the reason I got into music, after all, to inspire others and give a voice to the underdog” she says.

Pete Gardiner - Dangerous People.

Pete Gardiner is a rarity, a true songsmith, a poet who sets his stories to music. Pete writes about doomed, alcohol fuelled love affairs, our celebrity obsessed culture, vanity, greed, violence and lust with a style and passion inspired by his songwriting heroes Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Bruce Springsteen.

Growing up in Northern Ireland in the 90’s, there was no shortage of subject matter for Pete’s unique ability with words. New single Dangerous People (coming out May 17th) interprets the madness depicted in world news headlines into three minutes of dramatic Americana influenced folk storytelling.

Pete goes on to say that, “The song follows a man driven to the brink of madness by our current political climate coupled with his own inner turmoil and anxiety. He wants some company and he does his best to hide his darker personality traits from the woman he desires. However, with each passing chorus, his true nature becomes more evident.

I wanted to write something in the style of Leonard Cohen's “Everybody Knows” where the lyrics somehow say everything about where we are in the world without being specific about anything.”

His early demos, which gained support from local BBC radio, caught the attention of a major UK radio group, who then tipped off a record label, which resulted in Pete signing his first recording contract. Pete’s debut album, recorded with award winning Irish producer Tommy McLaughlin (The Villagers), earned great reviews and the first single ‘Idols’ was featured in ‘Record of the Day’. The follow up, All These Things, was picked up by BBC Radio 2 by presenter Janice Long. Pete plays a live show to celebrate the single’s launch on May 16th at The Bedford, Balham, London.

The Last Bees - Another Sky - Sofia - Vilde

The self titled E.P. from The Last Bees comprises of six unashamedly Beatles influenced songs, and what's more each one is a delight to listen to. A couple of days after the music video for 'The Cracks' was put out and Another Sky are already well into the thousands of views, this is a band getting considerable attention for all the right reasons. From Finland we have Sofia and 'Heavy' the title track from her E.P due next week, this smooth and engaging song bodes well for what's to follow. 'Sardines' from Vilde is just so likable, the video adding even more, if this is weird pop, then I am all for plenty of weird pop.

The Last Bees - The Last Bees (E.P).

Countless bands have cited the Beatles as inspiration, but few have recaptured their early sound with the same attention to detail as The Last Bees.

Milwaukee-based Ian Ash grew up soaking up the sounds of Summerfest every year and it wasn’t long before he was a fixture in bands that were grabbing supporting slots in the festival. Ash was exposed to a great deal of excellent live music as he began formulating his own ideas about his vocation. Seeing modern day artists like Greta Van Fleet capturing the sound of 70’s Led Zeppelin and Pokey LaFarge making an impact with pre-1950’s ragtime, he sensed the undeniable scent of nostalgia in the air and decided to go full throttle on his love for early Beatles.

With sweet, melodic music becoming scarce, Ash dedicated himself to producing songs that tapped into a kind of youthful vulnerability that has all but vanished. Music that harks back to a time not so different from our current culture; a time when people also needed a positive, uplifting release from the vicissitudes of a world changing so quickly.

He unapologetically crafted a collection of sticky, retro, low-fi pop tunes, which might be considered sacrilege to Beatle fans, if it wasn’t so sincere and well executed.

Another Sky - The Cracks.

Another Sky have unveiled their new single “The Cracks,” the second track taken from their upcoming EP Life Was Coming In Through The Blinds, due for release on June 14th via Fiction/Missing Piece Records. “The Cracks” (video directed by Steve Turvey) follows on from the band’s emotionally impacting previous single “Apple Tree.”

“The Cracks” further reveals the band’s talent and appetite for cultural and social commentary, alongside their soaring cinematic soundscapes. Vocalist Catrin Vincent describes the track as “a response to a Leonard Cohen lyric, “the cracks, that’s how the light gets in”. The song is an ode to our generation, one that is more self-aware and being forced to have the difficult conversations that lead to progress and evolution. It’s inspired by the little girl fined by the council for setting up a lemonade stall, the kids suing the US government for global warming, teenagers like Greta Thunberg. It’s about our generation’s unique position of facing extinction.”

Another Sky was recently named one of NPR Music’s "Favorite Discoveries of SXSW 2019,” and one of Paste’s “15 New British Acts You Need to Know in 2019.” Media and fans alike quickly jumped on board with the band in 2018, with The FADER premiering the video for “Chillers,” and an appearance on Later…with Jools Holland.

Sofia - Heavy.

Following the recent release of her new single ‘Heavy’, hotly-tipped Finnish singer-songwriter Sofia announces her upcoming debut EP, ‘Heavy’, available on all digital platforms on 26thApril.

Born from a collaboration with renowned Finnish producer Matti Pitkänen, the EP clearly shows Sofia’s flair to create both a unique sound and aesthetic for herself, all deeply rooted in personal experience. Explaining what inspired her to write the songs, Sofia says “they are all confessional stories about hope, love and vulnerability. I wanted to be earnest and made the lyrics sound as I was reading from my diary.”

Anticipation has been building steadily on Sofia’s upcoming EP, since she unveiled its first single ‘Heavy’, which has seen support from the likes Nothing but Hope and Passion, Bands of Tomorrow, The Indy Review and Wonky Sensitive, among others. Whilst her first international debut ‘Domino’, a mix between Billie Eilish haunting ballads, Khalid’s pop-inflected R&B and Anne-Marie’s truth-telling, put Sofia on the right path to becoming the next Nordic-pop sensation.

Including the previously released singles‘Underwater’ and ‘Your Arms’- which earned her early support from key Spotify ‘New Music Friday’and key Nordic influencers,as well as heavy rotation from the largest Finnish taste maker radio Yle X - the EP is a well-rounded and authentic body of work, that exemplifies Sofia’s heart-warming approach to music: one that is sure to resonate with listeners on its release.

Vilde - Sardines.

With a proclivity for delivering exhilarating slices of indie-electronica infused with weird pop sensibilities well established, Vilde returns in 2019 with his first cut from a new full length record. New single Sardines retains the Stockholm based, Melbourne raised artist’s singular style – whilst letting a little more light in to a traditionally dark sound. Falling somewhere between Thom Yorke, Tim Hecker and TV on the Radio it’s a great addition to his steadily growing stylish and sophisticated cannon.

As well as leftfield sonics Vilde, AKA Thomas Savage, offers oblique looks at serious themes through his tracks and albums. Sardines falls in line here, offering a take on views towards overfishing: “A friend of mine said to me, ‘You know, there’s a date on it. There’ll be no fish left in the sea come 2048’. It sounded like the kind of comment I’d have an initial predisposition to be sceptical of. However just a little research shows it is a well-supported claim. I’m interested in why this has had such little effect on the consumption trend. We are a species that takes action to preserve an endangered species, however only at the point of its being endangered. We exist within a fog of moral & ethical confusion. It’s fascinating. I articulated this poorly, yet as best I could, in my song, ‘Sardines’. The emotion is there, at least.”

It’s the first preview of Fidget At The Podium, the album Vilde will be releasing in the late summer. He began recording in early 2018 in Stockholm, just before being served a visa denial from the migration agency. Re-locating briefly to Düsseldorf to stay with his brother, he eventually finished the record in Melbourne through the summer. Looking to expand the instrumentation to evolve his sound, he brought in flute, saxophone and for the first time, other people’s voices. “I have had such a solo process for so long now, it’s become quite exhilarating to collaborate with other musicians” explains Savage, revelling in opening up his creativity.

There’s a reason for the hitherto insular approach the Vilde project has taken so far, explained as an overarching theme tackled across the album. “It’s largely about emotions and making sure to communicate with them. Personally I don’t find that social interactions accommodate a headspace where I can do that effectively” starts Thomas, “I get the bulk of that fix, that inner-communication, in yelling from my guts into a microphone, alone in my room. This whole music thing is largely for myself, and I guess the point of releasing this album is that if a listener gains a fraction of that gut-to-fruition emotion that I do in making it, it’ll mean something to them, I hope.”
